slimshady94··on ZeppelinOS, a platform for smart contract applications in Ethereum
Zeppelin is actually one of the more popular libraries; many contracts use their SafeMath and Token libs. It may seem abstract to people unfamiliar with the space but their libraries are indeed useful, they are basically the recommended stdlib for Solidity. The need for a token still isn't clear though.
slimshady94··on Free Ethereum spam bots are ravaging Twitter
The simplest solution would be to hire 2 interns familiar with crypto twitter to sit down and manually ban the fake replies full-time for a couple of months. Would that really be so costly/difficult?
slimshady94··on Tom Wolfe Has Died
I don't remember much of Bonfire, but I definitely remember a specific paragraph in which almost every noun and verb was preceded by the adjective 'f*ing'. Very vivid yet puzzling for a young kid.
slimshady94··on A female engineer's opinion on why there are fewer women in tech
What is this phenomenon called? I've seen it plenty of times; there must be some research etc on this.
slimshady94··on Unroll.me to close to EU users saying it can’t comply with GDPR
Why can't databases and DBMS systems come out with GDPR-compliant integrations that automatically provide the required data-wipe services? Surely it won't be so difficult to have built-in triggers/scripts that delete data etc automatically? And if the entire ecosystem uses these tools, it'll be better for everyone, and the onboarding/integration even for startups can be easy as well - maybe as easy as simply installing an NPM package.
slimshady94··on Magnasanti: Large and Terrifying SimCity (2010)

slimshady94··on The latest trend for tech interviews: Days of unpaid homework
That's not whataboutism, that's valid criticism of a flaw in your idea.

>Should we therefore resign and stop trusting each other altogether?

This is a strawman, that was not suggested. What was suggested was to have an interview process which doesn't involve informal/subjective trust. The best programmers don't have huge twitter networks or github stars - some might, but not all. That's no criteria for filtering.

slimshady94··on Coinsecure India lost their Bitcoins
Time to reset the 'X days since a crypto exchange got hacked' timer.
slimshady94··on CockroachDB 2.0 released
For example, I wouldn't mention it on my resume.
slimshady94··on The health care toll today’s work culture exacts on employees
The gazelle is not self-conscious about it's life, and whether it's muscles are beautiful or not. It will never sense the beauty of what you're describing - from it's point of view, it will just feel fear, pain, then die.

Perhaps a higher-dimensional being would also see some beauty in our life that we cannot comprehend currently - like the gazelle can't comprehend it's Olympic flow, a human can't comprehend the long-term beauty of how they toil and work against the odds.

> whose life is better? If by better you mean, which being feels more emotion/happiness/satisfaction, it's an open question. But if better implies more progress and safety/longevity, then humans it is.

slimshady94··on Online flag waver
The title immediately made me think that this would be a competitive multi-player webgame that invoked the patriotism of users to keep their country's flag flying.
slimshady94··on #deletefacebook
In developing countries like India and Eastern Europe, there are many posts with hundreds and thousands of likes and comments. There IS an ecosystem of users who engage with linkedin deeply. HR recruiters and entrepreneurs publish long insightful/motivational pieces which give them leads and publicity. Then there are also those '+1 if you're interested in this job' posts, which garner plenty of comments.
slimshady94··on Facebook failing, Zuckerberg and Sandberg absent: commentary
Nice perspective. A revolution for other countries, garbage bullshit in our own.
slimshady94··on Theranos, CEO Holmes, and Former President Balwani Charged with Fraud
Those people couldn't pay $500,000 and the shares worth in fines.
slimshady94··on Dtube – A decentralized video platform using STEEM and IPFS
Automated AI algorithms, some day.
slimshady94··on Days Since a Cryptocurrency Exchange Has Lost More Than $100M
It's been a rough month for sure, but I don't think such a high frequency of hacks can continue.
slimshady94··on Telegram has raised an initial $850M for its billion-dollar ICO
There's obviously no way they need so much money. The discounts pre-sale investors receive on their tokens will be enough to let them sell at a profit when the tokens become saleable. We don't even know how far along is the implementation they're working on, what will future adoption be like - at this point, there's only insider investors looking to cash in on the hype.
slimshady94··on Ask HN: Which are the most damaging books you've read?
Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. The idea of objectivism and running the world on your own shoulders is idealistic at best, but for 14-year-old me, it was like a free pass to feel intellectually superior to others. It cost me 2-3 years of my social life to realize that I'm not an island.
slimshady94··on SpaceX Falcon Heavy launch webcast (live 12:45 PST)
So why exactly would it orbit the sun for a billion years?
slimshady94··on Show HN: PonziCoin, a transparent, decentralized Ponzi Scheme you can trust
Can you see how many tokens have been bought till now?
slimshady94··on Ask HN: What is the most nonsensical crypto currency you have seen?
XP - experience points. It's team is a bunch of anonymous cartoons, no whitepaper or any sort of technical discussion, it's github is a fork with a few changes committed by a developer working on another coin just a few months back, and it's worth >$800 million apparently.
slimshady94··on Proof of Stake Pools for Ethereum
Fascinating whitepaper, what an explosion of economic incentives the staking ecosystem may bring on.
slimshady94··on WhatsApp told to stop sharing user data with Facebook by French authorities
So would bitcoin be a step back here?
slimshady94··on Overcoming Us vs. Them
This is a very insightful comment, thanks.
slimshady94··on Could the Nuclear Family Be the Reason We’re All Miserable?
>you do nothing for the conversation, you only prolong the back and forth

This is an important contribution - the back and forth has to be prolonged, it has to be argued endlessly, to change the status quo. Not everyone has to become a leader. Awareness is also good enough for many.

>We are in control of our own destinies

Yes we are, but the ease of control could be much better for many people than what it is today.

slimshady94··on American Equity
Would Bill Gates have worked so hard (presumably) if he didn't have that specific understanding of ownership and casuality? Isn't that type of motivation and incentive necessary, to grind through the obstacles?
slimshady94··on I'm on the FCC. Please stop us from killing net neutrality
Then let's replace the government with open source AI and ML algorithms. End corruption!
slimshady94··on FCC plan would give Internet providers power to choose the sites customers see
How would people react to the inaccessibility of porn sites? It is, after all, a huge part of many people's internet experience. And due to its taboo nature, it probably won't be publicly offered on the ISP plans.
slimshady94··on Blue-collar wages are surging. Can it last?
It's a tragedy of the commons, isn't it? If everyone left at 5PM, I'd be pretty tempted to stay till 6, for a chance to bond with management and get promotions faster.
slimshady94··on Skype Vanishes from App Stores in China, Including Apple’s
File storage - Sia

Verification - Civic/KYC solutions?

Prevent cracked apps - some game theory/staking mechanism that makes you lose if you don't play the official version
