shreyas056··on Hacker and physicist – a tale of "common sense"
>Now, I'm not blaming developers. Modern software engineering is built on abstraction layers, and that's actually amazing! We've gone from assembly language to high-level frameworks, from bare metal to cloud-native platforms. A developer can slap a @RestController annotation on a Java class and magically have an HTTPS endpoint without knowing anything about TLS handshakes or certificate chains.

Well, you should blame the developer if they don't know the basics of computer science (TLS handshake being the basics)

The difference here is that you know enough to ask the follow-up questions
shreyas056··on Show HN: Workout.lol – a web app to easily create a workout routine
I think this is a great tool for a long-time Gym goer who wants to quickly check out some new movements instead of what they have been doing for years, to get out of the rut. For example for the glutes and lower back I don't know many workouts, I just stick to 2-3 movements I know. I can quickly use this to just mix it up once in a while and add it to my repertoire gradually.

Yup, felt the same
shreyas056··on Ask HN: What do you do when you are lethargic?
I suggest you get tested for psychiatric diseases like Bipolar or depression. I used to have similar mood swings and a year ago I went into major depression. I consulted a psychiatrist and got diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and depression. The mood swings were due to Bipolar. Now after one year of treatment and still going, I am having less mood swings. Depression has pretty much gone away too. But general lack of motivation still persists.
shreyas056··on Django 1.8 released
Great! this is very helpful
shreyas056··on Django 1.8 released
Thanks for the explanation. So this means that Django does not support JSON or JSONB field types yet
shreyas056··on Django 1.8 released
Please help me understand this better. So HStoreField is not exactly Json field type of postgres but rather a subset of it, i.e just string->string mapping without any nesting. You cant even have key->array mapping?
shreyas056··on Can't you just turn up the volume?

shreyas056··on Are Christmas Lights in Series or Parallel?
Actually this is what I hate about such articles, they extrapolate two sentence explanation into huge corpus.
shreyas056··on How Money Moves Around The Banking System
I doubt if bitcoin really resembles RTGS; for one thing there is no central agency involved. Or may be it does if you consider distributed network of nodes which does "proof of work" for your bitcoin transaction as a Central Bank

shreyas056··on What Powers Instagram: Hundreds of Instances, Dozens of Technologies
All the zones are geographically apart so its equivalent to putting server in different cloud/colo and probability that all of them gets "blown" away simultaneously is very less.
shreyas056··on I bet you over-engineered your startup
yeah I should have said "end user experience is also important besides architecture"
shreyas056··on I bet you over-engineered your startup
And all that matters is the end user experience. Users don't care how it works as long as it works(according to their expectations).
shreyas056··on A Dust Over India
all the debate aside, lets face it India has way more social problems than most of the other countries in the world.
