Did you just use drug abuse and vandalism to support your argument?
signalsignal··on An Open Letter To Women In Technology
If men are part of a patriarchy, I should be getting paid more money.
signalsignal··on The End of Power
Is a person in "extreme poverty" with a cell phone?
signalsignal··on Twitter’s Music App Is Real
Mainstream is where the money is at, and I think Twitter is a for-profit company, not a charity.
signalsignal··on Why Did Yahoo Buy Summly?
It was insider dealing involving a minor who's family has very powerful connections.
signalsignal··on You Can't Stop Universal From Removing Your YouTube Videos
Not if someone self hosts their video.
signalsignal··on Hello from a libc-free world
Not printing "Hello, World!" to the screen would be considered a LOGIC ERROR.
signalsignal··on Android up 13%, iOS down 7%, BlackBerry down 81% and Windows Phone up 52%
Since when did iOS have 47% market share? Also, who has ever used Kantar WorldPanel as a source?

I understand that Hacker News likes political stories mostly leans left on the political spectrum, but this story isn't true(1). Susan Ferrechio needs to update her story or put a disclaimer on it.(2)

(2) "To be clear, the RNC neither asked, offered, thought of or ever considered the idea of Lady Gaga performing at our convention. And clearly, we didn't offer a million dollars. The story is actually referencing an event by American Action Network, an independent group that is no way affiliated or connected to the Republican National Committee or Republican Convention."

signalsignal··on Ask HN: What tools do you use for mobile apps design?
Inkscape for vector files and Gimp for all other stuff. I create all my own graphics and it looks very acceptable. For repetitive work I use scripts, command line programs via MacPorts, or put together my own from Automater.
signalsignal··on Just Use Sublime Text
I actually think people who use esoteric tools are more interesting than people who think that one tool is the best. And I've been working professionally for well over a decade now.
signalsignal··on Rand Paul filibustering over drones
What do you mean by "Scared kids"? These soldiers we send into combat are adults and trained professionals. If anything they should be better able to assess a situation in combat with boots on the ground, not flying above the area thousands of meters away firing missiles.

Additionally, there is nothing stupid about what Rand Paul is doing. The American government is based on a system of checks and balances. Rand Paul is doing the job he is paid to do.

signalsignal··on What Compsci textbooks don't tell you: Real world code sucks
You're right. Alan Kay does come across as rather bitter.
signalsignal··on Tech Trends I’ve Noticed As A 16 Year Old
Very interesting, especially for me as an iOS app developer. Thanks for writing this.
signalsignal··on ITunes 11 and Colors
This is a really good copy. You appealed to the develop base of this site and made it sound like something other than a press release.
signalsignal··on The Pirate Bay Is The World’s Most Efficient Public Library
Congratulations. That's the most elitist argument I've read on the site.

Sears Craftsman Tools.
signalsignal··on Beyond App Stores: Weaving Apps into the Web
I don't know how else to put this but local, compiled apps run faster than web apps. And the problems laid out in the article are indicative of development choices, for example not being able to pick up where one left off in a local app as opposed to in a browser app in the NYT example.
signalsignal··on The TSA as we know it is dead - here's why
Never going to happen, even though I wish it would.
signalsignal··on Feudal Security
When dealing with a corporation, I can dump their services and go with a competitor. When dealing with a government, there are no competitors. You are automatically in their jurisdiction.
signalsignal··on Technology giants at war
I'm a military veteran. I've been to war. What the article is written about is not a war. It is a competition between companies in a safe and opportunistic market, which is the furthest thing from warfare and destruction that I know.
signalsignal··on What's Really Going on With Color: A Small Apple Talent Acquisition
In America everything is for sale, except people, see 13th Amendment.
signalsignal··on Github ClassicMap, Google Map tile rendering for iOS6
Hi tmcw. Two questions for clarification

1) How is the review process a sham?

2) How is the app breaking Google's TOS?

signalsignal··on US Air Force’s 1950s supersonic flying saucer declassified
They didn't keep it secret for 50 years. It even has a wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Canada_VZ-9_Avrocar
signalsignal··on Marissa Mayer: Yahoo Products Must Ship In 6 Months, Or Don't Bother
I'd wager on "beginning of the end". Shake up large projects until only the smaller, "quick wins" remain, then sell off the assets. It's easier that way from what I hear.

signalsignal··on Large Investment in OpenStreetMap from Knight Foundation
Apple wrote a software application which uses Openstreetmap and Tomtom. They don't have an actual map data set like Google does.
