In the hayday of the fediverse migration, when people left Twitter in droves, I was on their mastodon instance (then on the one for paid members, "arpa"). The instance was buckling under the load, and the federation lagging hours behind the rest of the world, when not down for hours. Then we were behind several versions of Mastodon for months because of difficulties in migrating the DB on NetBSD (which is kind of a religion there)

I remember being frustrated by the lack of communication. The sysadmin was then talking about it on the weekly openmic hour on anonradio and that was a bit better, but the rest of the support was laconic messages on bboard when people asked about updates, and silence most of the times.

The feeling I got was that there is, understandably, a hierarchy of users, and the inner circle is overworked and sometimes struggling, but also incommunicado towards the rest the of the members. Perhaps I'm not the right kind of social person, but I tried and failed to feel at home there. Maybe I misunderstood the whole project.

I still think they are great and I kept donating to it for a while even after I stopped hanging out in com and mastodon. I will maybe try again. I have to invest more human time on it.

This obviously calls for a Venn diagram. Wikipedia articles about xkcd strips about wikipedia articles?

It's what keeps me away from the fediverse... Outside it's a bit better so I lean bubble. But the training material that shapes the part of the network that activates when claude works on something technical might have negativity over-represented.

A judge Wouldn't care because that is not illegal in any way shape or form.
sig-11··on Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity
They are. They're also heating indoors up to 4x more efficiently than the best alternative. Nobody is opposing AC cooling for efficiency.

The resistence to cooling with AC comes from way before HP became popular and remains, somehow. Part of it is because it's perceived as a luxury (while heating is not), partly because being relatively uncommon until recently its surprising for some people and therefore the perceived cause of illnesses and malaise.

It'll go away. Because it's really vitally important, and because air/air HPs are perfect trojan horses to normalize AC cooling.

.. That being said, I had to call 3 companies in Germany before I even found one willing to sell me a air/air HP. And the cooling function has to be carefully ignored if you want it subsidized.

You may be thinking of sharks.

I could not get past "waste of biomass".

I usually hate when all the comments say that something is slop.

... But yeah, it's slop.

As a millenial I sure am glad for AI to be blamed for everything, instead of my generation.

Would you put watching an arm breaking contest (something I still dont know if it's made up, and don't want to research) in the "sane" category?

We're at the stage where we blame AI for anything as a first reaction?

(Love the tv pickup story. I also thought of that, in other situations)
