sinsterizme··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
Agreed! I found it excellent: - Relatively fast (especially compared to Opus 5) - Non-verbose prose, both in interaction and as code comments - Good code quality

Like you said, it felt very natural to work with. Opus 5 is way too slow and verbose for me, I find I get distracted and annoyed with it.

Opus 5.5 seems a LOT closer so far to what I liked about 5.6 Sol but we'll see

sinsterizme··on Feeling Sad about AI
I think most people happy with their lives find meaning in their work. There’s studies on men’s happiness in particular being predominantly based on work satisfaction

It only doesn’t make sense with our current economic framework. I think we need UBI soon or we risk having a massive crisis

Is it surprising that they’d rather make features that cater to a large portion of their user base instead of a tiny fraction of it?

I'd argue it's even more worth it for static sites, where CDNs and buckets will vastly out-perform hosting a static site on an instance yourself because of replication, caching, and geographic routing

I have the k10 he special edition! I am so happy with my purchase, I love the magnetic switches (they feel much nicer to me than mechanical), it's nice to look at, the build quality is great, and the software is really solid. Very impressed overall :)
sinsterizme··on Remote work brings hidden penalty for young professionals, study says
I think feedback is a minor point, much more important in my mind is the morale-boost you get from working in the office alongside colleagues that in my experience is completely missing from remote-work
sinsterizme··on Ask HN: How did you stop drinking?
I quit drinking a year ago because I was experiencing severe anxiety and depression and that was a part of my regiment to help myself out of the hole. I think what helps is having a goal other than just quitting. For me, that was trying to feel good again. I had some alcohol a few days ago for the first time in a year and noticed anxiety a few hours later, so now I have no desire to return to drinking.

sinsterizme··on The richer people get, the more meat they eat
That’s great for you, but it’s quite common for vegans to suffer from b12 deficiency. And that’s just a commonly tested one but meat also contains iron, taurine, creatine, and a lot more that is hard to get from non meat sources. Personally I went low meat (not even close to vegan) and suffered. My b12 was low normal, yet I definitely felt the effects.
sinsterizme··on Learning Go as a Python Developer: The Good and the Bad
Piptools [1] resolves this by having a requirements.in file where you specify your top level dependencies, doing the lookup and merging of dependency versions and then generating a requirements.txt lock file. Honestly it’s the easiest and least complex of Python’s dependency tools that just gets out of your way instead of mandating a totally separate workflow a la Poetry.

sinsterizme··on To Ruby from Python
This is very good timing for me, I just left my python dev job and am starting a job where they use Ruby. I’m very excited to be using Ruby again, it’s a much nicer language to use for a variety of reasons I can’t possibly enumerate. Ruby’s stdlib and surrounding documentation is pristine, I vividly remember being appalled when trying Python for the first time and thinking where the rest of it was. The major issue I find with Ruby (and that I saw mentioned elsewhere in this thread) are imports / requires, which is much too magical in Ruby; Python’s import is way saner
sinsterizme··on Freezing Requirements with Pip-Tools
As you discovered, the actual fix is making sure your production and development python environments match. As for platform discrepancies, docker helps with this

sinsterizme··on Potato diet community trial
I don’t think it’s quite as rare as you think. I don’t have sources to back this up at the moment but some common deficiencies include vitamin D, b12, magnesium, zinc, sulphur. Our modern practices have denuded the soil, plants and animals of a lot of their nutrients so nowadays it’s indeed hard to be at good levels of nutrients from diet
sinsterizme··on Potato diet community trial
Sure, but healthy foods contain more nutrients, that’s why they can be called healthy. So fueling your body to excess with a lot of nutrients will lead to a much better functioning body than doing the same with garbage
sinsterizme··on The brain has a ‘low-power mode’ that blunts our senses
You’re right it’s a bit harsh. I admit I don’t fully understand the reason why obese people can’t climb out of the hole they’ve dug. It’s psychological like you said but also societal (food is becoming less nutritious, as well as readily available empty caloric foods). If people lack the ethic to revert course then we need to start fixing the underlying issues causing people to overeat to such an extent in the first place.

I still think it’s helpful for people to know that their weight issues are usually fixable as long as they have the determination and desire, there’s people that do this every day and share their journey

sinsterizme··on The brain has a ‘low-power mode’ that blunts our senses
1. Ok sorry, I’m not trying to rigorously define what an illness is, I’m just saying obesity is categorically different because it’s self inflicted and reversible

2. It isn’t wrong in every situation, just in this particular one the motivating factor is lack of willpower, prioritization and education. There isn’t an “easy way” as of right now. If one comes along it will also likely carry side effects

3. Its usually ill-informed because the difficulty of dieting is a known one and steps can be taken to alleviate or bypass these issues. Usually medication with outsized effects have proportional side-effects. And we don’t always know what they are. I don’t leave out the possibility that someone could invent a pill that causes huge weight loss with little side-effects, but I would bet a lot of money against it

sinsterizme··on The brain has a ‘low-power mode’ that blunts our senses
Being fat isn’t an illness in the same sense as we normally define it. It’s a conscious decision making process that is self-inflicted. It’s lazy to turn to medication just because the real method is difficult. Most medication has side effects, deal with the root issue instead

sinsterizme··on Sleep helps process emotions
You can try experimenting with supplements. I’ve been taking l-theanine and I’ve been sleeping throughout the night now, whereas before I would wake up within 3 hours. I think my GABA levels are low which also manifests as anxiety so you can look into which neurotransmitter(s) you suspect are the issue for you and experiment accordingly.

Of course, cleaning up your lifestyle will do wonders for your neurotransmitters over the long term. Focus on diet, exercise, and reducing stress. Good luck

sinsterizme··on Faecal transplants reverse hallmarks of ageing
I agree that causality isn’t established in the human studies. But with the population studies and the mice studies where causation is established that is a strong suggestion for further research as you said. If I were a betting man I would bet a lot of money on this link though, based on my experience and these studies (and there’s more). I think you would too, to a lesser extent :)

And I’m pretty sure one of the human studies does establish causation, although I don’t have time to see which one
