slmjkdbtl··on RGFW: Single-header C99 window abstraction library
sokol_app.h has mobile support
slmjkdbtl··on Gliimly is a programming language for web services
I'm still not getting it, this looks like a standard language + swapped keywords + web service libraries, what does the new language accomplish?
slmjkdbtl··on Implementing Order-Independent Transparency
This is the first real brick wall I met when learning computer graphics, interesting how seemingly simple things in computer graphics is actually non-trivial.
slmjkdbtl··on IMG_0416
Wow, I hope there's a similar video platform now, filled with casual everyday videos of normal people, it'll be precious documentation for human kind.
slmjkdbtl··on A skeleton made from the bones of at least eight people thousands of years apart
alien
slmjkdbtl··on Money was never the end goal – mrdoob – threejs creator
Money not being the goal is the norm for these good projects, I hope one day to find out for my favorite project money is actually the end goal, that'll be fresh.
slmjkdbtl··on Cash: A small jQuery alternative for modern browsers
I'm confused, how is this helpful beyond having some aliases for already existing web apis?
slmjkdbtl··on M4 MacBook Pro
I switched from a 2014 MacBook pro to a 2020 M1 MacBook Air, yeah the CPU is much faster, but the build quality and software is a huge step backwards. The trackpad is feels fake, not nearly as responsive, keyboard also feel not as solid. But now I'm already used to it.
slmjkdbtl··on Don't use "click here" for link text
From the examples, I don't think it's good to bury the link in the content text either, at least some of the "click here" at the paragraph end is very clear and stand out.
slmjkdbtl··on David Lynch Interview Project
Love this, everyone should be interviewed, everyone should have a documentary, everyone's life is different and fascinating in some way.
slmjkdbtl··on Lessons from Plain Text
Question about hard wrapping: If you have a piece of hard wrapping text how do you easily add text in the middle? Or you just have to re-wrap all the following lines by hand
slmjkdbtl··on My first game with Carimbo, my homemade engine
That's literally what I fall into, making an engine then falls deeper into making programming language and editors, it's an endless hole.
slmjkdbtl··on The Static Site Paradox
Yes, and almost all clients will ask you to put a contact form on the site.
slmjkdbtl··on My first game with Carimbo, my homemade engine
I think most "I want to make an engine so I can make games faster" people are cursed to make engines forever, this is rare.
slmjkdbtl··on Sanding UI
I like zfs.rent, very small but still it's a functioning business site.
slmjkdbtl··on Flappy Bird for Android, only C, under 100KB
I see RenderTexture() is creating and uploading to GLBuffer every frame, is that ok for performance?

https://github.com/VadimBoev/FlappyBird/blob/bf3287d90d93ec0...

slmjkdbtl··on Comic Mono
I use APL386 as my daily font, has some comic sans vibe but has a simpler and cleaner look imo

https://abrudz.github.io/APL386/

slmjkdbtl··on Jeremy Couillard's video games capture what it's like to be alive
When I'm studying game design we spent a lot of time defining "what is a game?" While this is a good exercise, ultimately I think people shouldn't care about any label, or any is X Y questions, what matters is if you think the thing is good, if it's enjoyable etc.
slmjkdbtl··on Mpv – A free, open-source, and cross-platform media player
Love the scripting system. I spend 100% my time to write scripts for mpv and vim and 0% for actual work.
slmjkdbtl··on VanillaJSX.com
Yes I can understand it helps if it looks like DOM on first sight, I'm thinking more about the functional aspect where it can achieve the same thing without requiring a compiler and a new syntax (altho you can argue it's not new syntax just js + html)
slmjkdbtl··on VanillaJSX.com
Yeah the syntax is almost identical to vanilla js, but requiring a compiler is quite cumbersome compared to the advantage it provides imo.
slmjkdbtl··on VanillaJSX.com
I never understand the appeal of JSX over something like

  h("div", {}, [
    h("p", {}, "this is easy"),
    ...list.map((l) => h("li", {}, l),
  ])
With this you automatically get loops, variable interpolation etc without having to invent a compiler and new syntax. Can someone help me understand?
slmjkdbtl··on Firedancer: Language for 2D shmups bullet-hell patterns
Oh I'm using uxn as an example for great creativity and utility (but I guess the utility is mostly for the creator and dedicated fans)
slmjkdbtl··on Firedancer: Language for 2D shmups bullet-hell patterns
I understand where you're coming from. I also value a lot on the artistic side of a project, but if you compare to a project like 100r's uxn, a lot of custom language / vm projects fall a bit short on both the creative and utility sides. But still, I'm all for creating things just for oneself or just for the pleasure of creating it.
slmjkdbtl··on Firedancer: Language for 2D shmups bullet-hell patterns
This is cool but I never understand most DSLs, looks like most of them can just be defined as some functions in your host language. The example on the main page just looks like JavaScript and you define the parallel(), radial() functions yourself to return some data, and a run() function to deal with these data / run the game. Writing a compiler and VM for this is a huge overkill imo, if it aims to be productive and not just a programming practice. Am I missing something?
slmjkdbtl··on Qub – a framework for building websites with QBasic

  alias qub="source <(curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jamonholmgren/qub/main/src/cli.sh)"
a bit concerning to hot alias a simple command to remote shell execution
slmjkdbtl··on Taking command of the Context Menu in macOS
I've been using context menu quick action for a while [0] and they hugely improve my productivity. A few of my most used ones:

- Search Image (search selected image through google lens)

- Compress Images (compress selected images with jpegoptim or pngquant)

- Open In Terminal / Vim (open selected directory in terminal / selected files in Vim)

- Merge Subtitles (merge .srt subtitles into video files)

Also discovered it's very useful to enable the preview panel in Finder (View -> Show Preview or cmd+shift+p) because it has 3 slots for quick action, much faster than going to context menu.

Also for showing output, you can use

  osascript -e "display notification \"Message Here!\" with title \"Title Here!\""
[0] https://github.com/slmjkdbtl/rc/tree/master/shortcuts (shame that the .shortcut files aren't text based like automator files, no easy way to preview)
slmjkdbtl··on Taking command of the Context Menu in macOS
Do they mean to use Shortcuts instead of Automator? It does seem Apple moved their focus to Shortcuts, which does cover the features Automator has (at least for my use cases, curious to hear the differences and the state of these 2 apps from people more informed)
slmjkdbtl··on Taking command of the Context Menu in macOS
How come it doesn't run with Shortcuts? Any error message? I migrated all my context menu scripts from Automator to Shortcuts and have no problem
slmjkdbtl··on The Origins of DS_store (2006)
I remember there used to ways to turn off the creation of .DS_Store but they removed it, I can't figure out for life why they would make such a change. I had to write a program [0] to watch the entire file system and delete .DS_Store as soon as they're created.
