silent1mezzo··on Is it possible for web developer to work in a bank?
There are some banks that are focusing heavily on having a strong web presence.

Bank Simple (http://banksimple.com), they're currently looking for front-end dev's. It's possible but most large banks don't care about their web presence and most wouldn't be looking for PHP developers.

silent1mezzo··on WordPress names their 3.1 release: Reinhardt
Will Wordpress 3.2 be named Rails?
silent1mezzo··on Ask HN: How does an hacker (you) write his notes in the notebook
I categorize it into Random Thoughts, Startup Ideas and Programming snippets (things I think of for my current projects).
silent1mezzo··on Ask HN: Is TDD/BDD hampering your startup's agility?
I only start writing tests once my startups profitable and stable (if that ever happens). TDD is just not as important as getting a product out the door.
silent1mezzo··on Ask HN: Does anyone actually code at a hackathon?
I've been to several hackathons in Ontario and there's always tonnes of coding getting done. We had 19 apps one time.
silent1mezzo··on Show HN: 7courses recipe manager, updated.
Great UI, I like how easy it is to create recipes. Have you thought about allowing users to import recipes from popular sites?

I'm working on a web app similar to this one but with a different focus than just storing recipes.

silent1mezzo··on Show HN: Please critique our "landing site"
I'd drop the initial splash page and just let users get right to the landing page.

Some nit-picky things: 1. Height of your submit button doesn't match your search input 2. Button styles don't match, not a huge fan of either 3. Links along the bottom are confusing. Why does Users, Bands and Advertisers work but not Contact Us?

Overall I like it. The Watch -> Answer -> Download section is really nice.

silent1mezzo··on Results of various cheap marketing attempts
Awesome report. Especially for a startup with low funds my advice would be to start a blog and twitter account and just put high quality, relevant content out there. It doesn't hurt to notify the "celebrities" in your genre and link to your content.
silent1mezzo··on PyCon 2011: Behind the Scenes
Really wish I could go this year. I'd love to be able to network my new startup and learn new things about Python.

Its my favourite event of the year so hopefully I'll be able to go next year.

silent1mezzo··on How do I get a startup noticed?
That'd be awesome. Whats the best way to get in contact with you? You can email me at adam[ at ]dinnerplanner[ dot ]net
silent1mezzo··on Where can I meet a cool and smart co-founder in the SF Bay area?
Check out your local startup scene. Go to every event and talk to other like minded individuals. Going to conferences can also be a good way to meeting people.

silent1mezzo··on Is IE9 a modern browser?
Sadly we'll have to continue supporting inferior browsers for a long time.

Don't get me wrong, IE9 is certainly a step in the right direction for Microsoft but it still doesn't stack up. Luckily there are a lot fewer hacks needed.

silent1mezzo··on How do I get a startup noticed?
Forgot to change this from local development. Thanks.
silent1mezzo··on How do I get a startup noticed?
268 visits - 21 signups

or roughly 8%

silent1mezzo··on Ask HN: Using numbers vs. longhand in domain?
I've found that people often remember longhand domains better and those ones have more direct visits. But overall I haven't really noticed a difference.
silent1mezzo··on How do I get a startup noticed?
I added more information to the landing page. The issue isn't necessarily with the # of signups but more to do with traffic. Currently I'm converting 10% of my visitors to signups. But I'm not getting a lot of traffic.

http://dinnerplanner.net

Dinner Planner allows people to plan out their daily meals in an organized and efficient manner, share recipes with friends and even organize your grocery list (automatically). We send out daily reminders to people on what they're cooking for the night.

Tonnes of features are planned including SMS notifications, subscriptions to weekly menus, generate meal ideas based off what ingredients you currently have.

I realize there are other apps out there like this one, but to be totally honest, there aren't many good ones.

silent1mezzo··on How do I get a startup noticed?
Awesome, I'll check out those answers.
silent1mezzo··on Ask HN - Review my startup: Localmind
I don't like that you show accounts for Twitter and Google and then just say they aren't available...I understand the reasoning behind it but just show the images and don't provide links.

EDIT: On a 13" MBP the "Have an invite code" link is below the fold and was difficult to find at first.
