shureluck··on (Backup!) Built an AI that brutally roasts your website designs
This is such a fun idea, love it
shureluck··on The concept of Impostor Syndrome has become ubiquitous
This is exactly right. Been seeing this a lot, especially in the last five years.

Most of my tech interview strategy has adapted to weed out candidates that are imposters.

shureluck··on The concept of Impostor Syndrome has become ubiquitous
I do not think I have ever felt imposter syndrome, in all honesty. Do most people honestly feel this?
shureluck··on Ask HN: How do you start a new career with minimal qualifications?
+1. This is a very good and well-rounded response.

I might add that for tech engineering of any type, getting a BS in Computer Science (from a reputable school) is insanely helpful in the long run if there is an interest in going further in your career and it does not lock a person into one particular track.

shureluck··on Chiastic Structure
The Hebrew use of chiasms is what first convinced me that a lot of hyperliteralist interpretations of the Torah were just ignorant.

A person cannot intentionally convert a story into a poetic structure without also distorting its literalness.

And the contemporary readers of the time would have known this as well.

shureluck··on Code-First vs. Product-First
Some useful insights for sure.

Although some programmers care about both product and code and know how to balance it: based on the budget.

Code-first programmers might have not had to face a deadline and a company running out of money. Not all of them are like this, but if you find yourself in this camp, I encourage joining a startup with some eyeballs into the finances as a way to balance that tendency to infinitely nitpick over small code details.

shureluck··on More sleep or more exercise: the best time trade-offs for children’s health
I love how the majority of modern science articles are people basically proving common sense.
shureluck··on Dating Sites Are Not Built for Men
This is one of the best summaries of this thought process I have read.
shureluck··on Dr. Seuss books deemed offensive will be delisted from eBay
Youre absolutely not alone. Im reaching a breaking point where I would not care how society treats Im bot going to let the new puritans take over.
shureluck··on Gridsort: A stable sort faster than std:sort
This is super cool!
shureluck··on [dead]
I swear the more progressive San Francisco becomes the worse and worse every aspect of life becomes in that city.
shureluck··on Why Covid-19 is more deadly in people with obesity–even if they’re young
Why has it become shameful to simply say indulging yourself with calories is a personal choice that has consequences?

It boggles my mind we need “science” to tell us this stuff that is frankly just common sense that has been beaten down by pop culture.

shureluck··on WhatsApp gives users an ultimatum: Share data with Facebook or stop using app
I moved my entire family onto it easily. But they are fairly conservative and so it simply was a matter of explaining the situation about big tech lying and they were sold.
shureluck··on Britney Spears' Guide to Semiconductor Physics (2007)
Are you a fundamentalist Christian? You kindof sound like one.
shureluck··on Show HN: I made a new GraphQL IDE – grepql, generates every queries from schema
Oh man I need this so badly, will try it out soon!
shureluck··on Twin – Tailwind with the flexibility of CSS-in-JS
I have been doing frontend dev for nearly 20 years and CSS in JS has always struck me as completely unnecessary. I have yet to see a need for any of it that doesn't introduce more problems than it solves. Do you have any examples of cases where it is needed? Im using SCSS with SSR super well. I dont get why JSS in CSS is seen as superior?
shureluck··on AstraZeneca to be exempt from Covid vaccine liability claims in most countries
Agreed, I am working in medical right now and I smell this is not good at all.
shureluck··on John Carmack on Inlined Code (2014)
Did not know this existed, but I thoroughly loved it and agree with his findings. Thanks for sharing.
shureluck··on Public Apology to Jeremy Howard
When will the general public learn that adding more rules and education simply gives ill-intentioned people more complicated ways to screw others over.
shureluck··on Public Apology to Jeremy Howard
100% agreed. If they dont mind publicly making an issue with a persons name, they should have to expose their own.
shureluck··on The New York Times' first article about Hitler's rise is stunning
100% They try to act like it isnt a propaganda piece but it is so obvious.
shureluck··on The New York Times' first article about Hitler's rise is stunning
Im not the only one who noticed.
shureluck··on The New York Times' first article about Hitler's rise is stunning
This is another one of those articles where the author is condescendingly trying to fearmonger to a segment of the US population. It is so obvious.

Lets be fair. If NYT supported Hitler, should we cancel the NYT for supporting systemic racism in the past?

Im so exhausted of these condescending and self-righteous articles.

shureluck··on Twitter still hasn't unlocked the New York Post's account
Exactly.

Although to be fair, I dont think Twitter has figured out that it is now becoming “cool” and free advertising to be blocked by them.

It is turning into a form of rebellion and “fighting against the man”. It is a badge of honor for a large segment of society right now.

Basically, being banned by Twitter is becoming free advertising.

I mean, look a this post by OP.

shureluck··on Twitter still hasn't unlocked the New York Post's account
I love the fact New York Post are leaving their account locked.

It is a better advertisement for the story, and worse for Twitter.

The irony of a giant company like Twitter falling for the Streisand effect is rich.

shureluck··on Twitter still hasn't unlocked the New York Post's account
Incredibly well put. I do truly wish that education taught debate these days.

One of the things required in debate classes is to argue for the other sides position.

I have found that most people I meet these days have never learned this ability to see things with the shoes on the other feet.

shureluck··on I am an Uighur who faced China’s concentration camps
North Koreas stories can be much worse, but typically are not found outside of religious groups like Voice of the Martyrs.
shureluck··on Twitter and Facebook's action over Joe Biden article reignites bias claims
Works for me. Ill allow it.
shureluck··on Twitter and Facebook's action over Joe Biden article reignites bias claims
If the paper is well-known for being a tabloid, they would just yawn and feel no need to block it.

And if the email is a fake one, it isnt personal information.

So why did they block it?

shureluck··on A follow up to Coinbase being a mission focused company
Ditto. This is a big reason why I left Spotify and refuse to work at Google or Facebook right now. Spotify has been turning a new leaf lately though.
