shironineja··on The awake ape: Why people sleep less than their primate relatives
my keys to a good (8 hour+) sleep

- exercise daily

- no food / screens 2 hours before bed

- blackout curtains

- discontinue usage of an alarm -- wake up naturally

shironineja··on Language of fungi derived from their electrical spiking activity
no offense but I think you should consider 5g of cubensis and report back after a few hours.
shironineja··on Move over CRISPR, the retrons are coming
Curious as well. I am not in the industry but searching led me to synthego.com
shironineja··on Microsoft announces Lists, a new Airtable-like app
Lists seems a lot like an existing product from Microsoft called PowerApps

https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/

That is a lot like Airtable too and has been out for a number of years.

shironineja··on Preliminary test results suggest 21% of NYC residents have Covid antibodies
So if 100% of the USA gets it at 330 M people that amounts to:

1,650,000 deaths.

It is unlikely 100% will catch it from a single wave however.

shironineja··on Show HN: A stream of AI-generated art
Isn't that something a 'bot would say.
shironineja··on Farmed salmon isn't naturally pink or red
Cheese is orange as it is also dyed that color.
shironineja··on Ask HN: Resources for blind developers and sysadmins?
I have a strong vision impairment and have tried this when Occulus first came out. I found the lag not good and became no longer interested in this problem. There are a few vendors working in this space whose hardware is slowly getting better ...

shironineja··on Cemeteries are landfills, and can contain all sorts of pollutants
Human composting is also an option:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRsopS7yTG8

Every year > 130M humans are born and >55M humans die. As mentioned in above article / video cremation isn't a very good option either as it ejects over 5,000 lbs of mercury into the atmosphere yearly.

shironineja··on Cemeteries are landfills, and can contain all sorts of pollutants
One of the proposed linked options is the Mushroom Death Suit from TED 2016. Sounds good to me:

shironineja··on Microplastics found in 90 percent of table salt
I do not think it outside the realm of possibility that we will some day contain plastic-eating gut bacteria.

Mealworms and waxworms have gained this ability:

shironineja··on Microplastics found in 90 percent of table salt
It is pervasive in our ecosystem. There is no escaping microplastics if you are part of the human experience.

It is in the air you breathe:

I wonder about our insect friends who have been recently disappearing:

It comes down to liability in the event of an unsuccessful lawsuit:

Sole proprietorship - your personal assets may also be taken

Incorporation - only business assets are generally liable if insured accordingly

Corporations were formed so that trading merchants and ship captains didn't have to pay out when their lucrative expeditions killed off sailors and handlers.

shironineja··on Show HN: Deploy a Go Lambda to Ping a Site in 20 Seconds
The lambda doesn't have a schedule within because doing so would split the concerns poorly; rather you would hit this lambda on your own schedule.
shironineja··on Chinese police don high-tech glasses to nab suspects
OK. Did you find these SDK?

http://ai.baidu.com/sdk#bfr

from there you will need to still sign-up via their free tier via dreaded portal for API key:

https://console.bce.baidu.com/ai/?fromai=1#/ai/face/overview...

Apparently "立即注册" means "Sign up now"! So you will have to go through that and lovingly translate each field. If you right-click in Chrome and click Inspect on a textbox you will see they have English names for their control namess (like name="userName") ... lol.

shironineja··on Training an AI to convert design mockups into HTML and CSS
This is what we are all working for. If we can automate the stupid stuff we do then we can work on other interesting stuff and automate it too.

I don't understand why we aren't all working on automating everything that we do.

Every line of code you pulled out of the code mine today is finite and given a business logic rule engine it's outcome could have been generated.

shironineja··on Can staying awake beat depression?
Hmm what could people do while trying to stay awake? I know how about some light exercise dancing to some music you enjoy or even don't enjoy but rather go out just to learn about it.

Maybe there are other anti-depression techniques out there as well?

This is why we need Hang the DJ.
shironineja··on Vandals smash beehives, killing 500k bees
This is a thoughtless crime which obviously fills one with outrage on multiple levels. I trust in the Iowa state police to locate the offenders.
shironineja··on 130M-year-old nest of dinosaur eggs discovered in China
Of course! Don't your eggs have scales?

Actually no it looks like that article has some other photo. Other news sites have more detailed pictures / videos without scales on eggs.
