I'm a pretty big DHH fanboy, but this article felt pretty odd in its tone and composure.

There are a lot of options out there. I've used this: https://www.cosumi.net/en/

Darn I was impressed when I pulled off this: https://jawj.github.io/fliptiles/#!/4/52222224222222f222222d.... But now not so much. The key is to work to the edge and out.

smithcoin··on Google Drive files suddenly disappeared
It’s gotten to the point of I have a problem with “site.com”, when I’m searching for a solution I have to omit “site.com” from my results. If I don’t I usually end up in some technical content marketing BS, a useless forum post (bonus points if it is just a wrapper for Discourse), or completely out of date documentation.

It’s impossible to get them to respond to my emails with a paid account. I have an enterprise account with a dedicated rep. To increase the number of seats on your contract you have to request that they do it. I had run out of seats and with a new dev starting it took a few days and emails to get the guy to do anything. I’m try to give you MORE money and it’s like pulling teeth. They’re my only option with Gitlab’s insane price increase.

This looks great I’m going to give it a try!
smithcoin··on Raven – CI/CD Security Analyzer
This looks like a great tool, how would one go about running this periodically for an org?
smithcoin··on Yarn 4.0
Getting it to auth properly with GCP artifact repository in GitHub actions was a bit of a pain. Conflicting documentation between Google, Yarn and GitHub didn’t help.
smithcoin··on The heaviness of maintaining systems
The sad reality for me is that most of my value is in my willingness to do glue work which I find so many others lacking the fortitude to participate in.
smithcoin··on Yarn 4.0
They each generate their own lockfiles that contain the dependency graph so they can’t be used together. They have different utilities in the CLI for example- NPM has npm audit, which yarn doesn’t. They’re mostly the same but you have to keep in mind they have different philosophies in how to manage the dependency graph.
smithcoin··on Yarn 4.0
Getting yarn berry to work was a nightmare in my org. Hopefully this release can actually simplify the toolchain.

smithcoin··on How companies like Amazon and JPMorgan spy on their staff
MDM software only allows to do so much. We use it my company. We can remotely wipe a Mac or reboot it but that pretty much it. I’m not aware of any 3rd party software that can turn on the camera (remember the green light) or capture the screen without the user knowing it’s happening. Checkout Jamf it’s a pretty standard 3rd party tool, whatever they say they can do is what’s possible from a corporate “non-hostile” perspective.
smithcoin··on How companies like Amazon and JPMorgan spy on their staff
If you as a company decide to RTO and it’s an expectation your employees are in fact in the office I don’t see how tracking badge swipes can be considered Orwellian. I draw the line at software installed in employee PCs to grab screens and track keys. I get it’s a slippery slope but tracking attendance doesn’t feel like “surveillance” while the other software does.

smithcoin··on California doubles taxes on guns and ammunition to pay for school security
For the most part, I think firearms purchases are fairly price inelastic; people know what they want, and are either viewing it as an investment or are purchasing it for fear that the government is going to regulate it later.
smithcoin··on California doubles taxes on guns and ammunition to pay for school security
Perhaps a little cynical of me but my first thought was how the timing of this new tax coincides with the upcoming rush of Californians buying regular sized mags again [0].
