signalblur··on What happened to the Snowden archive
They also published a federal whistleblowers medical history showing, and when called out on it said it was sourced from the IC.

The intercept is a joke and so are those that work there.

signalblur··on Reports of Telnet's death have been greatly exaggerated
Right? It doesn’t even make sense - on any actively updated ssh agent you’d have to go out of your way.

Also - SSH offers more than just encryption, but also data integrity - you can modify / manipulate a telnet session in ways you just can’t via SSH

signalblur··on Reports of Telnet's death have been greatly exaggerated
Greynoise and others have shell companies and spin up exposed infra specifically to pick up scanning activity.

They have them all over the world to get attackers scanning only certain regions etc.

I should also note - I’m extremely skeptical of the OPs claims or inference that the attackers have potentially fingerprinted greynoises sensors. To suggest this while some traffic increased from specific ASN’s seems unlikely that this was the case.

If it’s not clear - this was written by a competitor of theirs.

signalblur··on All-New Next Gen of UniFi Storage
Yeah I’ve used them for years - I get some people have different experiences and people occasionally get lemons but I don’t remember the last time my UniFi gear was the source of an outage that wasn’t caused by my misconfiguration.

I’ve had only a simple / reliable setup experience with a great UX

signalblur··on Python 3.14 is here. How fast is it?
Thanks for sharing this story. It goes to show how much of a difference being kind and helping a stranger can make.

Hope I'm able to do the same for someone one day :)

Yeah OpenAI signed a huge deal with them - $300 Billion

Wild - I’d love to be the sales guy who got that commission

That’s not actually true - we know for example the USS Nimitz TicTac incident happened and exists (not really a debate).

We have evidence of it happening from FLIR Camera of an F/18, an E2 Hawkeye Radar Plane, the SPY-1 Radar from the USS Princeton, the Ballistic Missile Defense system from when they were above 80,000ft

All of this data is corroborated and doesn’t appear to be up for debate - at the first UAP hearing Scott Bray the Deputy Director of Navy Intelligence said:

[Congressional staffer]: Can you provide us a specific example of an object that can’t be explained as having been human made or natural?

[Scott Bray]: I mean the example that I would say is still unresolved, that I think everyone understands quite well is the 2004 incident from [the USS] Nimitz [aircraft carrier]. We have data on that, and it simply remains unresolved…

At what point does sufficiently advanced technology become not human? I’d argue the TicTac displays that.

Otherwise you have to accept that there is a human organization with the capability of generating 10x the total sum of all Nuclear power generated in the United States in something the size of a 40ft TicTac 20 years ago

I mean - I guess it’s possible it’s human, it’s just that it’d make me incredibly sad if so considering whoever has it is letting the world burn.

Estimating Flight Characteristics of Anomalous Unidentified Aerial Vehicles

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7514271/

I just can’t imagine this being weather personally as whatever it was, starts actively Jamming the F18 (technically an act of war). If you watch the TicTac video you’ll see it when it pops to 99.9 RNG on the display

I should note - a list of everyone that has said we have this data:

* Former President Obama

* House Intel Committee Member Adam Schiff

* Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer

* Senate Armed Services Committee Member Kirsten Gillibrand

* Former DNI John Ratcliff

* Deputy Director of Navy Intelligence Scott Bray

* Senator Mitt Romney

* Senator Marco Rubio

* Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley

* Former Senate Majority Member Harry Reid

And a bunch of other house members - is someone faking a bunch of data and showing it to them?

signalblur··on Official Chrome extension to use iCloud Keychain Passwords
I wouldn’t say it’s only useful for people without vanity domain names - it also adds a level anonymity should the user database get leaked (IE: it’ll be a random HME account that will look like every other, vs your specific domain name)

Also FWIW you can use it with custom domains - I use it with fastmail and have since day one (their version of it isn’t as tightly integrated as Apple but they offer this service as well). Hope this helps!

signalblur··on SUSE Liberty Linux: secure your Linux future without fear of vendor lock-in.
I’ve been using Fedora Silverblue for about two years and recently tried MicroOS (OpenSuse Aeon) and it is really wonderful.

It’s almost identical in capability, but with MUCH less pre-installed package layered over it (IE: it comes with the Firefox flatpak pre-installed).

I enjoy that it’s a rolling release as well personally

If you’ve not seen it, I’d also recommend The Civil War on Drugs

signalblur··on Ask HN: What are some of the best documentaries you've seen?
I really enjoyed The Phenomenon if you're into UFO's - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onEXmLX2ZZQ

Also this reddit post has a bunch of old UFO documentaries going back to the 50's before there was so much "Alien" and modern Scifi out for those that are interested in the topic. Really interesting:

signalblur··on Rancher Desktop 1.0
No problem! I love it so much - it’s really simple. One thing I’d recommend is if you use vs code - to set it’s built in interpreter to use the toolbox:

https://www.carmenbianca.eu/en/post/2021-02-05-silverblue-de...

Specifically the “vscodium in a flatpak” (also of course works with the Microsoft version vscode )

signalblur··on Rancher Desktop 1.0
Isn’t that essentially what fedora Silverblue is?

It’s an immutable desktop OS where everything is ran in flatpaks/podman pods for the most part and it’s actually a really great experience.

Can play stellaris on steam with it for example with no issue.

signalblur··on PyFlow – Visual scripting framework for Python – NodeRED alternative?
Heyo! I used to do a bunch of work for a major SOAR player. I think the biggest benefit to tools like this is that it greatly reduces complexity and barrier to entry into automating various tasks allowing the SME’s that may not know how to program, to automate away their pain points with less risk of things being lost in transition while communicating with developers who may not be.

I know yaml isn’t difficult per se, but being able to visualize it can be beneficial for those that don’t normally think programmatically.

Also bonus points - the diagrams from the flows make great process diagrams for your documentation.
