skidoo··on You Don’t Have to Be Smart to Be Rich
Inheritance generally has jack to do with IQ points.
skidoo··on Research into psychedelics, shut down for decades, is yielding results
My last biggie voyage also involved an anointing with Abramelin oil, and I was trying to focus on a copy of the Hermit card from a Tarot deck. By this time I was very deep into using DMT as a meditation tool, and on this occasion I was really pushing my luck.

I sat on the back deck of a cousin's cabin, fairly removed from the modern world, and a massive electrical storm was slowly gathering through the evening. For most folks I've spoken with DMT trips last 10 to 15 minutes, but for me they last hours. I'm still unsure as to whether this was due to a stronger variety of crystal we were growing, or because I was giving myself to it that much more.

Suffice to say, on that night the world around me became pulsating molecules, everything connected like neon blueprints going 3-D and contorting and revolving around themselves, extending into and beyond everything. The raindrops were merely pulses, the colors like waves flowing softly around me. It grew to be a violent storm, but the passivity I felt, especially from the benevolence of the bright Felix-the-Cat-like elves whose eyes would at times appear in the arrangements of atoms about me...I knew that no matter what happened around me, I had a strong center, strong enough to enable my survival of virtually anything. I was the only stillness in the universe.

It sounds silly, I'm sure, but I have known fear by no means and in no circumstances since that night, almost two years ago. Religion strengthens the soul for some. DMT reinforced my spine, and my faith in myself.

Facial. Tats.
skidoo··on Research into psychedelics, shut down for decades, is yielding results
I learned more about the world from DMT than in all my years of school.
skidoo··on The Pirate Bay is an FBI honeypot? A disconcertingly plausible conspiracy theory
I've always been weary of TOR, considering its origins. And I think Silk Road was co-opted ages ago.
skidoo··on Get your loved ones off Facebook
Our IRL identities are the new Intellectual Property, I think. I'm waiting for copyright attorneys to start viewing social networking infringements on privacy/security as identity theft.

skidoo··on Lords Sneak UK Internet Snooping Law into Bill
If they have nothing to hide, why not live with all doors and windows unlocked and wide open, round the clock? Why not permanently leave their keys in the ignition of their vehicles? Why not post their login info on their homepages or walls or whatever?

I tell people nothing is free, and the freer something appears, the greater the inevitable cost. And when the cost involves rights, being innocent while being on the defensive is never ever a fun ordeal.

skidoo··on You’ll Always Miss Being in the Basement
Do that without expecting financial reward, and your soapbox would hold some meaning. "Usefulness" is not synonymous for monetization. Making the world better is not synonymous for making a few people that much richer.
skidoo··on You’ll Always Miss Being in the Basement
A blacksmith could craftily forge strong chains for the slave-owner, but the potential for his skills would never be met in the doing.
skidoo··on Is e-voting a threat to Democracy?
It is when a large percentage of the population still has neither the means or interest for doing anything online.
skidoo··on You’ll Always Miss Being in the Basement
I think that something inherent but generally unacknowledged about the oxymoron that is "Creative Industry", is how Capitalism robs creativity of any and all integrity. Exploring ideas for the sake of creation, for any reason beyond money-fetishizing, is a wonderful and incomparable thing.
skidoo··on I love to see how many Apple Macs were at Obama's State of the Union
Product placement?
skidoo··on Ask HN: If an AI had slipped into the world would we notice?
Edward Snowden's inability to physically appear in public settings is suggestive, along with the headaches his actions have given to the internet power structure.

I'm kidding, of course.

skidoo··on Ask HN: Which newsletters do you think are indispensable?
Bruce Schneier. His are without fail a royal wealth of thoughtful information.
skidoo··on Ask HN: What can we do to show we don't support the response to Aaron Swartz?
When enough people stop calling in to vote on American Idol, the show will be cancelled.
skidoo··on First crowdsourced, open data address list launches in the UK
You're welcome, GCHQ.
skidoo··on Ask HN: What can we do to show we don't support the response to Aaron Swartz?
Total brushoff.
skidoo··on Ask HN: What can we do to show we don't support the response to Aaron Swartz?
Stop paying taxes, stop voting. Stop enabling the government altogether. If they refuse to accept that the people own the government, and not the other way around, then there is no reason to recognize its supposed authority. Live a moral and ethical life, but live as though the government does not exist. It will never willingly relinquish its power. You cannot change the system from the inside out. Every politician is a liar. All of this needs to be acknowledged. Rallies and demonstrations and petitions are entirely useless and wasted efforts.
skidoo··on Ask HN: How to deal with reading list overload?
I tend to set aside 2 or 3 hours each day just for reading, whether blogs/online stuff, newspapers, mags, or books. I go through a lot of books in particular, with the long-established rule of one book per week. I can fly through most books in half as long, but this system allows each work time to settle into my cranium. And I think that part is key. I want to read everything too, but you have to give yourself proper time to absorb each new thing.
skidoo··on Show HN: Trailer gods and you never miss a trailer again
For most people I would imagine it's not an issue of ever missing trailers, but more of an issue of being inundated by them.
skidoo··on Coinbase Is Tracking How Users Spend Their Bitcoins
Inevitable. If it's digital, it's even more controllable than the real thing.
skidoo··on My dad left me $7M and I have no idea what to do with it
Why the vote down? Should I ask for a handout like everyone else instead?

Yay Capitalism, yay products, yay materialism! Because all of these things have done wonders for the world thus far.

BURN IT ALL.

skidoo··on My dad left me $7M and I have no idea what to do with it
Burn it, burn all of it.
skidoo··on German researchers discover flaw that could let anyone listen to cell calls
Of course there are insecurities, but this sounds like an opening shot calling for a "new" system to allow better security, or rather, a system even more easily controlled.
skidoo··on Are apps demanding humans not to be themselves?
I have been begging for the Butlerian Jihad to begin for years.
skidoo··on Ask HN: Who's working making the world a better place?
Placing emphasis on money above and beyond anything else means yes, more than anything philanthropic. If money is the one and only end goal then everything else falls behind, and everyone loses in the long run. There is nothing neutral about conquest.
skidoo··on Ask HN: Who's working making the world a better place?
Almost as though Capitalism itself is against making the world better.
skidoo··on Ask HN: What's the current least bad solution for storing personal photos?
I have been using MEGA since its launch, and have been quite happy with the service.

skidoo··on LIVE NOW: Glenn Greenwald, Assange, and Kim Dot Com in NZ
Politics make strange bedfellows. That said, I think that ideologically, all of these men are absolutely on the same page...

of persons who will never in their lifetimes be invited to any White House gala. And good for them.
