sionisrecur··on Is Trump's Push to Rename AI to Super Intelligence Part of a Bigger Conspiracy?
> rebrand AI to SI so their circle can profit from registering .si domains

I'd say that's pretty clever of them if they came up with it. That said, I'll be calling it the Slop Industry from now on.

sionisrecur··on O&O ShutUp10 – The antispy tool for Windows 10 and 11
You can also run ShutUp10 from winutil, so there's a bit of an endorsement there.
sionisrecur··on A paradigm shift in text selection
All of those require the user to then move the cursor after starting the selection (by character, word or line). The proposal is to use context to grow the selection by repeating the same shortcut, first the word, then the sentence, then the paragraph. Their audience are creative writers, not code writers so they (the audience) are probably not even aware of vim.

My only gripe with their choice of using the Shift key is that then you can't use Shift + the original shortcut to shrink the selection.

sionisrecur··on Bun 1.4
Yes, I'm fine with the AI rewrite, just don't claim it was done in 11 days when it actually took ~50.
sionisrecur··on Bun Rust rewrite: "codebase fails basic miri checks, allows for UB in safe rust"
Does all that UB exists in the Zig version as well? Was it introduced during the port?
sionisrecur··on Rewrite Bun in Rust has been merged
I wonder if projects like Ladybird will try this approach now. They've been trying to move to Rust (after trying Swift first) for a while.
sionisrecur··on Zig 0.16.0 Release Notes
The "Juicy Main" looks like a very nice QoL feature. Gets rid of all the boilerplate for allocators and argv.
sionisrecur··on RFC 454545 – Human Em Dash Standard
Personally, I configure my keyboard map to write the em–dash with alt+- and the middle dot · with alt+.
sionisrecur··on RFC 454545 – Human Em Dash Standard
I've noticed LLMs tend to use the letter "a". I propose we stop using it to show people wrote e document.
sionisrecur··on Ghostty 1.3.0

Finally!

sionisrecur··on Ask HN: What did you find out or explore today?
I was looking at the llms.txt files of some sites today and saw how straight to the point they are and started thinking I'd love to have a browser that only loads these txt files and the markdown files they link to. It reminds me of the Gemini protocol tried to do. I think I'll try to make a PoC this weekend.

A search engine for llms.txt would be great too.

sionisrecur··on Huge Binaries
A case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing?
sionisrecur··on It’s time to free JavaScript (2024)
Call it "Jay Ess". Everyone does already.
sionisrecur··on 4.3M Browsers Infected: Inside ShadyPanda's 7-Year Malware Campaign
I think in the chrome extension store you can't even change the email account attached to the extension. The only correct way to transfer an extension seems to be deleting it and having the new party create a new one.
sionisrecur··on Mercury: A VCS easier than Git
Is this related to mercurial, other than using python, or is the name just a coincidence?
sionisrecur··on Jeff Bezos creates A.I. startup where he will be co-chief executive
Is that a thing in the US? You start a company and there's no need to register it with the government? Or it gets registered but there's no public records of it?
sionisrecur··on Microsoft executive closes replies after Windows 11 "Agentic OS" backlash
They need to make 2 variants of Windows:

* One with Windows 7 level of features (with Windows 11 level security fixes).

* One with all the bells an whistles that gives product managers the feeling of having done something and justifies their raises and career advancement.

sionisrecur··on I'm making a small RPG and I need feeback regarding performance
I'd suggest getting a SteamDeck and use it as the lower limit on performance. If it runs there, it will run everywhere else.
sionisrecur··on I’m worried that they put co-pilot in Excel
That's how it starts.
sionisrecur··on I’m worried that they put co-pilot in Excel
You... could have given the job to Brenda instead, unless the irony was the point?

sionisrecur··on Live Stream from the Namib Desert
I guess that only works if you are logged in?
sionisrecur··on Live Stream from the Namib Desert
Not a live stream, but another nice channel from Namibia is Ocean Conservation Namibia: https://www.youtube.com/@OceanConservationNamibia/videos

I can spend hours watching them rescue seals.

sionisrecur··on Talk Python in Production
The dark mode still has a white background so there's no reason to have it.
sionisrecur··on The least amount of CSS for a decent looking site (2023)
Well if it's my site I want to give users choice between 2 styles.

I remember Firefox used to have an option in the menu for selecting alternative stylesheets, multiple ones not just light and dark, I think it was a standard from CSS, but only Firefox had a way to select them through the UI, for other browsers you had to use Javascript to make a selector.

sionisrecur··on Haiku Validator

sionisrecur··on Ubuntu 25.10's Rust Coreutils Is Causing Major Breakage for Some Executables
And dd is also part of coreutils. So this is still a rust-coreutils issue, or an issue in gnu-coreutils that scripts rely on.
sionisrecur··on Ubuntu 25.10's Rust Coreutils Is Causing Major Breakage for Some Executables
As expected! I wonder how many tools depend on bugs or edgecases in GNU Coreutils.
sionisrecur··on Microsoft blocks Israel’s use of its tech in mass surveillance of Palestinians
What's the protocol when a client stores data that violates their terms of service? Delete it immediately? Retain it until the client can retrieve a backup? Deny access until they sign a new contract?
sionisrecur··on Brutalita Sans: An Experimental Font and Font Editor
Same, I love the idea but the editor needs a bit of work. Moving dots, deleting dots and dragging to create new lines would be nice.

On the other hand I do like that it is low resolution so one is limited from trying to add lots of details.
