sixQuarks··on Berlin Tesla activists say civil disobedience is only option
suppressing free speech is never good. When in history were the ones doing the censoring the good guys? The point of free speech is protecting speech you don’t like, otherwise what’s the point?
sixQuarks··on Berlin Tesla activists say civil disobedience is only option
Why would any country make it illegal to question anything? Do you think it should be illegal to question flat earth theory? Just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t mean it should be illegal.
sixQuarks··on The design philosophy of Great Tables
I totally agree with you. You should start a new library called Even Greater Tables.
sixQuarks··on Could the cosmos, in fact, be conscious?
I dont understand what you’re trying to say
sixQuarks··on Could the cosmos, in fact, be conscious?
The article is quite ridiculous for stating that the alternative theory of a Multiverse is sloppy. It didn’t really give a reason why it’s sloppy. The Multiverse theory is an elegant and simple explanation for why everything seems to be so fine tuned.

What’s more sloppy of an explanation - that the cosmos is somehow conscious and directed life to appear, or that there is an infinite number of universes?

Looking back at the history of science, when we first thought that the earth was the center of the universe, then found out that the sun is, then found out that the sun is only a small part of a huge galaxy, then to find out our galaxy is just a spec Within hundreds of billions of other galaxies. Doesn’t it make sense that the next step is to discover there are multiple universes?

sixQuarks··on Tesla's $25,000 Car Means Tossing Out the 100-Year-Old Assembly Line
I looked into it more. Caresoft CEO did an interview with Autoline and in the interview he confirmed they spent 200,000 man hours on this. Reason they put so much effort into it is because there is several Chinese companies that are paying them to learn about these methods before Tesla actually implements them.

Vehicle breakdowns is a different thing. Monroe and associates is one that breaks down a lot of electric vehicles and they say it costs about $1 million for a full breakdown.

Again, that’s a physical breakdown of a product for other companies that pay tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars for the full report. This company claimed to do a digital recreation. I don’t even know what that means.

Yeah, it's a bit confusing what they're doing that's so different. They still have to assemble everything together at the end.
sixQuarks··on Tesla's $25,000 Car Means Tossing Out the 100-Year-Old Assembly Line
From the article:

"Mathew Vachaparampil, CEO of Caresoft, an engineering and automotive benchmarking firm, said his company’s engineers spent 200,000 hours building a digital replica of Tesla’s unboxed platform"

200K hours? This can't be right. If the engineers are paid $50/hour, that is a cost of $10 million just to create a digital replica of the process?

sixQuarks··on Reddit Launches Long-Awaited IPO with $748M Target
Reddit going all out to maximize shareholder value will be the nail in the coffin of this cesspool (and I’m a 17 year user)
sixQuarks··on Elon Musk sues Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and OpenAI [pdf]
He funded it in the first place, so it could achieve AGI. Why would he want to stop that? Because the whole point of donating was to make sure it was an open sourced AGI that anyone could have access to. grok as a response to open AI going both Woke and for profit.
sixQuarks··on Inside the proton, the ‘most complicated thing you could possibly imagine’
You would think that with my username, I should know the answer. But I have no clue
sixQuarks··on Ask HN: How many of you are self employed?
Interesting, what did you work on there?
sixQuarks··on Ask HN: How many of you are self employed?
I’ve been self employed since 2004. Never really had a “real” job even before that. Started a web site in 1997 and sold it a year later for 7 figures, worked as a “cofounder” at the company that acquired, then started more sites on the side until revenue exceeded my salary and quit.
sixQuarks··on Ask HN: How many of you are self employed?
What is a creative residence?

I love arcade fire
sixQuarks··on After 34 years, someone beat Tetris [video]
Wow, practicing for 3-4 hours per day! I feel like they’re gonna be regretful for spending that much time on this later in life. I spent way too much time playing battlefield 1942, had fun but way too much time wasted.

You seem too emotionally invested for me to take your comment seriously
sixQuarks··on Creating a Disc Golf picker upper
Here's a disc golf app idea:

Film yourself in slow motion from front and back angles throwing a disc, upload the video to the app.

App then overlays you with different pros so you can see what you're doing right and wrong. You can compare angles of arms, torso, etc.

I would pay for an app like this.

sixQuarks··on Volkswagen Will Bring Back Physical Buttons in New Cars
Tesla did it prematurely because Musk was convinced FSD was close to being solved, and thus paying attention to the road wasn’t important.

People tolerated it so there is no pressure for them to change.

sixQuarks··on Air traffic controllers pushed to the brink
True, and a 68% increase in something that rarely happens isn’t as scary when you look at the actual total number of incidents.
sixQuarks··on Air traffic controllers pushed to the brink
Sounds like you’re the one making it about race. Are you saying there is not a single non white male among the veteran group?

The point is, people in this position should be hired based on merit regardless of their race, sex, or anything else.

sixQuarks··on The 1988 shooting down of Flight 655 as a user interface disaster
sorry, it's Mass Formation Hypnosis
sixQuarks··on The 1988 shooting down of Flight 655 as a user interface disaster
I don’t know how you can say that. The whole fiasco with open AI recently was a good example of how Twitter was the place where you could really stay up-to-date with everything going on. All the main players were posting there.

I love HN, but just because there wasn’t a lot of links to Twitter doesn’t mean it’s not the center of tech discussion

sixQuarks··on The 1988 shooting down of Flight 655 as a user interface disaster
But your claim is that twitter is no longer the center and many niches have migrated to Mastodon. I highly doubt this, unless you can point out an actual niche where Mastodon has more active discussions than twitter.
sixQuarks··on The 1988 shooting down of Flight 655 as a user interface disaster
Exactly, you would think people would start seeing the games being played.

Look up “mass control hypnosis” if you’ve never heard the term.

sixQuarks··on The 1988 shooting down of Flight 655 as a user interface disaster
Mastodon… lol. Is that even still alive? Are you gonna say that Threads is thriving as well?

sixQuarks··on "Et Tu, Ilya?"
What a total crock of BS. Sounds like this author is emotionally invested in Elon = Bad Man narrative.
sixQuarks··on Not Everyone Agreed with Einstein
Not only did not everyone agree with him, many people including Nikola Tesla thought he was a fraud.
