Doesn't this mean Jev can be used to drive a car as well?

smusamashah··on People who can't picture anything are rewriting the science of imagination
But if you only remember facts, can someone else pretend to be that person you remember with those facts?
smusamashah··on Coding Is Over. Get over It
I think it should be doable now. Someone might have tried this already. I do know people connecting AI to TVs to cleanup all the bloat automatically and it works. Saw a few posts on twitter.
smusamashah··on Coding Is Over. Get over It
Biggest benefit of all this getting the control of hardware back to consumers. Software has been the soul of the computers which only knowledgeable enough could put into hardware for a long time.

Now (almost) anyone who owns a programmable device also controls it the way they want, as if they actually own it.

I am stretching a bit here but we are almost there now already.

I wish these models start writing super optimal code that can squeeze very last bit of the chips so that we can get rid of Electron and similar bloatware.

smusamashah··on Show HN: Bodily Oddities
No. It's like the skin behind ears is pulled moving ear slightly back. Can't move tips.
smusamashah··on Show HN: Bodily Oddities
I can move my ears. But it's not ears alone, whole scalp skin seems to move and ears get pulled from behind as a result. I learned it from my uncle as kid though by trying to do the same as him.
smusamashah··on Show HN: Bodily Oddities
I know someone who can literally vibrate their eyes sideways. It is very odd to see. You can see his eyes rapidly moving left/right but only a centimeter or less.

Don't know if this has a name.

smusamashah··on Instagram's head says engagement falls by half without the algorithm
This can be true as well because I have been spending lot more time on twitter etc as well.
smusamashah··on Instagram's head says engagement falls by half without the algorithm
I have started to like the algorithms. What I do want is an option to switch to plain old feed which twitter now offers.

Only problem with algorithm is that it is prone to occasional slips where you open a random cat video (or any other bait) and your recommendations start showing that more often, you keep clicking those and before you know it your recommended feed is full of that.

But if you know how to tame the algorithm for only the content you are interested in, it is amazing. I like my twitter, youtube and insta recommendations and have discovered many new creators who I wouldn't have otherwise.

smusamashah··on Mexican student creates an acoustic fire extinguisher to put out fire in seconds
I watch all his videos and they are so easy to understand when to lots of other popular science experiment channels. No high fi stuff, a guy doing experiments with simpler tools available and it's mostly the way he explains things.
smusamashah··on Show HN: Art – draw one stroke, let symmetry complete it
The control panel should have been on the side instead of below the image. I scroll to bottom, mandalla disappears on top in the screen, I click generate, then I scroll back up, repeat.

Pixel watch measures heart rate every second.

Simply adding "Keep answers short, I have ADHD" should work same as this skill.

smusamashah··on Bin Laden's "Letter to America"
First message looks more reasonable to me and think that second option is not sustainable. But being a Muslim I am biased towards what I am taught.
smusamashah··on Atlas: A World Model for Spatial Intelligence
It is so good and probably only become better from here but for now I can see things appearing and disappearing (aka inconsistent hallucinations). See the dominos falling scene, it is easy to see dominos appearing and disappearing into thin air.
smusamashah··on GPU World
Computers were made and automated lots of work, even though it was still us operating those computers and making and running those automations. But eventually computers took over and running so much of the world.

Now LLMs are automating the computers themselves. This is a whole new layer that we never had before, not in this amount or with this much availability. It is not "not foundational".

smusamashah··on OpenShot 4.0 – Open-source video editor

smusamashah··on Show HN: Galaxium, an experimental WebGPU space explorer
Hi, This is awesome to show to kids too as well. I was showing this to my 5 year old that this is earth, sun and moon this is where we are now.

The earth rotation is probably not correct, I am in UK and sun has not set yet, but in Galaxium it is showing night in UK.

smusamashah··on Fingerink – Write with your finger on old Kindle Paperwhite
Made this after seeing a stylus plugin for KOReader which my old kindle paperwhite 4 does not have. But it does have touch so I thought it must be possible to do similar with fingers. Gave Claude reference of 3 such plugins and asked it to make one for me. Latency of drawing is way lower than I was expecting, basically I am not seeing any noticeable delay at all (see the video in repo).

Its vibe coded so I can't tell anything technical about it, but it is working for me and many people on /r/koreader. I can even scribble on a PDF and save those back to PDF itself.

smusamashah··on A Claude Code skill that recovers export-blocked Kindle highlights
Remotely related. I made this KOreader plugin around yesterday using Claude code to take notes (actually just scribbles) on my old Kindle Paperwhite 4 (2018, 10th gen) https://github.com/SMUsamaShah/fingerink.koplugin

I didn't know this was possible at all. I saw some plugins to take notes using Stylus and thought capacitative touch should work too.

smusamashah··on A week of using Codex more than Claude
I have the same experience. I have passed Codex's code over to Claude (Sonnet mostly) to simplify it and it did a so much better job. Codex couldn't comprehend a simpler solution no matter what.

Yup that is very fair. Native speakers can pick out real LLM content much better, which I am not.
