sky87··on F5less (web) development - let ctrl-s do more for you in an agnostic way
f5less is cross-platform (being based on java7 fs watching feature) and cross-browser (because it uses websockets for reloading stuff). I Haven't checked livereload in a while so i don't know exactly how far they have come with the windows support, but last time i checked it wasn't quite there yet. That being said livereload probably offers more features on the live reloading side.

The strength of f5less lies, IMHO, on being essentially a command line tool: you can do anything you want when a fs notification is triggered, and in addition you can reload web content using websockets.

Another strength is that the client reloading is very flexible and extensible, being javascript you can just change the f5less.js file to do whatever you want when a file with a certain filename is changed. I just encoded the basic and probably most common behaviours.

If you want f5less is something like watchr + guard-livereload, only command line and easily extensible.

Thanks, I hope you will find it useful!
sky87··on I'm a cargo cult programmer, help me
The problem is, if you "try to think outside of the box", of if you "try to remember things", you will not be able to... And if you stop and think about when you tried to do those things, well you will probably notice that you passed almost all the time worrying, or doing something else as useless as that.

The point is that you shouldn't try to do something, you should do it, i.e., you "span" a desire in your soul and you go along the feeling, the "thinking" is just for control, not substance... at first you will litteraly be bugged by thoughts like "i'm not good enogh for this" etc... aknowledge the existence of those thoughts, and then throw them away.

Yours is a post about bad self-fulfilling prophecies.

It's not really a matter of intelligence for the most part, it's only a matter of experience.

PS.: oh, and AFTER you got rid of the bad self-fulfilling prophecies, you could try to create some good ones :)

Good luck, you are going to need it

sky87··on Ask HN: How to draw a single pixel?
Well, it pretty much depends on what system you are using. On linux for example you could use frame buffers (on windows or osx i have no idea). But i think you should check out some kind of library like SDL, which is easy to use and has bindings for common lisp and python (it's written in C).

EDIT: take a look to http://code.google.com/p/lispbuilder/wiki/LispbuilderSDL

sky87··on Ask HN: Any advice on the best way to learn a musical instrument?
http://www.pianofundamentals.com/ has important advices
sky87··on Ask HN: What gift to teach a 7 year-old programming?
+1 for Lego Mindstorm, maybe a book about Processing when he is a bit older and if he likes the stuff
sky87··on Ask HN: Need a book recommendation
I would suggest "Processing, a programming handbook for visual designers and artists" by Reas, Fry. It is a lovely book for visual designers with lots of (mostly short) snippets side by side to graphic outputs doing cool stuff, all organized by themes
