sidwyn··on Chrome DevTools MCP (2025)
I do something similar [1] but it leverages WebMCP (see Amazon example [2]). Could probably turn it into a strongly typed API.

sidwyn··on Browser extensions are underrated: the promise of hackable software (2019)
> Compatibility: Because extensions hook into websites in unsupported ways, updates to websites often result in extensions temporarily breaking, and extension authors scrambling to fix them.

Has anyone who's built a browser extension solved this?

The "read and change all your data" permission is a huge hurdle for our shopping extension, especially since we only need to identify shopping pages. What I've tried to build trust is to open source our tracking analytics (e.g. https://github.com/Score-Extension/score-extension-analytics...).

Hopefully transparency is one way to overcome this trust barrier.

sidwyn··on Stop using Honey to shop online
Thanks for catching that!
sidwyn··on Ask HN: Most interesting tech you built for just yourself?
Built a Chrome extension to save myself money last Christmas: https://getscore.app/chrome?ref=hn.

Ended up saving thousands of dollars for myself so far (I shop a lot online), and friends & family really love the product. We also applied to YC – so let's see how that goes!

sidwyn··on Wavve: making $76k a month turning podcasts into videos
Baird is an amazing person. I've had the chance of talking to him and seeking advice while building out my own podcasting platform (https://kyrie.fm), and he's given invaluable feedback to younger, budding entrepreneurs. Great job Baird and team! Hope to see the platform grow even larger.
sidwyn··on Ask HN: What did you build in 2019?
Kyrie.fm (https://kyrie.fm) – We help podcasters build communities around their podcast.

Right now the 'Successful' word is glaring at me for each project [0]. I'd like to see the project title instead of whether it was successful or not. Try swapping the word 'Successful' with the project title?

sidwyn··on The Apps are Too Damn Big
As an app developer myself, I've (recently) just began using ImageAlpha + ImageOptim (http://pngmini.com/) to compress all my PNG images. These really do the job better than PNGCrush (Xcode's default) and cut them down to 50% of the original size without losing much quality.

From one app developer to another, if you're adding retina assets for the new iPad like me, remember to use ImageAlpha first!

P.S. If you're unsure of its advantages, check out this case study of ImageAlpha + ImageOptim used on Tweetbot: http://imageoptim.com/tweetbot.html

sidwyn··on Sparrow for iPhone
I meant they should remove the gradual swipe, and do a full swipe once the touch moves say 30px, instead of the cell moving along with my thumb.
sidwyn··on Sparrow for iPhone
I hate the swipe function on each cell. They should do it like how Tweetie used to.
