slowandlow··on More Americans report near-constant cannabis use
> The other downsides were that I wasn't as sharp mentally when I was sober. I wasn't as ambitious. I was less social. In other words, it made me feel fine just hanging out in my apartment doing nothing. On the balance that made pot a negative for me.

This is exactly why I quit. I found myself not comprehending technical conversations as well as I used to while sober. Hanging out at home doing nothing when you REALLY do want to go out do something eventually got me to quit. For me ambition is what has guided me for so long and not having that created an emptiness. I too felt less anxiety but in the long run I was actively watching the days go by and no progress in my life.

I don't believe these things are talked about enough. Its just the stereotypical "pothead".

slowandlow··on Why some PhDs are quitting academia for unconventional jobs
I blame cultural marxism and the liberalization of our schools.
slowandlow··on YouTube TV Goes Down During World Cup Semifinal Croatia vs. England
should have used fuboTV
slowandlow··on Facebook Will Cut Off Access to Third Party Data for Ad Targeting
This won't stop the regulations coming their way. Facebook had the chance to prove they could be trusted but squandered it and may have ruined it for the tech industry. They know this and it's why they hired Washington lobbyists.
slowandlow··on New York Will Never Be Silicon Valley. And It's Good with That
yeah I'm ok with not being SV.
slowandlow··on Groups funded by the Koch brothers are campaigning against municipal broadband
Isn't MTA semi-private???
slowandlow··on Are “landscrapers” the new skyscrapers?
This style of architecture definitely allows for more sunlight and doesn't dirty the skyline with nasty highly reflective glass. Sometimes you're located in an area that is better without skyscrapers. Although I'm sure most of the posts here will be about "inefficiency".
slowandlow··on Peter Thiel and the Stanford Review
Gawker got what they deserved but this sets a dangerous precedent.
slowandlow··on Peter Thiel and the Stanford Review
So Gawker exercised free speech and he was allowed to tag along in an unrelated lawsuit. That sounds like a big loophole in the system. Say what you will about these "smut peddlers" like Gawker but that is an attack on free speech. I amazed more folks in the comments aren't upset about the constitution being perverted in such a way.
slowandlow··on Peter Thiel and the Stanford Review
Why did Thiel not just bring a lawsuit himself if he was truly being defamed? I don't see the how he is justified in hiding behind someone else's lawsuit. Seems cowardly to me; not a crime but speaks to his character.
slowandlow··on New York Has a Great Subway, If You’re Not in a Wheelchair
MTA runs on a deficit so yeah like any business they need to raise prices. Sadly :(
slowandlow··on New York Has a Great Subway, If You’re Not in a Wheelchair
I don't see too many elevators and hopefully it gets fixed with the push the governor is making towards modernizing stations across NYC.

It's important to remember that a lot of the stations, in Lower Manhattan especially, are way too small (4-5 foot wide platforms with 2 stairwells). I don't see elevators happening at those stations. A lot of these smaller platforms are connected other small platforms via stairs (think Canal Street - JZQNR6).

Good luck if your stop is on a bridge in Brooklyn or Queens.

slowandlow··on To Be a Young Black Man Working in an Office Full of White People
It's not really racism but as a black person it comes off a little insensitive. For a long we've been usually asked to perform as opposed to contribute in a more meaningful way for example.

I would find it strange if I was asked to perform for a board meeting hardly seems like the appropriate place for that. I would also take a bit of offense because it sends the message that all I'm good for is performing. Being the ONLY black guy heightens the stereotype that we're only good enough to entertain.

It's not something white people think about so it may be hard to realize what you're asking and how it may be interpreted.

I'm not advocating for social justice just voicing the black point of view. Also, the rest of the article is a bit shaky.

One more thing, sitting at a job and waiting to get fired for severance is terrible. It's embarrassing and dishonest. Your reputation is also at stake here. If you think no one knows what you're up to, you're very mistaken. BLACK people especially should not do this.

slowandlow··on Peter Thiel To Join Trump Transition Team
I feel like there's a conflict of interest here...
slowandlow··on Silicon Beach: Los Angeles booms as startup hub
How unfortunate, hopefully the culture in the city doesn't go stale and homogeneous.
slowandlow··on Kobe Bryant and Jeff Stibel Unveil $100M Venture Capital Fund
Insane work ethic and one the greatest. I really like this move. Founders beware, you must be prepared and confident.
slowandlow··on Birchbox Cuts About 12% of Staff
I had a phone interview with them and then checked their glassdoor. Needless to say I'm not surprised about this.
