Very cool! Does anyone know of such OSS tools collection for Windows? Desperately looking for some good solution for a server I run for a small office.
shekhar101··on Show HN: MutableAI (YC W22) – Copilot Alternative for VS Code
Yes, something like that. Even a thumbs up, or down or a way to let you know that the suggestions didn't work for me.
shekhar101··on Show HN: MutableAI (YC W22) – Copilot Alternative for VS Code
Is there a way to provide feedback for each suggestion in the editor?
shekhar101··on Show HN: MutableAI (YC W22) – Copilot Alternative for VS Code
Congrats on the launch and really want this to succeed. I think I write too many trivial code that can be replaced by AI like this - like writing simple auth stuff or json parsing logic etc in my projects. However, I just installed it in VS Code and tried it in my Django project.

Feedback:

1. I like the refractoring suggestions. Really cool and had some awesome suggestions right off the bat.

2. I tried to give instructions to write a method and it simply failed. I tried something like: "write a method to parse json object and parse non-zero values from it". All it did was add a method called parseJson(json) with pass as body :( I tried a few different variations to get a method written by mutable but got nothing except new lines.

Anyway, wish you the success. I would love to see more players in this space. I feel a strong need for this kind of AI that can supplement my day to day coding .

Sort of related - the website design is beautiful. So clean and to the point. I checked the source and it's Tailwind :) Very well executed and a great inspiration me to look into source code for my own designs.
shekhar101··on System76 Pangolin Linux-first laptop with AMD internals now in stock
I really appreciate how affordable upgrades (RAM, Storage etc) are. I am not used to it. Apple adds a hefty premium on these upgrades (I understand this is not a 1:1 comparison). Configuration looks really solid and affordable!

Hi, also curious how you integrated WhatsApp messages to user for confirmation? Is it business api and is the pricing an issue? (I’m in India too and think WhatsApp api is a bit expensive especially for a use case where I initiated the messaging like in your case)
shekhar101··on Linux Toolbox
This is fantastic! Tangentially related but I'd really like to learn such byte sized stuff about Linux and Linux tools. Anyone has any nice resources I, a grown up, can refer to?
shekhar101··on Restic – Backups Done Right
Tangentially related but I’ll lay out a problem I have for a small office I run. I want to backup and sync my files cheaply somewhere, say GDrive. I want a Uzi that gives me snapshot/versions of files it backed up. Is there a good open source solution for this? Restic and friends are a little too technical for my non-technical office. Thanks
shekhar101··on Practice Sight-Reading Music
Thank you for making this! This is the best find for me this whole week. I have been learning keyboard and one things I really missed was having a place like this to practice sheet music and learning to sightread music. There are tons of expensive/paid service but nothing beats this. This is perfect. This along with https://www.musictheory.net/lessons is enough for me to learn most things I need. :)
shekhar101··on Hello Go
Slightly OT, but I really want to learn golang but the amount of available resources[0] makes it quite overwhelming. I don't want to learn simple stuff but also want to go along the basics and learn good coding practice and design patterns. Any recommendations? What's your favorite resource for learning golang that helped you the most? [0]: https://github.com/golang/go/wiki/Learn

I would pay a decent amount of money, if a tool/service can get me this: drag and drop bootstrap website designer that let's me export the code to plug in to my backend. It's so frustrating to not have something like this for someone who's completely incapable of UI design. Does someone know of a service like this/
shekhar101··on Is WhatsApp down?
My point was, the account was taken by someone a day ago. And I am pretty sure Jan Koum would not be commenting on HN article at the time of a massive outage in WhatsApp. It may be him, but very unlikely. My 2 cents.
shekhar101··on Is WhatsApp down?
Back online in US (Bay Area). Waiting for the post-mortem now.
shekhar101··on Is WhatsApp down?
Account created a day ago. Is it really Jan Koum?
shekhar101··on Freedom in the world 2016
I always knew this, but seeing this on a graph is still surprising. A huge swatch of world populatin (60%) is either not 'free' or 'partly-free'.
shekhar101··on India's Misguided War on Cash
Thanks. BTW, what conspiracy are you talking about?
shekhar101··on India's Misguided War on Cash
What nobody is talking about here, is that this step also aims to hit hard on the fake currency [0] industry in neighboring countries, specially Pakistan and Nepal. The new dimension and design of the note is to make the printing machines in these illegal mints obsolete. It's no surprise that the 2 month long 'agitation' in Kashmir came to a screeching halt this week. This step hits funding of terrorism in India hard, at least temporarily.

shekhar101··on The rectangularness of countries
I read somewhere that manmade boundaries can be clearly identified. They are mostly straight lines on maps. It makes more sense after reading this article. This is the reason why so many African countries have such sharp boundaries. Colony masters divided them amongst themselves, ignoring natural resource division, people and ethnicity of new countries. This has led to so many conflicts among these countries as well. I might be wrong, but I think this happened to middle-east as well.

It actually does. The course is designed to get in details of challenges in cloud provisioning like designing Load Balancer.

Currently taking this course. I don't know if I am allowed to share material online. Although all of these papers are well known papers in Cloud Computing. You can search for them online for open/free access. EDIT: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~15719/readinglist.html
shekhar101··on Wine 1.8 is released
Great work by Wine team. I use Wine for a lot of Windows application but I could never make Office (2010 and later) work on Ubuntu. If I can somehow do that, probably I would never switch back to Windows. Open Office/Libre office is frustrating and so are most online word replacements.

shekhar101··on Ask HN: Most hacker friendly laptop on the market?
For some reason I cannot find Dell XPS developer edition with Ubuntu. Dell redirects me to the page that has same laptop but with Windows installed. I hate it :/ Is it discontinued?
shekhar101··on SpaceProbes
So proud to see MOM/Mangalayan there. People in India are very proud of achievements of our space agency ISRO. It' one govt owned org that is in the right hands and is doing wonders. Only yesterday, it took heaviest payload by Indian spacecraft and placed 5 UK satellites in Orbit. All this despite being on shoe string budget.
shekhar101··on Steve Huffman, the new CEO of Reddit on AMA
>No. I know she was well-loved by many moderators, and I'm very sorry at how everything played out. It could have been handled much better. However, she was let go for specific reasons, which I obviously will not share, and we will stand by that decision.

Pretty honest, rather than beating around the bush.
