slymon99··on The case for banning non-competes
This is entirely different from garden leave (a non-compete period where you remain on payroll but are not working), correct? This seems like a fair version, where if a company thinks their trade secrets are that important (often true in finance), they have to pay you your salary for the period of the non-compete.
slymon99··on Getting to the Product Manager interview stage
I'd recommend prioritizing impact over "duties, interesting projects", especially quantatative impact e.g. "built widget that increased x by y%"

I'd also always include months

slymon99··on Show HN: Floptimal – Preflop ranges reimagined
Nice app. Few questions / comments as someone who dabbles quite a bit w/ GTO play.

What's the nash distance here? Can I assume you are tight enough these results should be the same as piosolver etc?

Any thoughts on supporting cash games (w/ various rake levels, 6max or 9max) or deeper stacks?

Thoughts on lifetime subscriptions?

This is a solid competitor to piosolver etc

slymon99··on An insider-trading indictment shows ties to Bloomberg News scoops
Honestly, who thinks they can get away with moronically obvious insider trading like this? "Oh, I know, I'll take large positions right before this reporter publishes MNPI, and I'll do it five times". Obviously you are going to get caught!
slymon99··on Only Google is really allowed to crawl the web
Can you elaborate on this? Do you mean shorter layovers?
slymon99··on America’s bald eagle population continues to soar
The technical term is "contiguous united states"
slymon99··on Telegram is booming but needs advertisers and $700M soon
In the US it's much higher. Many users provide practically no revenue to FB (presumably FB wants the growth for the future).

slymon99··on Activists who embrace nuclear power
The more interesting climate advantage of nuclear power is it can be used directly in manufacturing, for example in creating steel (which represents 8% of GHG emissions). You can't make steel with electricity - the current strategy involves essentially setting a bunch of oil on fire on top of the requisite components (you can tell I'm not actually an industrial engineer, but steel generation is very not green).

However, you could harness the heat from a nuclear plant directly (instead of using it to create steam and drive turbines) to create steel. This has been discussed for decades[1], but modern improvements in nuclear technology could make it a reality

slymon99··on That XOR Trick (2020)
Sums increase in size, however. The nice part of the xor trick is your xor result will be the size of the base of the numbers (64 bits or whatever). If you are reading several tb of 64 bit integers from disk that could get larger than your memory (though unlikely, probably why you see this in kernels where memory might be more of a concern especially with embedded)
slymon99··on Surviving Disillusionment
designing data intensive applications is quite excellent
slymon99··on How Discord Won
Multi billion dollar does not mean revenue, it means valuation, which discord has well surpassed [0].

slymon99··on Johns Hopkins Poker Course
Fb ai research has some people working on solvers that crush human opponents even multiway

slymon99··on Archive of tech interview questions of Google, Amazon, FB, Samsung and et al.
this is presumably a response to the flood of trivial hacktober PR's that are all one line README changes that add little value
slymon99··on Hiring Without Whiteboards
Nah, some LC hards are extremely hard. Most FAANG interviews don't use hards
