slezyr··on Edward Snowden Says 'Media Pushing for War'
> Bloomberg even accidentally announced that Russia had invaded Ukraine (before apologizing).

Well, they are not wrong here. They indeed did.

slezyr··on 14-inch MacBook Pro review: A Mac Pro in your backpack
> Some are unable to work in IT or as programmers because of it.

This point is very forced. Just don't buy the most expensive laptop on the market.

I have never had any apple devices, and yet I'm a software developer.

slezyr··on Crypto CEO threatens customers after mistakenly sending them millions
> Tweet may have been deleted

Why use twitter's widget instead of copying the text content of the tweet?

slezyr··on Qt 6.2 LTS Released
This is why they keep pushing QML and published a free book for it: https://www.qt.io/product/qt6/qml-book
slezyr··on Do not leave XPS laptop in any sleep/hibernate/standby mode when placed in a bag
Yes, but this is an issue with Apple products. My old PC with not-so-fast SSD can boot (Linux and Windows) much faster than 16" MacBook Pro.
slezyr··on Do not leave XPS laptop in any sleep/hibernate/standby mode when placed in a bag
It might be slower than cold boot on machines with 32GB of RAM
slezyr··on Epic launches anti-cheat support for Linux, Mac, and Steam Deck
> From what I have read and watched, it has been very successful.

Let me guess, you have not played CS:GO? There is an insane number of obvious cheaters, more than in other games I played.

Also, there is TeamFortress 2 that's just has been abandoned and they can not an anti-cheat to it, it seems.

slezyr··on Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite
It sounds like inkjets printers - subsidized cheap device, but full of DRM to lock you in. BUT! They are great if you are an advanced user and willing to buy 3rd party cartridges, mess with firmware, etc.

I wonder if all the mentioned issues can be fixed by using koreader.

slezyr··on FreshTomato
Any time you can actually use it on your hardware.

OpenWRT/Tomato can work on devices with 4MB RAM, 32MB ROM.

slezyr··on System76 Pangolin Linux-first laptop with AMD internals now in stock
You can, there is a setting for such cases

slezyr··on U.S. drone pilot leaks footage reveals accidental killing of children and adults
It's great to live in Ukraine. You have all the downsides and none of the benefits of the EU.
slezyr··on Why most programming language performance comparisons are most likely wrong
> If you (or your company) are paying cloud fees for hosting your services (including serverless), you are absolutely throwing money away, perhaps for a "good" reason ('we have a huge rails codebase'), if you ignore this information.

No one "throws away money" based on the Tech Empower benchmark. Because many of those optimizations are not free and, often, are not available.

Such micro-optimizations are present in every program. This benchmark is just noise at this point and should be used as an argument against any framework/language.

https://github.com/TechEmpower/FrameworkBenchmarks/blob/mast...

slezyr··on Why most programming language performance comparisons are most likely wrong
> Tech Empower web framework benchmarks, but -- across a battery of tests -- one may clearly discern that there are NO python or ruby frameworks in the top 75% performing web frameworks yet plenty of go, Java, and PHP frameworks there.

Have you seen the source code for the Django app there and one of the top performers? The Django app is just a simple example any developer would write. While Rust's top performers are full of hacks like checking the N-th letter of the HTTP method, no other person would use it in daily life.

slezyr··on It looks like a product but is secretly a subscription
Annoying dude, but he talks about this DRM and fixes his EcoTank issue here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA3wOmujZHA
slezyr··on Xiaomi takes the smartphone sales crown
Xiaomi does not make Android One phones anymore, and there are some preinstalled apps from Xiaomi. Also, it's full of Google Apps that are spyware but from a different company...
slezyr··on It looks like a product but is secretly a subscription
EcoTanks have a DRM chip on the ink dump container instead.
slezyr··on C++ Dev Ecosystem 2021
> and yet they don't even support C++20.. not EVEN MODULES

Can you name a build system that supports them?

slezyr··on USA Today is getting a paywall. Who’s the audience for it?
> You and your friends are not the only consumers in the world.

I can use this argument against you.

Not sure why would users around the world pay for US newspapers.

slezyr··on Linux Rust Support
Ok. So... Will I need to have two compilers to build the kernel? gcc and rustc(LLVM)?
slezyr··on Echo Dots store a wealth of data, even after you reset them
> I'll bet you could get a bunch of Wifi and Netflix credentials by buying up used TVs too (another place where people have privacy fears).

And smart light bulbs

slezyr··on Blender and the Rabbids
Never mind the other answers. GPU rendering is not supported on macOS. Generally CPU rendering is quite slow.

https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/render/cycles/gpu_...

slezyr··on Developing Games on Linux: An Interview with Little Red Dog Games
Well, no surprise. It's not resource hungry and there is a hard 60 FPS lock for everyone, so no tearing as well.

There is a 60-80 FPS difference for me in CS:GO between Linux and Windows with AMD graphics.

slezyr··on Open Source OpenGL ES 3.1 on Mali GPUs with Panfrost
> The default renderer Eevee is a GPU-only renderer that works fine on my RX 570 with the FOSS amdgpu driver.

However, you need Cycles, and not Eevee. They have very significant difference in quality.

https://all3dp.com/2/blender-render-from-eevee-simply-explai...

> You can also run Cycles' CUDA backend with ROCm on amdgpu (somewhat..).

No. No. No, you can't.

They support only some GPUs !!!AND CPUs!!!. No support for RX 5xxx-6xxx XT. They are very picky about the hardware they support.

slezyr··on Open Source OpenGL ES 3.1 on Mali GPUs with Panfrost
> They'll still have ... and AMD kernels.

Do they? Blender uses OpenCL implementation for AMD GPUs.

slezyr··on Open Source OpenGL ES 3.1 on Mali GPUs with Panfrost
Yes, but not a single open-source driver can make a render with Blender 3D.
slezyr··on EA got hacked and games source code leaked including new game Battlefield 2042
The title is incorrect in many ways. The source code is stolen, not leaked. Source codes of Frostbite + FIFA were stoles, not other titles.
slezyr··on Microsoft has turned the Surface Duo into a handheld Xbox

slezyr··on Baltic airlines reroute flights to avoid Belarus airspace
> It’s odd to me that the Ryanair flight yesterday was already closer to its destination of Vilnius than Minsk when it turned around.

Closer, but it had the wrong altitude for Vilnius. They were intercepted earlier. See this visualization

slezyr··on Sublime Text 4
1.) Speed. IDEs often take seconds to start and you just need to edit .md, .json, *.sh.

2.) Support of different file formats and ease to install a new one with Package Control. Often, it's just Ctrl-Shift-P -> Type "Inst" -> type format's name and it's done.

3.) Many IDEs show the typed symbols after some delay and I really hate it.
