sixtyj··on Accelerating GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast
At such output speed, I wouldn’t expect reasoning. (But I didn’t know it, thanks.)

700 TPS with reasoning is awesome and it speeds things up.

Cerebras as public traded company is worth keeping an eye what they produce.

sixtyj··on Accelerating GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast
Output from Cerebras with GPT model is 750 tokens per second.

Don’t blink.

(Chatjimmy has 14,200 TPS.)

sixtyj··on How Organizations Use AI: Evidence from ChatGPT [pdf]
69 pages long.
sixtyj··on Claude users are mad that Anthropic's new watermarks will catch them using it
The reason why Anthropic did it is imho the different - they don’t want to ingest their own output again (or somehow differentiate from already stored data) so they try to sign it.

The data volume that is generated daily is staggering so every petabyte counts :)

sixtyj··on Recast uses hyper-resolution AI weather model
Recast Systems focuses on cloud seeding through a combination of hardware, biological, and software interventions. They want mitigate the effects of floods, hail, and other extreme events.

In the past 6 months they have produced a cheaper, more efficient seeding material, trained a hyper-resolution AI weather model, and operated 100+ cloud seeding flights for the governments of Texas and New Mexico.

Recast Systems is coming out of stealth.

sixtyj··on Dutch Train Map Simulator
My bad. It works on mobile but I haven’t realized I need to tap the wheel to hide control panel. OP hid it by default now.
sixtyj··on Show HN: A website for exploring historical photographs of my city
Awesome.

Any plans to make it global?

I think there is a lot of people who document (urban) landscape and would like to place their photos into map together with the view vector.

OldMapsOnline has a lot of georeferenced old map layers from around the world…

sixtyj··on Dutch Train Map Simulator
I get it. In fact, managing and debugging two versions sucks.

In such cases, you can easily implement simple device detection and display “this is desktop app only”…

sixtyj··on The hardest working font in Manhattan (2025)
600 images in the page takes time to load.
sixtyj··on Dutch Train Map Simulator
Nice.

But don’t try on mobile screen. It seems that a lot of vibe coders forget (or just skip it) to add to prompt “do a mobile version of website as well”.

sixtyj··on Show HN: Supply-Wizard; Start Selling Data with an Easy Vendor Checklist
No explanation… half-baked imho. Released too soon?
sixtyj··on CSS properties you should know for better text designs
I always tell myself that I should use backwards-compatible CSS only.

I vividly remember IE and many hacks to have css elements properly working in it…

Imho this is a reason why markdown and other rich-textual formats appeared.

Btw is there a some “w3schools” for recent CSS?

sixtyj··on Show HN: Git-knife – Edit commit messages, authors, and dates like a spreadsheet
Slicing or cutting fat is imho better ;)
sixtyj··on Grok Bot
Prompt injection is my biggest fear. Imho it is almost impossible to make a sort of tool that would be successful in detecting an injection - but maybe some antivirus/antimalware producers work on it…

The rest can be solved - separate account for agent spending (soon offered by your bank or neobank), separate email for agents (already exist) etc.

sixtyj··on Show HN: Git-knife – edit commit messages, authors, and dates like a spreadsheet
Extra points for the name.
sixtyj··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
10,000 years is too long for me ;)
sixtyj··on Closing Canario Terminal source code
I thought that GitHub supports some sort of locking repo, such as not allowing PRs? As X allows comments from accounts mentioned in tweet.
sixtyj··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
Yeah, having kids is tough call.

I was reminded of a tactic used by life insurance companies, which are more successful when they show a client a photo of themselves at age 70.

I pictured myself sitting there alone, lonely, perhaps without a wife by then (a 50/50 chance). And would I be calling friends my own age? Or my kids?

Although the likelihood that I won’t get along with them as an adult… you never know; another factor is their future partners…

Well, the kids - plus my wife, who wanted kids - won out.

But everyone has their own life, the best one they can imagine, so this is definitely not some kind of persuasion—just a description of the logical process I went through back then.

sixtyj··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
Just do it for yourself. I stopped worrying about who’s gonna use it.

20 years ago I thought that we will wait to have kids as “a war will come”. I was overthinking and I am happy now that I changed my mind :)

Is it useful or does it make you happy? Or it might even make some money? Nice. Do it. My life is easier.

sixtyj··on Half of Europe's towns and villages have fewer residents than 60 years ago
It is sad what you mention.

The commoditisation, clustering and gentrification of landscape and living is world-wide phenomenon.

At Corsica FLNC fought with bombing against hijacking of landscape by vacationers. But xenophobia solves nothing.

Revolution? Slow collapse? Some way out of the cities and back to the countryside? Idk. Time will tell.

sixtyj··on How Claude marks AI-generated content

sixtyj··on How Claude marks AI-generated content
Or grep, in a skill. /clean-cc-watermark just entered the chat…
sixtyj··on How Claude marks AI-generated content

U+2800 or U+3164 would be nice.

But as I remove unwanted characters with grep before layout in InDesign, someone will make a skill for removing such space characters.

sixtyj··on A 'bananas' order for 5000 obscure book titles fuels suspicion

sixtyj··on Parametron: 50s Japanese computer that uses neither transistors nor vacuum tubes
> In 1954, Eiichi Goto invented the parametron, a logic device leveraging nonlinear parametric oscillation with two ferrite cores. Unlike the vacuum tube and early transistor circuits prevalent at the time, the parametron offered remarkable stability, requiring minimal maintenance compared to vacuum tubes with short lifetime and costing significantly less than both vacuum tubes and nascent transistors. Its simplicity and reliability made it an ideal foundation for computer design. Early applications showcased its superior fault tolerance over competing technologies, such as vacuum tubes with relatively short-lifetime, slow electromechanical relays, and unstable point-contact transistors.
sixtyj··on Auto mode is now the default in Claude Code
Every driver thinks of themselves they are an excellent ones. Statistics has another data :)

If LLM agent wants to get out of dedicated folder where it’s supposed to work and tries to run a command, ppl should be always cautious. In fact, it is a sort of # access on live data.

Sudo/# is nice as you don’t have to ask for permissions, but I would recommend to do it only when you are fresh, fed, and not under stress.

I remember few times that I “accidentally” deleted or changed stuff I wanted to have intact… (Somebody would say that it is a skill issue :) But it was always when I was in hurry.

sixtyj··on Cool URIs Don't Change (1998)
Average time of url is 5 years.

Therefore I try to make a local copy of a document that I link to.

There a plugin for Firefox that can check bookmarked links. You will be surprised how they vanish pretty fast…

sixtyj··on How I use LLMs to learn complex topics
Game-based learning, described by Comenius, works if someone else prepares “a game” for you. E.g. like a dungeon master. :)

Otherwise you probably get more confused as you have mentioned.

On the other side, Peter Diamandis describes a situation where a bunch of kids were given a internet-connected computer and they had no teacher. Instead of it there was a “grandma” that checked kids from time to time.

After that there was a knowledge test that revealed “no teacher” approach was more efficient.

But it was a group, not an individual activity…
