The only reason INTC isn't in a death spiral is because the US Govt. won't let that happen
The friends that make 0 effort however I cut out. You gotta give me something to work with...
One of the most smartest people you'll ever read or speak to. It seems he has at least a modest understanding of important topics in almost any field you can mention, and an impressive mastery in a few dozen. From Brutalist architecture, tennis to Latin American art.
He talks and writes about politics, but rarely if ever is dogmatic or partisan. Has no problem admitting he was wrong about something, or that he doesn't know the answer (depressingly rare).
I highly recommend his blog and podcast. IMO the most underrated interviewer in the game. Each of his guests he researches deeply and always asks the most incisive, intelligent questions you wish you had thought of.
TC is fairly popular among the HN set but could always be more widely known.
This is not in any way similar to video games.
This entire thread seems to be overrun with Tankies or CCP bots.
Or a country that has no freedom of the press, savagely beats or murders political dissidents, will take away your job and livelihood if you dare question CCP orthodoxy...
The fact that you think is somehow morally equivalent to an NDA is just absolutely astonishing.
Supply and demand. There are way more people that want to live in these places than houses available. And we keep making new people every year.
The observations in your original citation were NOT NOT NOT a random sample.
Are you really this deeply ignorant of basic statistical methods or are you just being dishonest?
Y'see in SCIENCE we have this generally stated principle that we don't draw empirical conclusions from a dataset of a few hundred observations.
How banal!
"This echoes data seen from studies in other countries, including highly vaccinated Singapore, where 75 percent of new infections reportedly occur in people who are partially and fully vaccinated."
This does absolutely nothing to back up your claim that vaccinated people are just as likely to spread the Delta variant.
But please ask for help next time you move those goalposts, I wouldn't want you hurting yourself.
you're clearly just a deranged person with some weird obsession about Elon.
Basically the polar opposite of the Elon Cultists.
Musk was accepted and enrolled into a Material Science PhD at Stanford. He dropped out to be an entrepreneur. Really not sure why you are being pedantic here. The point is he has the technical chops as evidenced by being in a Stanford engineering PhD program. Trevor had absolutely nothing.
>Can you tell me what Kimball's qualifications are for sitting on the Tesla board?
It's spelled Kimbal, as long as we are being pedantic and all.
And board members of large public companies, and even startups, generally have ZERO operational control within the company.
This seems, quite different than Trevor's Fuck-up brother literally running hydrogen infrastructure for his company.
I really don't see why you are so obsessed with shitting on Tesla or defending Nikola here. There is a big fucking difference between Tesla and the Nikola fraud, and it was obvious from the start.
It's an incredibly small sample size, directly after an unusual event after very large indoor public gathering of many people.
This is not how science works.
That long Covid is a pernicious result for many people with debilitating effects is well established in the literature, it's not controversial.
That refusing to get the virus under control will lead to further variants potentially worse than Delta that perhaps the vaccines are less able to guard against. Not some crazy conspiracy!
What this is ultimately about is many of our fellow citizens believe "my choice" and "freedom" means the "freedom" to infect other people with a potentially debilitating virus rather than they be mildly inconvenienced.
I'm not sure why that's interesting or important. The Tesla fanboys had no special insight into Tesla, Elon or anything. They are part of a cult of personality that bought the marketing hook, line, and sinker.
Only about a year ago there were hundreds of Trevor Milton fanboys all over HN, Reddit and elsewhere just sure that Nikola was the next Tesla and anyone that didn't agree was just "bitter" or had no vision. Where are they now?
There's no difference between either group of fanboys, really. Other than one got lucky and their cult leader delivered on some of his claims.
Tesla was run by a technical founder (Stanford PhD pedigree fwiw) that knows his shit (though a bit crazy and prone to exaggeration and hyperbole) and the company has some of the best engineers in the world employed there.
Nikola was founded by a dude with zero technical background who as far as anyone can tell had no serious engineering expertise in-house. He even hired his brother--a guy who used to install carpets--to run Nikola's hydrogen infrastructure.
These two companies aren't even in the same league imo
Hell, much of the same "speculative gamesmanship" was going on in the tech bubble of the late 90s. Just completely irrational valuations detached from reality. We ended up in a big correction.
As Benjamin Graham said several decades ago and Warren Buffett Repeats constantly "over the short-term the market is a voting machine, over the long-term it's a weighing machine"
And I think claiming Leo is "cooler" and better as an actor is a bit silly. Dwayne is an action star and the best at what he does, Leo does an entirely different thing with more dramatic, serious roles.
It's like comparing and NBA athlete to an NFL athlete. They aren't even competing against each other, and who cares?
This is really lazy, unserious analysis.
Housing supply in cities across the entire western world shrank because people were working remotely and fleeing urban centers which were shut down and huge centers of spread.
So no. Not just Airbnb.
The effect is relatively small (a few percentage points) compared to other factors, which bears out through empirical studies which are cited.
Their property tax laws are absolutely insane but good luck ever changing it.
Not saying that isn't worth doing something about but there it certainly wouldn't be at the top of my list. End onerous and restrictive zoning and increase housing supply should be the first move.

There were dozens and dozens of articles in every publication over the last decade or longer about the decline of SF, COL is too expensive, homeless, dodging shit on the street, etc.
Then the pandemic and exponentially more articles about the flight from SF, NYC, etc. people are now fleeing for good.
Of course the actual statistics show a tiny fraction of people left SF. I think an article which focuses on this reality is well warranted.
If anything the people criticizing this article have an agenda in their belief that SF is awful and everyone should leave and anything to the contrary is of course biased.
Not that I should have to say this but there is of course plenty to criticize about SF and the Bay Area. The reality is the overwhelming majority of people are not leaving anytime soon. Only a tiny fraction are leaving.
It's one of the most volatile assets anyone can invest in. The vast majority of people are investing in it are driven to it by hype alone.
This is gambling. There is no other way to describe it more generally.
People in media and elsewhere calling it "investing" hides the fact that the risk is not much better than betting on a few hands of blackjack.
And hey betting relatively small amounts at a casino OR on crypto is totally fine, go for it! Betting more than you can afford to lose it's just insanity.
I've heard the most ridiculously hateful and racist things prefaced by "I'm not a racist but..."
Clearly in these people's own minds they aren't racist/misogynist, but when you are pushing plainly racist or misogynistic views it doesn't matter.
The statements are misogynistic. If you think you can convince your boss your intent wasn't to be bigoted so your bigoted comments aren't actually bigoted then be my guess. I am confident you are unlikely to succeed.
Really solid defense!
Almost every single one of the posters defending this misogynistic behavior are just deliberately leaving out his most incendiary and misogynistic remark and instead focusing on comments he made that are less objectionable.
Why do these people deserve "credit"? Am I suppose to believe only focusing on the least objectionable comments to paint him as some unfairly maligned martyr is just an accident?
