shriek··on Hacker News Readers as Progressive Web Apps
Yup. Polymer version doesn't seem to be showing the right content either.
shriek··on Build Yourself a Redux
The point of keeping identifiers is to show you the intents of an action. If any identifiers seem silly to be added then maybe they don't deserve to be going through reducers in the first place.
shriek··on Prettier 1.0
Most notable feature of prettier being able to format based on the wrap length. I don't know about others, but I definitely switched to it just for that feature.
shriek··on Show HN: tmuxp – session manager for tmux
I use the same but doesn't it just save only one session? This one seems to have multiple sessions based on the config that you pass.
shriek··on 40% of foreign students in the US have no close American friends on campus
This is spot on to me as well, apart from the internship. It didn't help that I don't socialize more. Public speaking was a nightmare which I thought I was speaking well but complete blank stare from the audience just added to my anxiety. To be honest, social media (reddit etc) has slowly helped me understand the culture and I like to think that I can atleast decently communicate now.
shriek··on RegExr: Learn, Build, and Test RegEx
Likewise, there's debuggex.com too to visualize your regex.
shriek··on Using Vim as a Python IDE
It can but it's not robust as sublime's multi-cursor editing. https://github.com/terryma/vim-multiple-cursors
shriek··on The State of Babel
You really don't have to use all of them of course. Pick one and that should be good for the environment that's specified there.
shriek··on Humble Book Bundle: Unix
Not sure which ebook reader you use but in Play Book there's "Night Light" which gives that f.lux-like effect. Definitely not as good as e-ink but it helps a little.
shriek··on Rust and the Future of Systems Programming [video]
I'm also in a similar boat but my primary thing being that I learn by doing and since it's branded as "system programming" I immediately think of big projects like kernels and drivers. I wish there were some small projects that I could do apart from just doing "project euler" that would be helpful to me. I even bought raspberry pi to learn rust but don't quite know what to do with it and rust.
shriek··on Benefits of using tmux – streamlining your development environment
Won't be able to answer all your questions but to enable your mouse scroll add the following to your .tmux.conf

    set -g mouse on
Likewise, to select from mouse you probably need to press "Shift" in Linux or "Fn" in Mac.

I've had more issues with Mac than in Linux with tmux tbh.

shriek··on Why we chose Vue.js
Primarily because we're gonna need webpack anyway (using it as build tool in the project) and started before create-react-app started. It's been quite a while but I still don't fully grasp webpack yet.
shriek··on Why we chose Vue.js
React alone in itself is pretty small library but the pieces that you put together to it (redux, react-router, react-redux, webpack/browserify) might be a big hurdle for beginners.
shriek··on Why we chose Vue.js
Wait, Vue doesn't need to be transpiled to JS like JSX? I'm equally hating configuring webpack. It's lack of documentation isn't helping either.
shriek··on Search Ads
I'm not even able to load the site.
shriek··on Leaflet 1.0 – A JavaScript library for mobile-friendly interactive maps
Although their docs are great some examples on the documented stuff would really be nice. I struggled a bit on some but other than that the simplicity of it is really great. Would definitely recommend for someone who's starting out on maps.
shriek··on Why Learning Angular 2 Was Excruciating
Absolutely this. While it might be tedious to put those pieces together at first the knowledge that you gain is very transferable to the other app that you build instead of being one-trick pony in angular.
shriek··on Show HN: SpaceNeovim – Spacemacs for Neovim
That cheatsheet is really well done. Thanks for that.
shriek··on Show HN: SpaceNeovim – Spacemacs for Neovim
How much of an investment is to learn vimscript? I want to write some plugins but I also don't really feel like learning it. Wish I could use different langs but from what I'm hearing I'd have to learn vimscript anyway.
shriek··on Node v6.6.0
and

  nvm reinstall-packages v6.5.0
to reinstall all your global packages from v6.5.0 or other versions.
shriek··on Visual Studio Code 1.5
I've been using YCM for autocomplete so far. How does deoplete compare with YCM if you have used that in the past. I did install term_for_vim recently but haven't really configured it much.
shriek··on Learn Node.js: A free interactive course for Node beginners
I don't understand this. How is making things easier fault of the tool? Isn't it programmer's responsibility to learn how to code than tool teaching you how to? You can program in node in lower level too. It doesn't have to always be npm install.
shriek··on Learn Node.js: A free interactive course for Node beginners
> NPM was written with the assumption that the user would have an active internet connection and the application would be packaged in the same environment in which it would be run, like someone might build for a small project with a basic manual deployment. I ran into a real-world issue attempting to distribute a Node.js application to customers who would then run it in an air-gapped environment on a platform over which I had no control. (Trivial for Java, C/C++, C#, etc). There was no way to pre-package dependency sources and then run the compilation step as a part of the installation to ensure they were built for the right architecture against the available system libraries. These days there are a few tools like npmbox, but they are poor band-aids.

You can use `file:` in your `package.json` to point to your dependencies too if you don't have Internet connection. Also, there's nothing stopping you from including `node_modules` in your project. In fact you can just copy/paste the node packages from one machine to another and have it be portable unless it's a native module.

shriek··on Building Your First Atom Plugin
I haven't tried atom for a while now but it's startup time was also something that put me off from using it on a daily basis.
shriek··on LogicJS adds logic programming to JavaScript
I wouldn't say it's that bad. A curly brace would make it a bit clearer though.
shriek··on React Server
I'd like to know the answer to this too. What I've thought so far is that I just call the function that makes db calls or other operation on the server side but this is clearly not the way do in client side if the app was to be universal.
shriek··on Research indicates that only about half of perceived friendships are mutual
Are we talking about fear of people or fear of the consequences? Because those two are completely different topics.
shriek··on Why lack of confidence can make you a better programmer
Also, getting up at 2am in the morning gets tiring after a while.
shriek··on Electron 1.0 is here
Electron saved my ass when I was trying to come up with a simple solution for non-technical people trying to get their things done. So, thank you and team for doing this. I would like to see this achieve what Java couldn't.
shriek··on Node.js ES2015/ES6 support
While I agree with you I also don't believe in adding things just for the sake of adding features. Remember, once you put a feature in a language it's going to remain in it forever and slowly the language can get bloated with lot of history in it's baggage (not that js already doesn't have this).
