siidooloo··on Streets with Nooks and Crannies Are Beloved and Endangered
The big thing about Manhattan isn’t that its built in a grid, but that the shopping/offices/living are all mixed together. People are coming and going all day long. A lot of suburbs are like deserts.
siidooloo··on Hong Kong student leaders and their families face anonymous threats
They arn’t being cancelled by the government. And they arn’t speaking out for fear of being disappeared by the government.

I don’t like the US government, but there is no equivalency with China.

siidooloo··on Hong Kong student leaders and their families face anonymous threats
You don’t have time to comment, but you do have time to make this comment?
siidooloo··on Terminating Service for 8Chan
Other countries with stricter gun laws have lower murder rates. So it doesn’t follow that people will necessarily just move on to other weapons.

Also, knife crime in the UK is not higher than the US.

Yes the deaths were avoidable. We know they were because every other first world country doesn’t have this problem in anywhere the same degree.

siidooloo··on Terminating Service for 8Chan
Some people die from cancer, therefore we shouldn’t do anything about AIDs?
siidooloo··on U.S. to set up plan aimed at allowing prescription drugs from Canada
Is that US price with or without any insurance? Most countries negotiate a lower price with the drug companies the same way insurance companies do. I don’t see how Canadians negotiating a lower group price is worse then Americans paying someone to do that.
siidooloo··on Netflix CEO may have missed the real reason why US subscriber numbers plunged
sure, but how much of what you think is product placement actually is, and how much of it is just things being used in their natural context because it would be weird put something fake there.
siidooloo··on The Growing Risk of a 2020 Recession and Crisis
That’s why they’re called bubbles. Everything looks great until they burst. And you’ll likely only retroactively see why.
siidooloo··on Chinese authorities install app on phones of people entering Xinjiang
And it was successful. Half the comments are now about the West. And you have to scroll down to see any of the comments about China.
siidooloo··on Xkcd Comics in Dark Mode
I want dark mode to make the interface fade away more. I don’t really like when the content is changed with it.
siidooloo··on Mac Pro: Fooled You
Apple is now a movie studio. ... And they’re now building computers for movie studios.

The real announcements were the proress fpga, and dual chip mpx cards which most people don’t need and won’t buy.

siidooloo··on Mac Pro: Fooled You
I agree.
siidooloo··on Mac Pro: Fooled You
A mac mini plus egpu would cost less then and iMac and have roughly similar performance. And if you go with VII, or a couple VIIs would get you better performance then a specced out iMac Pro for half the money. It would requires dongele-ing things off the machine but it gets you what you want.

Edit: Apple should offer a more elegent solution, but long term this is probably where most of the market is going. Most people don’t need as big a machine any more, and egpus offer 85% of the performance. I expect we’ll end up with people increasingly buying cpu units, gpu units, hard drive units.

siidooloo··on No Kings: How Do You Make Good Decisions Efficiently in a Flat Organization?
I think you’re making this more complex then it needs to be.

There will always be sociopaths.

siidooloo··on Canada to ban keeping whales, dolphins in captivity
Many humans get killed every year in driving accidents. Every year humans continue to drive. Didn’t they remember what happened? Didn’t they communicate it to other humans? Don’t they care?
siidooloo··on Algorithm allows video editors to modify talking-head videos as if editing text
Mostly people seem to be sceptical of things they already don’t believe. If someone repeats something you believe, how much research are you going to do. So photoshopped images that reinforce your beliefs slip by, and the one that challenge you, you catch. Or worse, the ones that challenge you get labeled as photoshopped regardless of their provenance.
siidooloo··on How to Draw Animals (1930)
Books like these are what the meme is based on.
siidooloo··on Apple Pro Display XDR
I think this thing is completing against stuff like the 10 bit 4k Eizos which are also pretty expensive to use for anything other the highend graphics. They probably should have a none hdr model for half the price though.
siidooloo··on Disney Assumes Full Control of Hulu in Deal with Comcast
Disney Plus will be an add on to Hulu. It will have only the stuff a lot of people see as premium.

Look at Netflix. There’s no way to tell where any particular show fits without looking into it. Netflix needs some kind of sub branding to slit out the different niches of shows. Disney is going to get that out of the gate. And they will let just subxniches of people subscribe to just the part they want.

siidooloo··on Liquid Death sells water
But this isn’t beer. It’s water marketed as beer. That’s the hook.

Anyway, the posters point was that they thought the tite was looking down on non-drinkers. I think they were ust looking down on this product.

siidooloo··on Liquid Death sells water
Have you seen a picture of the product? The judgement has nothing to do with people being teetotal. The product is marketed at people who want to look like their drinking Some kind of ‘radical’ beer.
siidooloo··on Sandra Bland, It Turns Out, Filmed Traffic Stop Confrontation Herself
So, if a cop orders you to suck his cock you should just go along with it? Or maybe we should expect police officers to meet some kind of standard. If we let cops act like Judge Dredd then that is what we will get.
siidooloo··on The hyper-specialist shops of Berlin
I believe it’s actually the smaller malls and malls near smaller towns that are dying from oversupply. The giant warehouse style stripmalls have hurt the small malls in the exurbs. Big malls in big cities seem to still be expanding.
siidooloo··on My Billion Dollar Mistake
Someone has a job that makes them push a button every 5 minutes. They write a script so they never have to push a butten again. That person is clever and lazy. That is who you want.
siidooloo··on The Mueller Report, Searchable and Accessible on the Archive
The Russians were better at spying during the cold war. Why wouldn’t they still be?

Also, the issue isn’t just if there was ‘collusion.’ It was what they tried to do. The Trump campaign tried to work with the Russians but failed because they had no idea what they were doing. They were doing stuff like sending people’s emails to the wrong place.

siidooloo··on The Mueller Report, Searchable and Accessible on the Archive
Yeah,

A bunch of people in the White House deleted evidence and used encrypted communications. Not hypocritical at all.

The President probably committed obstruction multiple times, but Mueller refuses to Make a final judgment on that because they believe that is the job of congress.

And the campaign did try to benefit from the Russian influence campaign, and did try to obtain the stolen emails. They wanted Russias help. But there was no evidence of direct coordination (remember the deleted evidence).

This doesn’t seem like much of an ‘exoneration.’

siidooloo··on Why We Think Galaxy Folds Are Failing
But that isn’t the only problem. The part of the screen behind the hinge is exposed. It’s easy for junk to get between the screen and hinge. Then, when opening and closing the dirt presses against the screen and damages it. Once damaged the screen seems to quickly fail.
siidooloo··on The global population pyramid
I don’t see anyone else in this thread arguing that we should abandon technology and go back to nature. That seems to be an argument you’re having with yourself.
siidooloo··on [dead]
So, basically:

A bunch of people in the White House deleted evidence and used encrypted communications. Not hypocritical at all.

The President probably committed obstruction multiple times, but refuses to Make a final judgment on that because they believe that is the job of congress.

And the campaign did try to benefit from the Russian influence campaign, and did try to obtain the stolen emails. They wanted Russias help. But there was no evidence of direct coordination (remember the deleted evidence).

siidooloo··on The Samsung Galaxy Fold's display seems to have problems
Yeah, this seems like a design mistake. People stick their phones in their pockets and bags. Over time a lot of dirt and dust is going to get under that top film. If peeling/removing that film causes the screen to die, I assume garbage gettng under it won’t be good either.
