shock··on Firefox Power User Keeps 7,400 Browser Tabs Open for 2 Years
Right-click on the panel, choose "Configure panel", in the resulting overlay there's a "Move tabs to this panel", click "Manage rules".

Look into the Panels feature, it has auto-move by URL regex.

The easiest way I've found to move a bunch of tabs between windows is with Sidebery. It also lets you organize tabs into panels.

That's because of the Javascript running on them. If I have a dozen youtube tabs that are not suspended my FF becomes very janky and if I look in FF task manager, sure enough, they're consuming lots of CPU. I suspend them and FF becomes snappier again.

I don't want to keep any tabs open, but I haven't found a better way for my workflow and I've tried quite a few.

My tabs fall into the following categories:

- unfinished/long running projects/topics/research: for these I use a version of the Tabs Aside! extension that I've modified, which converts them to bookmarks.

- tabs I will want to look at someday and further categorize and/or take action: for these I implemented a babashka script that when I click on an URL it fetches the page, extracts the title and displays it and asks me if I want to open it now, or save it for later in an org-file. This doesn't work, unfortunately, for URLs that I open from another FF page. For these, my long term plan involves archiving the text and doing RAG on them, as they relate to my long term interests/projects/curiosities.

- tabs I need for the actively running projects/tasks

Lol, I have 15000+ tabs across 13 windows.

You can do that with Sidebery, at least partially.

Are all your scans straight or do you also get skewed scans regularly? It's one of my disappointments with the ADS-1700W, a Xerox MFD scanner outputs all straight scans.

According to Eurostat⁰, Romania has a slightly higher(13000€) average annual full-time adjusted salary per employee than Hungary (12600€).

So we're not talking about the country, then, we're talking about the populace.

shock··on Ask HN: Any weird but healthy tips for weight gain?
> in order to physically move protein molecules into your muscle cells where they can be used to repair said tissue, you need carbohydrates

This is correct (kind of). Insulin is an anabolic hormone (makes cells build bigger things out of smaller ones) so you need to eat protein and carbs to have high enough insulin levels to build muscle. If you only want to get fat, eat lots of carbs/glucose. There are glucose bars like chocolate. For a while I used to eat a protein rich lunch and then 1kg of bananas until 6pm. I got most gains in that period.

Not a MD.

shock··on How Cloudflare verifies the code WhatsApp Web serves to users
> We urgently need better ways to demonstrate that Element Web hasn’t been tampered with in transit.

Serving the content with HTTPS ought to ensure that. What Cloudflare does with WhatsApp is to prove to facebook the user hasn't modified the code locally. This is dis-empowering the user, not protecting the user.

shock··on Tell HN: Voting on HN Fails Silently
I think I know when it happened to me: I vouched for a comment that I thought made a good logical argument, by a user who is perpetually shadow-banned (redis-something). That's a good lesson to not vouch anymore.
shock··on Tell HN: Voting on HN Fails Silently
Same in my case. At the end of the day, it's just another form of censorship. It broke the illusion I had of HN being something special and I'm glad it did. Better spend that energy elsewhere.
shock··on Mozilla and Meta (FB) are working together on “privacy” ads
I don't understand why Mozilla would do this. Clearly the image I have of Mozilla and the real Mozilla are very divergent. I guess I have stuff to figure out, like my next browser...
shock··on Mozilla and Meta (FB) are working together on “privacy” ads
This is very bad news. I don't want Facebook, or anybody else for that matter, to be able to track ads conversions.

This entitled attitude irks me to no end. I'm curious, how much of your work do you donate to others?

I would like to benefit from some of your free work, for personal use.

shock··on Do you ever avoid submitting something on HN so devs won't ruin it?
I think it's a side effect of Milton Friedman's Shareholder Primacy Theory, which people interpret in different ways, sometimes, resulting in very skewed incentives.
