simianstyle··on Twitter Said To Be Abandoning Ruby on Rails
Arrington is a bag of douche.
simianstyle··on Twitter Said To Be Abandoning Ruby on Rails
Well it's getting to the point where it's like a tabloid now.
simianstyle··on Be smarter at work, slack off
Well I like where I work, but the only problem is that the old people don't believe in naps. They prefer the 9-5 mundane corporate environment despite the fact that we're a startup.
simianstyle··on Be smarter at work, slack off
Don't tell anybody this, but I always take a 15 minute nap in our break room after lunch everyday at work. It really helps me get back to focus for the rest of the day when I'm coding.
simianstyle··on Ask YC: What are starting salaries for CS grads this year?
I just graduated with a business degree, but I was hired at a startup in Boston as a Rails coder making $65K. I turned down an offer of $100k at a big corporation for obvious reasons.

I figured it's enough for me to live comfortably and continue to work on my side projects :)

simianstyle··on Ask YC: What do you think about Twine?
I followed this company when I got word that Paul Allen was investing in the semantic web, and was very interested in AI part of it. I just signed up myself for this, and I am actually pretty disappointed in the way they present and try to connect the data together. It seems like just another wiki-style site to me.

I still think that we have a ways to go in terms of moving towards a more REST-ful and semantic web. I'd love to see a new interface that can use the information on the web in a different medium.

voted you up simply for the awesome username
simianstyle··on Social Networking Goes Open Source With Insoshi
Can someone explain the difference between this and http://lovdbyless.com to me?
simianstyle··on Sharing Salary Figures on Facebook
The only other company that I know that does this is Whole Foods Stores. Each store has all the salaries listed up for all the employees to portray a completely transparent display of trust.

However, i'm not quite convinced that it works.

simianstyle··on Ask YC: Which startup is really over-hyped?
twitter
simianstyle··on Inside Dot Com: Student Lifestyle
I don't understand, don't they do load testing and profile their own code? How hard can it be to setup a single dummy server instance on some cloud computing platform and just monitor its performance as they stress test it?
simianstyle··on Orangutan attempts to hunt fish with spear
someone please take this back to reddit where it belongs
simianstyle··on Senior Yahoos To Jerry: Please, Please, Please Get This Over With
On a side note, I love how Yahoo! totally gamed their financals by laying off 2000 employees the previous month to save costs and artificially drive up their valuation.
simianstyle··on 99designs: Need something designed (logo, ...)? Crowdsource it.
I always use something similar to this: http://designoutpost.com

There's no limit on the amount of design revisions you can get - it's over when you're satisfied.

simianstyle··on The Future of Enterprise Software: I Am So Scared, I Am So Excited
Can we stop blaming Jesse Spano already? It was like over a decade ago, and it wasn't her fault!
simianstyle··on ThinkGeek now selling Optimus Maximus Keyboard (113 LCD screen keys)
You know I used to want this keyboard a lot, but now I would happily settle for one of those super thin aluminum mac ones. This isn't quite in vogue anymore.
simianstyle··on You Need Business Cards
My favorite business card is Daniel Oceans. Clean, simple, and to the point.

simianstyle··on Microsoft Acquires Farecast For $115M
I remember signing up with these guys when they first launched. To be honest I haven't used them since (due to lack of flights to certain places), but they've certainly evolved a lot since then. Congratulations are in order!
simianstyle··on I got techcrunched!
Congrats, although your logo image on the homepage is a bit distorted because you're trying to squeeze it into smaller dimensions (making the font look jagged). May want to get that cleared up.
simianstyle··on Super Mario Bros theme performed by an RC car on a row of liquid-filled bottles
i loved it, but methinks this belongs on digg
simianstyle··on Open Source Rails
Thanks, this is a helpful collection of rails resources!

A bit off topic, but is nickb really PG? The whole April fools thing went over my head.

simianstyle··on Ask YC: Who do you use to print your business cards?
My roommate works at VistaPrint, I wouldn't recommend them to ANYBODY. They employ shady tactics such as trimming a few millimeters off of each side of the card so they could fit an extra two or three in their printing presses (this also makes your card smaller than the general business card size).

Their quality is actually really shoddy as well, and the free cards all say "print at VistaPrint" on the back of them. Not to mention the fact that they go to all lengths with retention emails after you place a single order (without having the option to opt-out) to keep people ordering more. They also charge a ton of hidden fees.

In short: If you want your business card to be a serious reflection of your business, DON'T use VistaPrint.

simianstyle··on The Growth Of Collegiate Entrepreneurship
I'm just about to graduate from Babson with a degree in entrepreneurship. Not going to lie, it leaves me desiring more in the entrepreneurial field - they just don't teach it right here :(
