smbv··on US ‘Gets Its Ass Handed to It’ in Wargames: Here’s a $24B Fix
Thank you for this. I've been getting progressively more crazy cars and progressively better performing ones.
smbv··on The New York Times uses the dark patterns it derides
This reminded me of the time where I read somewhere (I don't have the source, unfortunately) that the fastest way to cancel the NYT(?) subscription online over the chat was to say "I am going to jail."

It feels like the fiction novel The Circle (by Dave Eggers) was used as a handbook to create a company.

smbv··on SARS-CoV-2 infection induces long-lived bone marrow plasma cells in humans
My guess is that it'd be difficult to figure out what's a tracking URL and what's just a normal parameter.

Or maybe because HN is supposed to be minimalist: you upload something and know that people will see what you uploaded, unmarred by HN's modifications. I'm looking at you, Twitter.

smbv··on Let’s Talk About Hot Tub Streams
> Second, while we have guidelines about sexually suggestive content, being found to be sexy by others is not against our rules, and Twitch will not take enforcement action against women, or anyone on our service, for their perceived attractiveness.

I can't believe that this has to be spelled out.

smbv··on Chrome testing RSS-powered ‘Follow’ button
I actually run my own RSS feed aggregator (FreshRSS) and I can tell you that it's great. Combine that with an iOS app like NetNewsWire, I have hundreds of sites that are synced between my devices. It's actually how I read HN at this point (via hnrss).
smbv··on The Matrix Space Beta
Once this becomes widespread, I can actually start using Matrix as a real Discord / Slack alternative (communities just weren't cutting it, unfortunately).
smbv··on Amazon's Sidewalk Network Is Turned on by Default. Here's How to Turn It Off
For some reason, this site doesn't work with third party JS disabled (it returns a 404).

smbv··on Six Years of Rust
I'd argue that it still can be used for low-level programming (ie bare metal Arduino stuff) so it's more like C. One thing I hate about C was the memory management, and I had segfaults all over the place (but that may be more due to my pathetic C skills than anything else imo).

When I said "It's like C, but not C" I meant that it can be used for the same applications as C but it doesn't have most of the shortcomings of C itself.

smbv··on Six Years of Rust
I got into using Rust fairly recently (after using Go and Python almost exclusively for the past few years) and I just want to say that this is the first time in a while that I've really enjoyed programming.

It's like C, but not C? I love it.

smbv··on M1 Mac takes 4 seconds to open 74kb Word document in Pages
It looks like most of the time is from converting the Microsoft format into something Pages can handle. The Tweet itself is misleading, as we are led to think that it's a plain text file (which I can assure you, takes nearly no time at all).
