sixtyj··on Hall of Shame: Documented Anti-Consumer Practices
I would add issue:

Amazon and their cross-border deleting your kindle ebooks.

sixtyj··on How to compromise your system with a job interview
It reads like a true crime story.

Bad actor had prepared the set up so precisely that Claude Code could not detect it.

Malware Bytes? Acronis? There must be some template…

sixtyj··on Don't paste the AI, please
Mail is async by nature. Read them 2-3 times a day only (you don’t check mailbox 100 times a day :) and you get things done…

I prefer to reply to an e-mail immediately. Or never. If so than archive it or delete it.

If you don’t answer immediately, you carry it as opened mind window and probability to have your mind being unable to concentrate increases over time.

sixtyj··on Risk Engineering
Nice that it is cc-commons.

Unfortunately site would need some refurbishment for mobile… slide show doesn’t show, and page is floating.

sixtyj··on AI-generated writing: it's still bad
Standard writing style is by definition something bland. And most of us sense it… it is too much sterile…

Everyone has their own writing style - and if they like it, they don’t need an LLM.

If they can’t write, then they unintentionally (mis)use LLMs, because by design they can’t spot errors so they accept the output from LLM as perfect.

sixtyj··on Woman dies, comes back to life, gets parking ticket
I would sell movie rights to cover the fine :)
sixtyj··on Everything at the CLI
Such as Wordpress installation? Making a new invoice?

That every tool or SaaS should have a TUI/CLI? I saw it today in parallel.ai - in dashboard (website) you press slash and get a list of all commands…

I would like to use keyboard only and everywhere as from mouse I have pre-carpal tunnel…

sixtyj··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
Deleted. I don’t like starting rage baits… ;)
sixtyj··on Berd
Creepy and cringe is recent mega trend. I feel like early 90s and its pseudo-cyber-punk.

Nevertheless, Berd’s homepage is like Teletubbies and Thomas The Tank Engine have babies :)

sixtyj··on How does IKEA come up with names for its products?
The exception that proves the rule :)

It reminds some system - they didn’t allow “other” category for sorting features, but someone came with “999” :)

sixtyj··on fx :Tiny, open, native coding agent.
I don’t want another coding agent. I would have to be unemployed to try all new software that pops up everywhere. :)

And every says it is the one :)

sixtyj··on Norway should buy OpenAI
Norway is participating in EU trade, but is not its member. They are part of Schengen (passport-free travel between 29 European countries).
sixtyj··on My friends all hate AI; I just joined an AI startup
Thank you for mentioning this. Tactile experience is completely different.

Manfred Spitzer and his book (2012) about digital dementia is full of proofs.

sixtyj··on I don't enjoy the Internet any more
In 90s I had a paper notebook with all websites that existed. After internet grew in size, I had a bookmarks’ file with thousands of them.

I had also a box with audio tapes.

Audio tapes are still functional. Links in bookmarks are 95 pct dead.

Internet is vanity. It was meant to be a communication tool. Now it’s some species of messy yellow pages.

On my grave, I think it won’t be written that I was a really good member of xyz bbforum :)

I would rather be remembered as a valuable member of local discussion club…

It maybe a reason why frequent internet users who remember the past, feel tired.

Appreciation on the internet is mostly fictional (not really real) and we feel it unconsciously…

sixtyj··on I don't enjoy the Internet any more
> So it's difficult to find these smaller forums and get involved with them.

Because the effort put in searching is so high that I am tired before involment.

As you say, amount of noise is too large.

sixtyj··on I don't enjoy the Internet any more
HN sans AI/LLM

sixtyj··on Open-source Mailchimp alternative on your own SES
Nice. Today I saw four open-source mailing solutions. It seems that tough part is creating and proper mass sending…
sixtyj··on How I over-engineered my book
Thief recognizes another thief… ;)

I saw myself in OP’s write up, the process is nicely described.

sixtyj··on Neo: A distraction-free word processor for authors, by a wannabe author
In description there is mention of Node.js. Is it needed to use Neo?
sixtyj··on Paperditor – a free, open-source WYSIWYG Markdown editor
Nice work. Thanks.

I would add a buffer storage for unsaved files. (Sublime Text or Zed editors have it.)

Asciidoc or typst formats would be awesome.

sixtyj··on Corgi kills short-lived website that ranked its female employees
It will be a part of some book about sleaziness - this one, mano scene, incels, Weinstein, Epstein, Catholic priests… who else?
sixtyj··on Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin
Free Chrome. /s
sixtyj··on Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin
20 years and counting. :)

Thanks for every day that this browser works.

Sometimes I had to test something in Chrome - and it’s painful experience.

But it really depends on personal view - I have tried to convert my friends and they don’t feel it.

sixtyj··on WordPress Plugin Generator with AI
This is both good and bad. :)

Good as it helps to test an idea really quickly.

Bad because Wordpress is frequent target for bad actors so using vibe-coded so probably vulnerable plugin without patches (how do you do them?) is a potential security mega hole.

sixtyj··on New DeepSeek Pricing Published (Peak and Off-Peak)
DeekSeek did a strategic b2c mistake. It is always easier to start with higher prices and give discounts than go opposite way (=raise).

But people get used to higher prices. Or they churn out.

For hobby projects there can be local or free models. There are also some caching techniques.

sixtyj··on Why Not Always OCR?
Offtopic but as it was mentioned in the text that Amazon Textract supports only few languages: Tesseract has so many languages support that I always wonder.
sixtyj··on TravelMatchr I built a matching app for travelers whose friends are never free
Nice. Love the idea behind website.

Devil’s advocate here: Unfortunately, in this world, service provider should verify hosts and check them in registers (where available). At least it gives a little sense of security.

Without safety rules web could appear on the homepage of Daily Mail.

sixtyj··on HS₂ installs a plaque 40M below London to celebrate the Brunels' legacy
That’s a nice detail:

> The plaque has been fixed to the wall of the Euston Tunnel just as it passes beneath Kensal Green Cemetery, where Sir Marc Isambard Brunel and his son, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, are buried.

sixtyj··on Accelerating GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast
Aha, thanks, that’s fresh; press release is from Aug 6

https://ir.amd.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/1296/am...

sixtyj··on Accelerating GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast
Yes, imho 14k TPS is just a beginning.
