This is a really cool place to visit if you're ever passing by. We went about 1.5 hours out of our way to check it out one time and it did not disappoint.
sirbranedamuj··on Why are pedestrian deaths increasing in the US?
I don't think the author claimed to have the answer, the title is literally a question.

If there was a reason why surely it wouldn't be an issue because we would already know how to fix it.

I was hoping there would be more info about how exactly the RPi was compromised, and the steps that were taken from there.

sirbranedamuj··on Ask HN: What can we do about spam calls with spoofed numbers?
I set my voicemail to something along the following lines:

"If I don't recognize your number or was not expecting your call, I am not picking up the phone. If you need to reach me, leave a voicemail now or send me a text. Otherwise, keep calling and I'll catch on eventually."

If I'm expecting a phone call, I tend to be more willing to picking up unrecognized numbers. Otherwise, I don't pick up. If it's actually important, the person can leave me a voicemail.

Just because you don't enjoy those activities doesn't mean that they aren't respectable hobbies. You don't want to be seen as that person who has nothing to talk about but how other peoples' hobbies aren't as interesting as your own.

I would love to see an example of people using their price-gouging-acquired wealth to create a disaster relief supply chain. And that's only half sarcasm - if there are examples of people doing this and it's being reported on, I think it would be fascinating to read about. But something tells me real-life examples of this will be difficult to find.

In what reality do you think some random person on the side of the road is price gouging water bottles in order to fund an efficient supply chain to deliver bottles of water to the needy in the affected disaster area?

In what reality do you think this person isn't just pocketing the cash or using it to fund their own escape or reconstruction efforts?

>As my gear improves, I don't feel any stronger.

I don't see this as a problem. I'd rather a deep or skillful gameplay system where I get better and gear upgrades are incremental or side-grades.

"Avatar strength" is boring.

It might also mean that it's confusing and poorly designed, leading many, many of its users to ask questions about it.

It's funny that you cite CoD4 as an example of this because the first weapons and arguably the first perks are among the best in the game.

I don't know about later games in the series, but CoD4 handled sidegrades extremely well. You only ever unlocked options, not improvements. Giving players all options up front is daunting. Giving it to them in a slow trickle is fun and helps them learn things.

sirbranedamuj··on Reddit is still in turmoil
It's almost like the website is designed to let you filter out crap you don't want/care to look at. If we assume the site's self-professed label of "front-page of the internet" is correct, it shouldn't be surprising that the total of its content reflects the content of the internet as a whole.

Hate to break it to you, but porn is pretty popular on the internet at large, not just on reddit. Racist people exist, and will flock to any platform where they can freely express their shitty ideas.

Pardon the hyperbole, but your prejudice towards all users of reddit is like to claiming that all people who use the internet are closet porn addicts and KKK members.

Generalizations don't help anyone, and they make you look just as closed-minded as the racists you dislike so much.

sirbranedamuj··on Ask HN: Examples of reliable software you enjoy using
I recently discovered a new game recording software called "Loilo Game Recorder". It skimps on features, but it records games with really good quality and, so far, without any noticeable performance loss. Does exactly what it sets out to do.
