Yes! Every. Single. Time. Apollo Client is the closest thing I have used with that works decent out of the box.
sj3k··on 70TB of Parler users’ messages, videos, and posts leaked by security researchers
You can pretty easily see for yourself they are THE bad guys. There are calls for violence and white supremacist rhetoric ever way you turn. You really have to try hard to find the non horrible parts of that site.
sj3k··on Facebook senior software engineer interview
I don't remember the fully vest time at amazon but at FB it was 4 years.
sj3k··on Facebook senior software engineer interview
Very good point and definitely something I can personally relate to.
sj3k··on Facebook senior software engineer interview
I interviewed at FB and Amazon last summer and I asked how long people stay once they are hired. At both companies I was told the average tenure is about 1.5 - 2 years. That was a big yiiiiikes moment for me. People don't stick around long enough to get promoted.
sj3k··on Facebook, Twitter block the NY Post from posting
Journalists know about metadata. You can be sure that editors of more reputable institutions absolutely require it before publishing anything.

Source I went to journalism school and worked in PR for years before I became a software developer.

So glad I see this sentiment on here. I am still blown away by HN readers inability to critically analyze news sources. If this was some research paper it would have been put under the microscope by HN readers.
sj3k··on Data structures and algorithms I actually used while working at tech companies
Last I read, the average tenure for an employee at FB is about 1.5 years... Could be different at other place.

sj3k··on Tulsi Gabbard Sues Google for Suspending Ad Account
The media analysis skills of folks on HN continue to astound. What makes you think project veritas is a credible source? Im serious.
sj3k··on Hedge funds use satellite images to beat Wall Street
A company in my town, https://www.descarteslabs.com/

> strong healthy black man rescues white woman from a bumbling and pathetic white male.

just why? every damn thread on this site these days has some racist bs.Youre projecting real hard.

sj3k··on Sandra Bland, It Turns Out, Filmed Traffic Stop Confrontation Herself
>Police get VERY nervous about non compliance and they are human beings

They are paid and trained to get over this. If a police officer is THIS nervous at a traffic stop then he/she should not be on the force.

sj3k··on Ask HN: Do You Code at Home?
Yep. I'm a slow tinkerer; mostly on the weekends for a couple hours at a time. Im trying to learn React Native and do the courses on fast.ai.

I have a hard time motivating myself to code after work if I think I won't be able to work on a project for at least a couple hours at a time. Its hard to do with a wife, friends, community stuff.

sj3k··on Elizabeth Warren Proposes Breaking Up Tech Giants Like Amazon
what lobbyists are lobbying to break up big tech companies? Not everything is propaganda.

>As I'm against CP and abuse in general, I'm also against censorship and the degradation of search engine results.

We can draw the line at CP for god sake. Why is this always the go-to in threads like this?

sj3k··on Gaming worth more than video and music combined
>Most of us believe the world being this meritocracy

I feel like I notice this more in my dev friends than my non dev friends. I wonder why?

sj3k··on YouTube Knows How to Stop Serving Toxic Videos
You are missing the point of the piece. The author is saying YouTube has the ability to not show content that is flat-out wrong and dangerous. The author is saying the same thing you are. The algorithms can be easily adjusted - but they wont be, because controversy = time on Youtube. They absolutely do not have to recommend content that would radicalize a man enough to take a rifle into a pizza parlor to free alleged child sex slaves.

This is not about setting the line about what is "offensive." this about taking responsibility for providing a huge platform for dangerous ideas to spread.

No Im not advocating for thought police but I really do think most would agree that platforms have to start taking responsibility for promoting QAnon style conspiracies and white-supremacist ideas.
