sheperd209··on Ask HN: Advice for turning my side project into a real business
20+ year old reader

I guess as an engineer, building the product itself seems to be the easy part. How do you market it, find potential customers, or indeed KNOW at all that your product is a winning one?

Obviously uncertainty is a part of every entrepreneur, but I would love to get opinions from fellow engineers

sheperd209··on Ask HN: Is Elon Musk right about firing 85% of Twitter engineers?
yup, you've taken words right out of my mouth. I am just curious what was the output of the 85% of engineers that were fired. Mind you, among them were ver senior/director level, so it wasn't just college graduates and middle managers

I hear you, but Twitter has been adding new features, no? They introduced community notes, video streaming capabilities etc...
sheperd209··on It happened to me today: $80/hr writer replaced with ChatGPT
That's how you see it? It's bullshit because AI at this time can reproduce it?

You seriously you are not at risk for the exact same problem, down the line?

Do Software engineers/Developers really feel they are safe here?

Maybe the top dogs who are working on groundbreaking stuff, but as a normal backend/DevOps dude, I am fucking terrified.

sheperd209··on ask HN: How is psychology not bullshit?
So does sales techniques.

I bet there are lots of salesmen who are effective without a psychology degree. Yet one would not call an effective salesman a scientist.

I'm just continuing to play the devil's advocate here, appreciate your input :)

sheperd209··on Ask HN: Who are the most engaging writers / bloggers in (Dev/Ops/SEC) Tech?
Hey as an aside, is there any money/interest in technical writing/blogging in highly technical fields such as DevOps?

I am a noob through and through in the field, work as a devOps engineer in my day job, but I'm wondering if there would be any ways of generating a side income as a technical writer
