I used to give a fuck, now I give a fuck more.

skinfaxi··on Tell HN: PayPal blocks GrapheneOS
Hanlon's razor is for people. Organizations do not operate like people and do not deserve the same deference.
skinfaxi··on Tell HN: PayPal Blocks GrapheneOS
That sounds like the same info on a check, which people hand out freely. I'm probably misunderstanding.

It's not always a bad thing though is it? Like when Obama stopped federal enforcement of weed laws.

Why it's Transactional Systems for Ephemeral Tasks, don't you know? No but same here. The other pages lead to more confusion.

I think we will see the internet closed off more and more as AI usage grows.

How many mainstream Islamic jurists promote that view? You just admitted you couldn't name any.
skinfaxi··on HelloAssembly: The smallest possible complete Windows application (2021)
Yes I thought I accounted for that with my use of "some". I wasn't intending to downplay anything.
skinfaxi··on US data centers tripled annual water consumption to 17B gallons
You don't see the issues with your line of thinking? You get to absolve yourself of the responsibilities of your choice because "someone is making you" use it? How can you say you value almonds more than LLM slop when your individual choices don't reflect those values?
skinfaxi··on US data centers tripled annual water consumption to 17B gallons
How does that work in a market where you are bidding amongst other participants and capacity is constrained? Supply is limited and demand is growing, the market response is to charge more.

My how the overton window has moved. Some of violative conduct is standard practice now.

> When consumers prepared to purchase a product, additional services and products including a $9.95 back-up disc and $4.95 ‘optional extended service’ plan appeared on the check-out form. The form also listed “one free year of updates” – selected by default – but the company was then authorized to automatically charge a consumer’s credit card at the end of the year unless the buyer cancels the update plan.

A number of people in these comments, it would seem.
skinfaxi··on Credit Card Rewards Became a $9.2B Wealth Transfer
Yes that was my point. A debit card stolen from you hits harder than some numbers in a database going down when you can't pay your rent.
skinfaxi··on Credit Card Rewards Became a $9.2B Wealth Transfer
It's a world of difference if one of them gets stolen vs the other.
skinfaxi··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
Well it becomes someone else's problem, right? That kind of short-term thinking is in vogue at the moment.

Which Islamic jurists? The citation talks about stuff in 1967.

> Did Kubernetes kill Ansible? Kind of. I haven’t written an Ansible playbook in years - if you handed me one right now I’d be squinting at the module syntax like I’d never seen it before - not because configuration management stopped mattering, but because Kubernetes made server management easy enough that we stopped building our own node images at all - we just use whatever the cloud provider hands us, an AWS AMI built for us, no questions asked. And when did I last SSH into a node to debug something?

K8s did not kill Ansible because of ease. Ansible is obsolete because we moved from creating a machine and changing it to instantiating it with the changes we wanted. Ansible makes sense when you are continuously updating a server-in-place and is decidedly less useful when you spin up a new unit with the new configuration when changes are made. Even in this instance the underlying skills remain the same.

Basically https://blog.cloudflare.com/code-mode/

I was getting fed up with AWS mcp telling me it is eol.

skinfaxi··on New MCP Roadmap
> We’re starting a progressive discovery effort so a server can offer a small entry point and reveal more of its catalog as the conversation narrows.

Kind of late to the party. I've had to implement lazy loading of mcps in a couple of harnesses now but am moving to implement everything as code mode instead.

skinfaxi··on Electric shock gloves in use by police departments in Bellevue, Omaha
The polls have been pretty divisive and relatively narrow, haven't they? A tyranny of the simple majority.
skinfaxi··on I accidentally logged hundreds of thousands of phone calls to military bases
Is this a veiled reference to The Office?
skinfaxi··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
You have to ask yourself why this isn't possible anymore. Similar to how recording calls used to be possible but no longer. I don't know why it is but it is awfully strange that they keep tightening the belt on what we can do with our own devices.
skinfaxi··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
What should be the thing that it is designed to incentivize, then? Compliance with the spirit of the law?
skinfaxi··on Vomit: Clean up Claude 5's token output with a separate LLM
This seems to be a plugin with a hook to avoid having to spawn the agent yourself and to avoid seeing the initial wall of text in the output. I had to modify kilo a bit because it wasn't possible to hook into the output without displaying it, but that's probably because I am on a fairly old version.
skinfaxi··on Seed: Minimal, self-modifying agent harness
I enjoyed it, thank you for sharing and double thanks to Bluestein for surfacing it. Your point about declarative languages is interesting and mirrors my thoughts. Prompting is declarative even.

> I'd wager that's a good way to land an obstruction charge.

What are you even on about? Having a blank phone is obstruction?

skinfaxi··on Grand jury declines to indict Ohio man charged with destroying Flock camera
> A friend of mine is in the camera business and was wondering how the hell they're making the money they're making off of local and state government contracts.

The contract awards are public no? Axon et al probably make the majority of their money on service charges for storing, accessing the data rather than on the cameras themselves.

skinfaxi··on Grand jury declines to indict Ohio man charged with destroying Flock camera
Hah, as if power allows vacuums.

> Everyone who authorized this funding needs to be voted out. If we really care the signal is to take away the power of people who decided to use this.

Yes, and we should continue to nullify convictions for activists fighting this technology on the streets. If they use drones lets shoot them down and nullify those charges too. The court is the final stand and juries are where we the citizens have actual power.
