shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: As a developer, what's your worst habit?
Mine is updating software as soon as they are available.
shekhardesigner··on The more senior your job title, the more you need to keep a journal (2017)
My personal choice for markdown notes is https://github.com/glushchenko/fsnotes
shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (July 2020)
Email bounces on london-talent@tray.io
shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: How does your company manage its encryption keys?
I didn't know about envwarden till you mentioned it here.

We migrated from bitwarden to offline client machine for the reason that we didn't wanted a copy of our encryption key be available anywhere else online.

shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: How does your company manage its encryption keys?
We keep the encryption key stored in plain text files on client offline machine.

Catch: Client machine is encypted with VeraCrypt. Veracript hidden drives, one password is kept by product owner and another password is kept by head of security.

Offline client machine is key for us.

We rotate encryption keys after quarterly security audit.

shekhardesigner··on Show HN: I made a website to help you track the conronavirus outbreak
What's the source of data? I have been trying to track my country (Nepal) but no luck and you seem to have the data about us. Can you share data source details?
shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: What book changed your life in 2019?
Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall.

This book gave me broader prospective in understanding geopolitics in a way I have never thought before.

After reading this book, I see world and global event differently, my biased opinion about many countries have changed.

shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: Books you plan to read in 2020?
These are on my list:

Five Dysfuncitons of a Team: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21343.The_Five_Dysfuncti...

The Advantage: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12975375-the-advantage

shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: Anyone here wanna collab on a SaaS project
Let's discuss about ZeroMeetings.com?, I have an idea and prototype about this and the solution offering for market audience.
shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: What is the simplest and most flexible way to build a CRUD app in 2019?
SailsJS Blueprint API are still my favorite. https://sailsjs.com/documentation/concepts/blueprints
shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: Why can’t I follow or favorite a HN user?
I would argue that follow/fav will turn HN into a other kinds of social media?

You want to hear/read interesting topics, comments and voice your opinion. While reading the favorite person's comment is really good, I don't limiy myself to that.

I normally go to NEW tab rather than just home page and to ASK tab occasionnaly.

Follow/Fav might just ruin my homefeed making me bias.

shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: With paywalls everywhere now where do you get your news?
Nothing beats the actual newspaper (online or paper) in comparision to radio or television if you ask me.

Reading your description, radio/tv wont fullfil the optiniated and analytical part unless you spend good amount of time on specific programs like talk shows or interviews.

AppleNews subscription might do some good?

shekhardesigner··on ICE has kept British family with their 3-month-old baby detained for days
If only ICE/CBP could release the video where they caught them trespassing.

Feels like the family wants to gain emotional support through three months old child saga.

I side solely with ICE in this particular case, that they didn't simply offer a 'Return back' option. Common, if ICE starts to do that - there will be a handful flux of people giving it a try hoping that if they were caught - they can simply return back.

Expecting a catered service in the detention center is overboard. Government run facilities, over-crowded all the time, they got a family detention center, not an ordinary one itself should make them feel safer. I am assuming the British family is trying to use the white privilege.

Whole 16K cash in hand story and two families blah blah - there is way more to the story.

shekhardesigner··on Podcast for Engineering Managers
There was a delay in the Apple podcast approval, available now - https://podcasts.apple.com/hu/podcast/level-up-engineering/i...

Other apps/platforms are still reviewing the submission as per the maker. https://www.producthunt.com/posts/level-up-engineering-podca...

shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: Do you know any nice open-source projects in need of SE or design work?
How about adding few nicer themes for Thunderbird Mail client.

The client seriously lacks good UX. Not just sleek UI but the interaction and better usability.

shekhardesigner··on Don't Track Your Phone, if it gets stolen; you might get arrested !
When you loose possession if any private property, first thing to fo is file a report with police asap. Get a copy of report.

Whether your Facebook/Email is hacked or phone lost/stolen. First report ensures immunity from any illegal activities done after you file your report.

In this case, you should have been to police first and then take them with you.

shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: Is AMP Dead?
It surely will and it should.

Here is link my friend texted me about a news: `https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/10/12/sp...

Notice, she was sending me a link of NYTimes.com not Google.com. AMP has highjacked the content. I did fair bit of research and learning on AMP before deciding not to offer it to my consulting clients and also made company wide policy to refuse the service.

Not just web, AMP, and Google for that matter is also trying hard to push into Email domain. Aside from monopoly - this technology brings intrusive mechanism for many unintended parties.

shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: Is it difficult to hire React developers?
I would agree to it being difficult. I have been struggling to recruit few good React/(and/Or) JavaScript Developers for my startup.

Few reasons I have come to realist are:

- React devs make more money on freelance gig than full-time jobs.

- Readily available more jobs than candidates on the market. If I offer $X00K/y, there are others who are always ready to pay more as counter offer.

- React landscape is moving faster than any other technologies out there, putting devs who are up to date on the edge.

I have also started training the new hires who were interested. But as the fate will have it, after learning ReactJS and other few things - most developers left for better salary.

The fact is, I am situated in Nepal and can only pay using Nepalese Rupees salary doesn't help much.

shekhardesigner··on Privacytools.io: Hypothetical possibility of using affiliate/referral links
I am rather thinking that, let us say "App XYZ" is super secure and PrivacyTools lists them without affiliation.

Later after sometime if App XYZ offers affiliate, why would they pay PrivacyTools since the app is listed free anyway?

If anything - PrivacyTools should expect donations, not affiliated or marketing revenue.

And I honestly think - they can also go in the direction of having a minimal monthly subscription fee.

shekhardesigner··on Privacytools.io: Hypothetical possibility of using affiliate/referral links
If Brave or any similar service is worth of being listed on privacytools.io - Why would they spend and provide you with the affiliated money? After all - if this team finds the software in matter, a valuable to be added, you will add it anyway.

Taking affiliate will result in loosing the trust I have, honestly.

shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: Sharing equity with cofounders while I fund it 100%
In total, we are just three cofounders. I have set aside 15% for employee stock and rest 90% to be divided by contribution based.

As of now the company incorporation is solely on my name hence I own 100% shares. None of my cofounders are too pushy.

I want to split in on fair contribution basis.

shekhardesigner··on Apple removes game after Chinese company cloned, trademarked, requested takedown
My bad,

@mastazi, If you have trademarks over EU, US - why not start a petition and let community help you bring down Apple to reinstate you?

shekhardesigner··on Apple removes game after Chinese company cloned, trademarked, requested takedown
Feels like a lesson to be learned. You invent first - trademark it first as well.

I wonder if the original game developer was in watch mode while all these trademarks over EU, US and China was granted.

shekhardesigner··on Apple removes game after Chinese company cloned, trademarked, requested takedown
You are in loss of $200 to $300 a day? if that's just a loss what's your revenue? It must be very good unless I am missing something here.

YOU SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN YOUR TRADEMARK first. You invented the game, hard worked and put it out there FIRST.

I dont think getting a Trademark would have cost you fortune.

shekhardesigner··on Ask HN: Some good engineering blogs that go through the design process?
My personal favorites are Ebay Engineering Blog - https://www.ebayinc.com/stories/blogs/tech/

And Toptal blog.
