shirtless_coder··on Linus Torvalds: Pearls before swine
I would be in the same boat. I actually like a lot of movies but I am so disinterested in the kind of celebrity idol worship that most are that I don't remember the names of a lot of actors/actresses.

I reserve all my idol worshipping for linus

shirtless_coder··on Is employer-based health insurance a barrier to entrepreneurship?
No one forced the employees of his company to apply. There should not be restrictions on companies like this. I don't even think there should be a minimum wage. If the employees are walking in the door, and asking for a job, then it's their choice whether to take it or not.

When you raise the minimum wage, or require the employer to provide health insurance, you are closing the door on many potential employees and definitely increasing the unemployment rate.

Employees are paid according to their value. If you are making low wages it's either what you're worth, or because you're too stupid to realize you're being exploited.

I for one think people have a right to be either worthless or stupid, and therefore do not think business should be regulated in such a way.

Yeah but how feasible is it to actually distribute an app on the market with this bundled in? Can that even be done?
shirtless_coder··on Quora Blocks Startup Search Engines
I don't blame them for doing this. They are trying to protect their assets (questions and answers). However, this is not a good move for two reasons:

1. Honoring robots.txt is optional, so this doesn't actually offer any form of asset protection.

2. They are losing serious amounts of exposure that they would reap if they'd lift this restriction so that smaller engines can find them.

shirtless_coder··on Learning Advanced JavaScript
It's sad that there are so many copy-pasters out there in the javascript world that this is called "advanced" and not introductory.
shirtless_coder··on Ask HN: Would you work at a startup that requires you to use Linux?

shirtless_coder··on The Stock Market Is Still for Suckers
What the hell do you mean gold doesn't do anything?

Gold is used by several industries. Gold is found in every cellular phone!

The reason gold is used as a metric against currencies is because its scarcity is NOT illusory. USD's scarcity is dictated by the FED. Gold's scarcity is dictated by the earth's limited supply of gold, and the socioeconomics of gold mining.

I am 100% with you, just on the basis that people aren't that obsessed with slander in general. I can see 1-2 people commenting multiple times in a malicious way, but if there are more than 2, it has to be 4chan. Normal professionals do not have the time to sit on tech crunch all day slandering former coworkers, even if they are scumbags.

With that said, I feel kind of bad for Madhu. Slander, is illegal under U.S. law. If the coward had not been anonymous he could have a court case against him.

Although I am sure he has learned his lesson about not being a flaming dick to people.

shirtless_coder··on Recent Android security hype, is just hype.
Yeah, and I totally agree with you. The problem is that this is still a human flaw. It's not a flaw with the security of android as a platform.

shirtless_coder··on Ask HN: Will there ever be an eHarmony for finding friends?
He should change the name.
shirtless_coder··on Ask HN: Will there ever be an eHarmony for finding friends?
Well there is certainly a market for it, there are a lot of lonely people, I doubt the ability of a questionnaire and algorithm to match friends together. There are too many variables.

That is not a flaw in android's security model. That is a flaw in the user.

If a salesman approached your door and said "I will own your first born child, and your boat, if you sign this contract to get a 90% discount on a time share in Bermuda" and then several people agreed, just because they didn't listen to the first part of the sentence, who's fault is this? The salesman or the 'victim'? It's the victim's fault, because he DIDN'T LISTEN, and AGREED ANYWAY.

Any lawyer (or layman for that matter) will tell you that if someone signs a contract they DON'T READ that they're still required to uphold it.

When you are installing an application and it asks you to AGREE to the application doing X,Y,Z and you say 'OK' then YOU are responsible.

No Pavlovian behaviorist hogwash is going to convince me otherwise.

And it DID request more than that. The thing is, that these wannabes like to paint themselves as "security experts", so they conceal facts and tell the story to the masses of non-techie users and scare them. Then, they sell a bogus security app.

I would much rather have this book in dead tree form. It seems like it would be great to sit on the couch with.

He has offered me shares of the company for putting in extra time, I think that might put me in a position to advise on tech.
