skarz··on Picard 3.0
Man, I could be wrong, but I would venture to guess that the number of people using this has decreased massively. In my teens and 20s I remember religiously scanning my entire MP3 collection through Picard and also gleefully scanning disc IDs into the database. Haven't used MusicBrainz in over ten years at this point.
skarz··on Florida woman arrested for allegedly making threats in an AI chat
What is that page? It looks like a "tweet" on The Verge which just links to the actual story.
skarz··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
Except books are already destroyed in physical form every single day. My local library has a section near the front for free and/or extremely cheap books ($1) they are desperately trying to get rid of. My impression is that if they are untaken/unsold they will end up in a dumpster.

[Edit] Here's an article from 2003 talking about how Random House destroyed up to 25,000 books a day: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2002/mar/19/fiction.stephe...

skarz··on GPT-6 Astra
Is that hyperbole or do you know of a specific "AI website" that uses 100% of your CPU?
skarz··on .name Termination
Thank you for the clarification. Not sure if it was the author's intent but they made it sound like .name will cease to exist.
skarz··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
Perhaps, but there are certainly now catchphrases and words that can indicate it was written with AI i.e. load-bearing, idempotent, etc. Style and structure are in and of themselves, a fingerprint.
skarz··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
Does YouTube in Safari play in background/with the screen off?
skarz··on Fastpotify
But can my daughter, who has a Managed Account, use this?
skarz··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
For that, there's ProTube[1]. On the surface it behaves like YouTube Premium, under the hood it's just the mobile version of YouTube bundled into an iOS app. I have no idea why ads aren't served, I analyzed the network requests with Fiddler Everywhere and saw nothing nefarious.

do we really need breaking news about qwen posted every single day?
skarz··on Building a backyard office, the build and cost breakdown
to be honest, having to walk inside to use the bathroom or refill your cup of coffee seems like a nice way to stand up and get the blood flowing again + breathe some fresh air.

skarz··on Generative "AI": The Guitar Hero of Creativity
All of my childhood friends who bragged about being good at GH/RB only ever bragged about being good at the _games_. Never ran in to someone trying to pass it off as being able to play the guitar.

skarz··on Bring back crappy forums
If I recall correctly most forum software such as phpBB and vBulletin had an option where you could toggle between viewing a thread in nested BBS/Usenet style or the newer linear view.

skarz··on ChatGPT's image generator can be manipulated to produce violent, sexual content
Similar, but it was a very realistic looking photo of a woman in lingerie taking a selfie in a car.
skarz··on ChatGPT's image generator can be manipulated to produce violent, sexual content
I have used ChatGPT to generate HUNDREDS of photos and I have never once had it bring back violent or sexual content. It does, however, routinely reject certain requests due to me trying to incorporate copyrighted characters. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

skarz··on Stop the Apple Music app from launching
Every time I get in my car the Apple Music app prompts me to resubscribe with a full screen popup. Usually it tries 2-3 times before it stops.
skarz··on The Pirate Bay Remains Resilient, 20 Years After the Raid
Lately whenever I watch movies my remote stays in my hand so I can boost the volume during dialogue and turn it down during loud action scenes. I've had two different soundbars, one of them quite expensive, and it's an issue on both.

Is this real? I examined to their source code and found an exposed TypeScript RPC which indicates the following:

totalMembers: 4954

totalPledged: 5678872

averagePledge: 1146.320549

However the numbers on the website appear to be hardcoded in with very dramatically different numbers.

skarz··on The AI-Scraping Free-for-All Is Coming to an End
I do. I treat ChatGPT output the same as Wikipedia content. I find what I am looking for then immediately open the source to confirm. I would never in a million years take ChatGPT output or Wikipedia content and blindly reference it without doing my due diligence.
