skidoo··on LIVE NOW: Glenn Greenwald, Assange, and Kim Dot Com in NZ
Truth is stranger than fiction.
skidoo··on Ask HN: Someone is harassing me online, using my personal info. What can I do?
Fight fire with fire. Find an altruistic hacker to hunt him down and make his life uncomfortable.
skidoo··on Ask HN: How can we as US citizens fix the prison system?
We can acknowledge that a giant part of a guilty verdict should entail a sacrifice of certain civil rights. No voting, no cable TV, no free college, etc. Inmates should be put to work, without pay, on repairing infrastructure projects. This would allow them to learn a trade at least, and the exercise should help improve their health- especially in terms of physically working through whatever addiction problems. Any labors should not be performed for company profit, but for the betterment of their communities. Seeing prisons as for-profit industries is a huge part of the problem. Inmates should earn their keep, literally. All of this combined would save tax-payers loads of cash.
skidoo··on For sale: Systems that can track where cellphone users go around the globe
Would have been nice if this tech applied to Malaysian flights.
skidoo··on Feedback Required: Filmmo.com the Filmmakers Business Networking Platform
Reminds me a little bit of Wreckamovie.com
skidoo··on Ask HN: Startup lawyer who will take on marijuana software startup?
I'm unsure, but I know he is very tech-savvy. More than me, frankly.
skidoo··on Ask HN: Startup lawyer who will take on marijuana software startup?
Go with Raza Lawrence. He double majored in Physics and Philosophy, and pursued Law at Harvard. He's a first cousin of mine, and actually co-wrote a sizable article on marijuana litigation for Hustler, of all places.

skidoo··on The world is spinning out of control
Don't look at me man, I voted ZOD.

But this makes me recall the line from Alan Moore-

“Yes, there is a conspiracy, indeed there are a great number of conspiracies, all tripping each other up… the main thing that I learned about conspiracy theories is that conspiracy theorists actually believe in the conspiracy because that is more comforting. The truth of the world is that it is chaotic. The truth is, that it is not the Jewish banking conspiracy, or the grey aliens, or the twelve-foot reptiloids from another dimension that are in control, the truth is far more frightening; no-one is in control, the world is rudderless.”

skidoo··on LSD, Reconsidered for Therapy
Way to go, Obamacare.
skidoo··on Ask HN: Name ideas for a new project?

skidoo··on Ask HN: What do you find most beneficial about blogging?
The groupies.
skidoo··on Tech executives to Obama: NSA spying revelations are threatening business
Billions in tax breaks says contrary.
skidoo··on What could be reason for today's bitcoin fall?
I could see many governments taking the same route as Norway's call. Bankers will feel threatened by any new currency until they figure out how to control it.
skidoo··on Ask HN: I have to write about HN in School. What topics should I cover?
Well personally, I enjoy the non-industry links the most, such as curiosities from wikipedia, youtube or elsewhere. I also appreciate the political dialogues, such as when Snowden's press release from Hong Kong was linked here before any real news agency picked up on it. So I think a segment spotlighting how the datum shared here goes well and beyond tips for hacking life would be nicely representative.
skidoo··on What the Fluck
I was just skimming the comments to see if anyone would mention Greenwald's gambit. That news honestly excited me.

And I do find it amusing how many other commenters are bothered with Curtis' unwillingness to "dumb down" his style, as that seemed to be one factor he was lamenting in his article. The lack of the spoonful of sugar should not immediately discredit the medicine's need to go down.

And for the article's core point- I still have faith in citizen journalism. It has always existed in one form or another, though it is frustrating that the ones whose soapboxes are most accepted in recent years have difficulties in exhibiting non-partisan voices. I feel that genuinely unbiased media is dependent upon the ability to resist taking sides- especially when all sides are rather dirty to begin with.

skidoo··on Clocks
Neat how the Clock 23 descrip goes right along with hexagram 23 of the I Ching.
skidoo··on Ask HN: How to unfuck the world?

Then judging by this:

The US government by its own definition is now at war with its own people.

skidoo··on You can't beat politics with new technology all the time
Personally, I don't see a need for banks at all though. It is legalized theft and nothing more. I gave up my account at the start of the 2007 bailout and have survived just fine ever since. I have never been in debt in my life either, which I do not see as being unrelated.
skidoo··on You can't beat politics with new technology all the time
I think state owned banks would be a drastic improvement to handful of old rich guys owned banks. And that's my ultimate qualm with this. I love that Sunde (and Dotcom) are entering politics more as a means to legitimacy, but in all honesty- politics is a game for the masses to shield the actual decision-making. Democracy has never worked, because the greed of the few will always win out when the authority to instigate necessary change is left up entirely to those who would lose power in the doing. Playing the game within the system wins no battles.

I'm not naive, but you did misspell "spy".

If the shoe were on the other foot, there'd be bloody hell to pay.
skidoo··on Ask HN: What makes a good book?
They are far from perfect, and I think movies tend to be far more formulaic than books. Even the suggestions on Amazon are way way off the mark, in my experience.
skidoo··on Ask HN: What makes a good book?
That is entirely a subjective thing.
skidoo··on Young adults hardly ever walk, 'because of technology'
Yes. If they really mattered to you then the odd sacrifice is not out of the question.

skidoo··on Open Data Portal - Louisville Metro Government
It wasn't so long ago when Louisville's response to being called out for having over 70,000 unserved warrants lost in their system...was to purge the system altogether. Out of sight and out of their minds.

skidoo··on Young adults hardly ever walk, 'because of technology'
No offense (seriously), but isn't making excuses a symptom of laziness?
