The founders of the US didn't create the two term limit. That was created in the middle of the 20th century.

What. Derivatives are a very straightforward algorithm. Integrals aren't.

You can buy a Foxconn-branded product. See http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE...

I have a barebones PC that's branded Foxconn.

shrughes··on Why do game developers prefer Windows?
Another problem is that the Linux kernel is and has been mediocre in lots of little ways that Windows is not.

Look at some older versions in the page history (see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:EnTerr/Paul_...) before the page got whittled down before some deletion attempt, and you can find quite a few.

shrughes··on Ask HN: When should you add a contributors name to a copyright notice?
Right away, or never, if they never bothered to put it in, or only if they made substantial contributions to the code. It doesn't really matter.

shrughes··on Ask HN: Smart job interviews you've experienced?
The point of view I hear, whenever I read old grouchy people insisting on a technical interview, is that if you don't have one, you'll end up hiring somebody that can sound smart when talking in a conversation but can't actually do the job. I've never actually encountered an old developer of respectable ability that is in favor of omitting technical interviews.

You say you want to know how fast a candidate learns. If somebody can't solve trivial programming problems, what does that say about how well they learn?

shrughes··on What everyone is forgetting about the Pixel
You're suffering quality problems because you went with a bad laptop. Zenbook Primes are good but other Zenbooks are not.
shrughes··on Ask HN: Hackintosh Thinkpad being used for Mac OSX developement
The macs' glossy screens seem alright to me, I'm typing on one now and was a former matte screen zeolot. They don't reflect very much. They're quite usable even when you have an open window behind you on a sunny day.

If you want to develop on multiple operating systems, well, I recommend making sure you get a CPU with VT-d. If your current machine on which virtual machines are painful doesn't have VT-d, I recommend trying one that does. (And of course, get sufficient RAM.) VMs seem painless to me, at least on the machines with VT-d that I've tried, and somewhat painful on machines without VT-d. (I experimented on the same Thinkpad enabling and disabling it in the BIOS -- the difference was clear!)

shrughes··on Ask HN: Smart job interviews you've experienced?
You say you're a fairly new programmer, so why do you even believe your own opinion, when there are plenty of people with lots more experience than you that insist on giving a technical interview?
shrughes··on Home office produces hardest workers
Usually the truth doesn't lie in the middle, especially not when opinion-havers influence one another or are otherwise infected by the same culture. Consider historical distributions of opinions on the employer/employee relationship and compare the overlap between that of today. See also http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1470261
