skot9000··on A few things to know before stealing my 914 (2022)
Don’t worry buddy, nobody is going to try and steal it. They will just back into it with a SUV in every parking lot you dare to enter.
skot9000··on Introduction to Open Source Laptop Project by Lukas Henkel
Came here to say this too. KiCAD has come a LONG way in the last couple years. It’s suitable for professional work and a no brainer for open source hardware.

Who is going to drop $4k/year for an Altium license to contribute to your open source project?!

skot9000··on Apple Introduces the New HomePod
Hopefully these self-brick less than HomePod 1!
skot9000··on My Secret Life as an 11 year old BBS sysop
Ahh, I have so many good memories of BBSing as a kid in the 707.

Seeing that dot matrix printout of the BBS list brings me right back. The lure of a BBS that was a toll call was strong.

skot9000··on Nostr is a stupid simple P2P protocol that works, built by builders
Digiconomist’s model is flawed and doesn’t represent actual mining electricity use or carbon output.

Also he’s a central banker, so not exactly motivated to fix it.

skot9000··on I help seniors with technology issues
I think a lot of internet connected hardware is sold cheaper than it would be otherwise just so they can get some consumer data harvesting software into your life.

ie, that laptop would be more expensive without the junky pre-installed software.

Nothing new, and still a shame they don’t let consumers know what’s going on. It’s even more of a shame when expensive things do it too —- like cars.

skot9000··on 2000-Watt Society
This wouldn’t really be necessary if we had cleaner power generation.
skot9000··on Logisim – A Graphical Tool for Designing and Simulating Digital Logic Circuits
That’s cool they switched CS61C to RISC-V.. we did a MIPS CPU (although maybe they are similar now?)
skot9000··on IRS guidance for thieves, drug dealers, and corrupt officials
With this you can get busted for stealing _and_ not paying taxes on the fair market value.
skot9000··on FedEx Service Alerts: National Service Disruption
I looked into the "Guarantee" issue a while back when I felt dissatisfied with Comcast despite their "Customer Satisfaction Guarantee". Unfortunately it seems Guarantee is just a meaningless marketing term.
skot9000··on Simple Minecraft Clone in 580 lines of Python
This is amazing. I've been playing with it all night. From a high level, what would be a strategy for making this multiplayer?
skot9000··on 2600hz on TechCrunch; Open Carrier Telecom
Interesting name! My first thought was the H should be capitalized. But, I guess it is a company name not a unit.
skot9000··on Show HN: What colour is your IP address?
I used something similar to differentiate between users on http://wrd.skot9000.com/
skot9000··on Beware of Ballers on a Budget
tell them welcome back!
skot9000··on Your Credentials Are Worthless Here
Top CS schools don't teach programming, they teach Computer Science. CS students are very likely to become good programmers from side projects, but so can liberal arts students.
skot9000··on PayPal: 'Aggressive changes' coming to frozen funds policy
Having dealt (attempted to deal) with PayPal after my 10 year old account was randomly frozen, I have come to the conclusion the PayPal is run by robots. Poorly programmed robots.
skot9000··on Career Advice For Young People
"observe the older people working there. They are the future you. Do not think that you will be substantially different. Look carefully at how they spend their time at work and outside of work, because this is also almost certainly how your life will look."

thank you for this amazing tip.
