skurland78704··on My fellow geeks, we need to have a talk.
"...give people constructive criticisms. If their design is bad, tell them what they can do to improve it. If there code is bad, offer to help them patch it and make it better. If there spelling or grammar is off, just let it go."

I perceive a profound inconsistency.

skurland78704··on Ask HN: Finally have loose change and spare time, but no sense of purpose. Help.
I disagree with your first assertion; a Hayabusa could make you very happy. ;-)
skurland78704··on Ask HN: How do you prevent slouching at your desk?
Use a Swiss ball for a desk chair.

Squat, deadlift.

skurland78704··on Google Philosophy
Google's results for telephone number search used to be a lot better than they are now.
skurland78704··on Ask HN: What to do about "grand ideas" in fields you have no expertise in?

skurland78704··on UPS was founded by 2 teenagers, 1 Bicycle, and $100 borrowed from a friend
"UPS developed software that routes trucks such that they minimize left turns in their deliveries. By doing so, they reduced their annual fuel consumption by nearly 51,000 gallons in Washington DC alone. The reduction in fuel comes from drivers not having to sit idling at red lights waiting to make left hand turns."

I wonder if mapquest, google maps et al do that.

skurland78704··on Ask HN: Does my company with $140,000 annual revenue have any value?
Keep it; a decent income would've made grad school significantly less painful. 500 hours a year is not a full time job; I think your odds of selling it at the price it's worth to you are very low.
skurland78704··on How can I keep learning on my 1.5 hr commute?
Digital voice recorder, dragon transcription at work; you can do a lot of thinking out loud in 90 minutes.
skurland78704··on Quebec broke law in buying Microsoft software
"... anyone who thinks replacing 10's of thousands of systems is a cakewalk is simply ignorant."

Anyone who conflates 800 workstations with tens of thousands of systems is a damn sight worse than ignorant.

skurland78704··on The Age of the Essay
Regarding the combover:

And, of course, at what angle does the combover look best?

Straight on, no wind, good overhead lighting... you know, the bathroom mirror.

skurland78704··on Maker's Schedule, Manager's Schedule
Or sacrifice Tuesdays, for example, to the suits; one meeting might fuck up a day, sure, but eight meetings would fill it, possibly usefully.
