CryptoAssets (ICO, token, etc) vs CryptoCurrency

CryptoCurrency is the base primitive of the blockchain, that is consumed to store transactions permanently, as well as to reward the block creators. CryptoAssets are usually extra metadata in transactions that updates some state. The USDT token actually runs on the bitcoin blockchain, on an early 2nd layer network called OMNI. ICO takes the cryptoasset further and issues some 2nd layer token and then resell that for the underlying cryptocurrency. Its a magic bean sale, paid with gold coins.

An ICO on ethereum, for example, is simply a database entry that says your address holds some number of tokens in a contract. You do not own them, you are just tagged as having a certain number. Most contracts have a suicide clause. One authorized (we hope... ooops) method call could nuke that value instantly.

With a cryptocurrency, you control the value stored in unspent transactions. With this you own the private key. No external party can remove those funds with that private key.

The scam was not so much with Brave, but how the BAT token was distributed. There were 184 investors in the BAT ICO -- is this a fair distribution for what is proposed to be the new attention economy?

The scam is in the back end of how ICO's are run. Even if the project is legit, doesn't mean the token distribution was legit. $35m in 30 seconds??

Yeah, we must run MS-DOS forever. All software upgrades and protocol changes are wrong. We don't want no GUI or protected mode runtime, we will hatefork MS-DOS and run it forever. /s

So Hashcash was proposed by Adam Back, who is now the CTO of blockstream, a major bitcoin development firm. His vision, and the vision you describe is actually bitcoin.

A 2017 Hashcash was actually implemented recently and published at http://hashcash.com/ Bad news is that it requires something to store the value, so this requires bitcoin as the token transferred via hashcash.

What you have described in your post doesn't actually work that way in the real world -- You cant set a global proof of work value (bitcoin difficulty adjustment) or able to build a proof of work that would allow a phone or desktop to hash -- it will be eaten alive by spam farms with ASICs (bitcoin mining asic farms).

legacy lol --

a malleable tx cryptocurrency that cannot support Hash Time Lock Contracts safely (thus LN and proper microtx's) is the legacy...

Bitcoin cash! Ewwwwwwwww, i wont touch that with a 10 foot poll. As a holder of bitcoin, I will never spend the UTXO's on this chain, thus denying this false bitcoin of spendable outputs.

Wouldn't something like lightning network microtx's be better than Bcash?

There are many flows that permit direct debit, and that may not have the strongest authentication or protections.

If you want to test, post your bank details here!

Dont forget tax!

Try:

$ echo "(93250.1)+(13000-9325)0.15"|bc

gives tax payments on 13k USD to IRS 1483.75

9% of take home pay is

$ echo "(13000-((93250.1)+(13000-9325)0.15))*0.09"|bc 1035

Then there is the additional sales tax at point of sale, which can further reduce buying power.

Yes its 135 than your projection, but that might be food for the week.

Same in South Australia, mostly to prevent the spread of Fruit Fly (confined to eastern part of Australia). WA and SA rely economically on fruit plantations, so the noxious fruit fly could cause grave damage to local economies.

Don't travel with fruit in Australia, its the height of selfishness.

Could we please get a copy of the apk? I feel we need a multi-pronged defense against such technologies:

* Fake app, so people can pass a manual inspection of their device

* Fake dataset, to feed so many false positives into their database it makes it time-cost prohibitive to investigate

* Conflicting dataset - Duplicate MD5 strings matching 'bad' and 'good' files; may corrupt internal databases or provide plausible deniability
