sllabres··on DIY Particle Detector
If i understand correctly, the sensor hast to be inside the metal box, as well as the item to be measured. Both shilded from light.

Even the glas covering the diode has to be broken away / removed

sllabres··on Germany flips to Apple-Google approach on smartphone contact tracing
Can someone explain who invents this abbreviations? The PP-PT and P-3T parts are are exactly the same except completely differently shorted. In P-3T the "3" is in reference to the "P", not the "T", so i would think it should be either DPP-PT or maybe D3PT. Then the hyphen in the first abbreviation are at exactly different positions when spelled out: PEPP-PT vs Pan-European Privacy-Preserving Proximity Tracing.
sllabres··on File Integrity 6: Which image format is most resilient?
Interesting, didn't know. For arbitrary data I found "rsbep".

sllabres··on Full Circle: The complicated history of why there are 360 degrees in a circle
Surveyors seems to use Gradian/gon often.

There is still another circle measurement, the mil which is 6400 for one turn. But I just learned by reading the wikipedia page, that there is not only the 6400 NATO mils I knew, but also 6000 Warsaw Pact mils or 6300 Swedish "streck"

I've searched but could not find a good document explaining. Could you elaborate a bit?
sllabres··on A broken memory module hid in plain sight
It can be the other hand round: We once had multiple enterprise class server in a data center that suffered from a strange problem. After a couple of days, sometimes weeks, they stopped working with memory nearly always reported as the culprit. It took some time to find the true reason, which we discovered with the vendor after many hours of analyzing and swapping hardware. The error only occurred when the server was lightly loaded and could be mitigated by disabling the CPU C states entirely in the server configuration. As memory, CPU test or test jobs we had written produced high system load, they never showed any sign of error during test runs because they prevented the CPU from entering higher C states.
sllabres··on The Universe Within 12.5 Light Years
And Voyager 1, the furthest man made object has already completed 0,0023 lightyears from the 4.3 lightyears to the nearest star Alpha Centauri. But its heading in the wrong direction anyway...
sllabres··on Ramanujan Surprises Again (2015)
Interesting but as it seems currently without practical implications for multiplication:

When I'll drive down a motorway I doubt that I use sound or inertial for planing my further track. I presume that one could drive 'remote' with only visual, if it would be the same quality as when one was in the vehicle.

Only asking because the price is already being multiplied by 'users' further down: where do one get 100 GB for $0.1 for mailbox storage?

sllabres··on Efficient string copying and concatenation in C
I was in the impression that TP strings grew dynamically (memory), but I just checked for TP and this seems to be wrong. Probably too much time has passed since then ;)

I have searched for a bit more info about core memory recently and found "Core Memory Explained (and Demonstrated)" (~25 minutes) quite interesting:

sllabres··on Flight Simulator 4 from 1989 running on three immersive monitors (2017)
Obviously, the utility was limited, but apparently people did it.

For graphics yes. But around that time all Borland (C, Pascal) products supported debugging with to monitors (VGA+Hercules). And I used a little TSR for years that transferred the contents of the main VGA Screen to Hercules via 'PtrScr' key, which was handy too. All text mode of course.

sllabres··on 12.1T Digits of Pi
For the 12.1*10^12 calculation the refernced web site says: Hudnovsky algorithm [1] for the calculation, Bellard BBP formula for verification. Implementation in the programm y-cruncher "A Multi-Threaded Pi-Programy-chruncher" [3] For the math see [4] also.

Don't know if this holds water... E.g. a cartographic map: just a "diagram" of facts?

Why not ask if there is a license for this file?

Edit: And as I see in this thread there is gnu-units (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Units) probably there is something with a license.

sllabres··on There are real reasons for Linux to replace ifconfig, netstat, etc
As most applications older than a year are called legacy nowadays gcc (~30 YO) or openssl (~20 YO) are not what comes into my mind when asked for "modern" commands.

Neither are for 'dd' or 'tar' (probably 30 YO) from the other comment.

There are probably other, younger commands not following the --long-option pattern, but i think that doesn't make it better to break this convention.
