This is why I've stopped buying new games. At 31 years old, I've realized that learning new things is more important than paying to entertain myself.
simook··on Angular 5.0.0
Still a fan of 1.x, not sure why they think new major versions will convince me to move forward.
simook··on Ask HN: What to do as a back-end dev and with many app ideas but can't do UX?
Frontend UX guy here: Focus on making the best damn API experience that you can. It should be restful, fast, and reliable. If you can build that, then someone like me can easily build out the visual interface.
simook··on Ask HN: Is S3 down?
yes it is.
simook··on AWS X-Ray – Distributed Tracing System
^ Confirmed
simook··on OS X DNS cache reset script
"macOS" has a tendency to cache stale DNS. But over the years they have changed the commands to flush the cache, so you end up googling how to clear the cache, checking your version of osx, and pray to the DNS gods that it will work this time.
simook··on USB power supply puts 220 Mains power out on USB jack
He's like the "Bob Ross" of electronics.
simook··on The Sugar Conspiracy
Sugar free for almost two years now and I avoid it like the plague. Really glad to see more and more articles like these.

All the naysayers should continue to eat sugar, and let nature do it's "thing".

simook··on San Francisco Tech Firms See Workers Flee from $4,500 Rents
Portland resident here. What this article doesn't cover, is now locals are victim of gentrification. Rent prices are almost 2x, out of state buyers are throwing all cash offers on houses, and overall housing supply is low... I'm sure the commercial market is just as bad.

Interesting times.

Awesome work, but what about a source repository?
simook··on Show HN: Sssaving – Are you gaining or losing money each month?
Trust is lacking. I like the idea, but aborted the getting started process once I realized the app needs access to my bank.
simook··on Ask HN: CTO with no experience, how do I make my first technical hire?
It can be hard to let go of the work you have done to let someone else pick up the torch.

And It will be tough because this is your first experience being a programmer and your code confidence will be easily shattered. But the best thing you can do to improve your product, code, and knowledge is to hire someone with more experience than you. A good CTO hires knowledgeable programmers and listens to their opinions so he can make informed decisions. If you try to protect the code you have written by hiring less experienced programmers, your product will ultimately suffer and you will eventually be let go.

Ran into several bugs when switching to a state & field.
