siddbudd··on Real-SWE: Benchmarking AI models on private, real-world, enterprise codebases
havent tried that model, but it sounds like a potential harness issue. Have you tried it in different harnesses?
siddbudd··on AI Is Powerful Enough to Crack Our Hardest Math Problems–and Kill Us All
can some mod please ban this user?
siddbudd··on Bill Gates tries to install MovieMaker (2003)
I am either misreading it or it almost makes me want to work at Facebook. If only their product wouldn't be so utterly disgusting.
siddbudd··on Research acceleration: The view inside OpenAI
the term RSI is not explained anywhere on the page (I assume it stands for recursive self-improvement). Google doesnt help unless you add AI as query term.

update: I just noticed Simon commented similary. sorry for the double post

siddbudd··on Launch HN: Speko (YC S26) – OpenRouter for Voice AI
Came to check which open weights model is best right now for audio, found nothing, it seems you are just selling your services.
siddbudd··on MiMo-v2.5-Pro-UltraSpeed: 1T model with 1000 tokens per second
to try the demo you need to sign up. why? to sign up you need a password 8-16 chars. Why limit at 16? geez, I hate Chinese IT companies with a passion.

update: AFTER signing up, and only then, am I told: 'This service is not available in your region yet.'

siddbudd··on Show HN: Gemma Gem – AI model embedded in a browser – no API keys, no cloud
even Anthropic messed up LLM in a Chrome extension, not sure I would want this in my browser.
siddbudd··on Getting Claude to QA its own work
might be just me, feels too much like an ad for Skyvern
siddbudd··on Story of XZ Backdoor [video]
ah, Eastern Europe is a homogeneous slop, good to know. The 25th is only celebrated as a national holiday in like 90% of Eastern European countries. Russia and Serbia celebrate it on January 7th instead, and even that is only due to their use of the old Julian calendar. But sure, normal day in a very narrow and obscure definition of Eastern Europe.

siddbudd··on Voxtral Transcribe 2
Wired advertises this as "Ultra-Fast Translation"[^1]. A bit weird coming from a tech magazine. I hope it's just a "typo".

siddbudd··on Growing up in “404 Not Found”: China's nuclear city in the Gobi Desert
I loved the article, the translation is pretty good, too. Can you share a link to the full Chinese text with me, please? My wife is also from the Gobi desert and I think she would love to read the original version.

edit: I just found 我在404长大 [1] on douban, it seems the be the original version

siddbudd··on Show HN: Trilogy Studio, open-source browser-based SQL editor and visualizer
I tried to open the link in 2 browsers, both times the step "Establishing connection" resulted in "Dashboard Load Failed Reset operation timed out after 60 seconds"

perfectly acceptable behavior for a stage magician, maybe less for Gandalf
siddbudd··on Europe has more heat deaths per year than the United States loses to gun deaths
the source is talking about deaths per 100K population. Still an utterly ridiculous comparison.
siddbudd··on A unique sound alleviates motion sickness
The participating mice also wanted to be nice and lied to the scientists, as they kept them well fed.

siddbudd··on Anki – Powerful, intelligent flash cards
For all you people who have used Anki or other SRS for many years: how do you get over the problem of being bored by it? Or does that not happen to you?

Though I have not used Anki, I used a similar SRS for learning Chinese - the flashcards built in Pleco, but no matter how often I try to use it, I never last longer than 5-10 days, I just get bored by it. Also, no matter how I try to adjust the algo, I have the feeling that I am constantly over- or underwhelmed, no flow for me.

In the meanwhile I love learning, no matter if flashy (e.g. Duolingo) or traditional (from books) or something in between (a class), but I just never got the hang of SRS, though so many people recommend it.

siddbudd··on Please, don't force me to log in
On one hand I totally agree with hamatti, on the other hand: I just have a couple email addresses for this very purpose. These services can send me as much spam as they wish, I will never get to see it. All they get from me is a fake name and a fake email address.
siddbudd··on Show HN: EXT – an easy way to build cross-platform desktop software
1. I launched on Mac, it immediately put itself in the "Open at Login" items, almost deleted right away. I know that making this default is getting popular, I still always feel like uninstalling when that happens. Turn it off by default or at least ASK, don't make the assumption that users want this.

2. I am trying to install "JS Paint", it says "Installing" and the wheel has been turning for a minute, I have no idea what the progress is, what the download speed is, anything. Is this intended? I also cannot cancel the installation once running.

3. "JS Paint" installed eventually, I cannot launch it, nothing happens when I click "Open", other than the "Open" button animating on mouseover. Restarted EXT, still cannot open it.

siddbudd··on Terminal Trove – A collection of CLIs, TUIs and all things in the terminal
Disagree, especially in case of open source apps (which several of these are). I found one which I forked because of the language it is in.
siddbudd··on Terminal Trove – A collection of CLIs, TUIs and all things in the terminal
done. thanks! :)
siddbudd··on Terminal Trove – A collection of CLIs, TUIs and all things in the terminal
to whoever took your advice: please also add those descriptions to the by-category views (e.g. all macOS terminal tools)
siddbudd··on Terminal Trove – A collection of CLIs, TUIs and all things in the terminal
actually a thing, I use it whenever a website that I am most likely never going to visit again forces me to enter an email address, then I generate a temporary email address just to receive their email, whether it's a confirmation code, download link or whatever.

siddbudd··on Multifaceted: The linguistic echo chambers of LLMs
> develop a sense for ai text and images You can develop a sense for GPT-4, or DALL·E 3 fine, how about GPT-6 or DALL·E 5? I used to shake my head when I was a teenager and the older generation complained how fast technology is developing, when all they meant was typewriters being replaced by x86 machines, B&W television by color, landline phones by mobile. Yet, now I start to understand what they must have felt like. I can about keep up for now, but how about in 5 or 10 years from now? I don't feel so confident.
