sinzone··on Handling 1M Requests per Minute with Go
Have you considered in putting KONG [1] which is basically OpenResty (nginx) in the front? With LuaJIT performances [2] are outstanding.

much faster than Ruby

Would be cool to have ES as Lua plugin for KONG [1]

sinzone··on Microservice Trade-Offs
With a small team, we've refactored more than 150k LOC from being a single app into a lot of small services and we're not looking back.

To avoid increasing complexity in managing all these APIs we have added KONG [1] on top, so we can keep higher consistency and orchestrate common functionalities among multiple services. In some ways it's funny, because KONG "centralizes" a decentralized architecture but we needed one home base to always refer to or rely on,when most of the system started to live on the edges.

In space explorations you always have a mothership after all.

sinzone··on How CloudFlare extracts a signal from 10 trillion log lines each month [video]
That is 4M requests per second. To put this in prospective, the established Akamai runs at 25M/s (http://www.akamai.com/html/technology/real-time-web-metrics....), which means that Cloudflare is quickly growing to hold 20% of Akamai traffic.

And Lua is taking off because of these reasons such as the ability to extend Nginx or HAproxy. Plus, is simple to use, easy to learn and highly efficient, without the need to touch C/C++.

The good thing about NGINX is that it's perceived as language agnostic. So no matter what your codebase lang, you can always put an nginx on top. While Node tools, are only good if you use them within a Node stack (see Strongloop). As far as I know nginx is powering 150M websites/apps.

Interesting how NGINX + Lua is becoming more and more widely used in mission critical applications with huge amount of traffic. Since the introduction of LuaJIT performances have been outstanding and many companies like Netflix, Alibaba, Cloudflare, Kong [0], Airbnb all run on a customized nginx with Lua modules; doing amazing things from security to API management.

They are good at Design as a whole. Engineering Design, Marketing Design, Interface Design, etc.

The whole thing is beautiful, from the low level of Go, up to the CSS.. it's not just a nice cover on top (like many other products)

all those help with the infrastructure part, take a look at http://github.com/mashape/kong for helping with the code.

Makes sense! Have you considered Ansible?
sinzone··on MonolithFirst
Out of curiosity, what management tool do you use to orchestrate all these microservices?
sinzone··on MonolithFirst
You may want to check KONG as open-source solution to manage microservices so you don't re-build common functionalities across the stack.

sinzone··on MonolithFirst
We started basically from scratch once again with a microservice architecture and had no problems. but failed as monolithic one for the 2 years before (and learned a lot about the tech debt).
sinzone··on MonolithFirst
This is so true in our case. We started building Mashape, the marketplace for APIs in 2011. Two years later it become +100k loc of spaghetti Java code. We started a big re-write/de-coupling phase in 2014 which also opened new business opportunities since we were able to spin off some features as single products.. and this was not expected but definitely created advantages not only from the code/productivity side but from a business side too.

We have embraced Nginx and built KONG[1] as the main API Gateway for managing our microservices. It made our transition much faster and easier since we were able to orchestrate common functionalities across services, such as logging and authentication, in a few lines of code.

[1] A month ago we've released Kong open source: https://github.com/Mashape/kong

sinzone··on Making a toy programming language in Lua, part 1
Lua is taking off at both small and larger conpanies because it allows to extend Nginx easily with custom plugins, by using OpenResty.
sinzone··on Making a toy programming language in Lua, part 1
Another interesting Lua project is Kong, which became the most popular open source API gateway http://github.com/mashape/kong
sinzone··on Scaling Wix to 60M Users – From Monolith to Microservices
Correct. Kong is Nginx on steroids (w/ Lua + Cassandra) for managing microservices.
sinzone··on Scaling Wix to 60M Users – From Monolith to Microservices
Well.. to understand the value you need to have a bit of knowledge on how microservice architectures work and why an API Gateway (like Kong, which is the most popular OSS solution for that) is a fundamental part of it. ;)

I suggest to start from here to get up to speed: http://microservices.io/patterns/apigateway.html

For now we have created http://kongdb.org - to have Kong running easily. For production use of Cassandra hosted we suggest Instaclustr.

Hi all - happy to get feedback.

Also, someone added Mockbin on Docker: https://registry.hub.docker.com/u/tomdesinto/mockbin/
