sheeshkebab··on Google CEO says more than a quarter of the company's new code is created by AI
and it shows… Google codebases I see in the wild are the worst - jumbled mess of hard to read code.
sheeshkebab··on Rawdrawandroid – Build Android apps without any Java, in C and Make
Honestly the whole java/kotlin tooling is the worst to pick for mobile dev, and KEEP it after so many other great languages and tools that are out there. I don’t why google didn’t offer at least Go as a native alternative for android dev.
sheeshkebab··on Verso – Web browser built on top of the Servo web engine
Swift is useless outside of macOS/iOS dev… the thing doesn’t even have namespacing. I don’t know for what reason someone would use it outside for Apple environment.
sheeshkebab··on AI's $600B Question
Maybe Musk will show to all how it’s done starting with robotaxis, however looking at current state I wouldn’t bet on it, at least not anytime in near future. Buying more gpus will definitely not be the thing that solves this.
sheeshkebab··on AI's $600B Question
The only thing AI needs to do to demonstrate its value is replacing jobs at scale. Until it happens, it’s all capex and opex bs and hobby projects.
sheeshkebab··on Getting 50% (SoTA) on Arc-AGI with GPT-4o
Show me a test and I’ll show you a neural network that passes it… used to be an saying.
sheeshkebab··on Trying out the panel-of-experts prompting strategy for LLMs
In your head. You just make some new weird shit up and try it to see if it works any better than the previous shit you made up.
sheeshkebab··on Ilya Sutskever to leave OpenAI
epic… and not a single of these “experts” likely can solve even a basic goat problem https://x.com/svpino/status/1790624957380342151
sheeshkebab··on Ilya Sutskever to leave OpenAI

sheeshkebab··on BYD is launching its next-gen Blade EV battery – more range and even lower cost
The article is written with errors and sounds like it was created by a bot, complemented with some fake quotes… I guess the battery is ok or is the point here to push BYD cars?
sheeshkebab··on The Obscene Energy Demands of A.I
it seems you can add fluff to existing projects with this round of AI but replacing labor that goes into dealing with the core of the tasks not so much.

I’m not sure gen ai even helps with increasing productivity yet - since tons of existing tools and services do all the same things without having much of this ai (ai chatbot better than a web search? gimme a break…)

sheeshkebab··on The Obscene Energy Demands of A.I
What labor did the current AI save yet? All I see so far is billions or even trillions in capex for stuff that barely works…
sheeshkebab··on Governor of Amazonas wants to charge Amazon royalties for use of the brand
And they should
sheeshkebab··on How deep is the brain? The shallow brain hypothesis
Why then all the talk about AGI when fundamentals don’t even allow for it to emerge.
sheeshkebab··on How deep is the brain? The shallow brain hypothesis
It’s indeed odd that current dnn’s require massive amount of energy to retrain and lack any kind of practical continuous adaptation and learning.
sheeshkebab··on The Problem with Jon Stewart cancellation highlights a problem for Apple content
Jon should have stuck to comedy… there is a lot of angry news shows as it is.
sheeshkebab··on AGI's impact on Tech, SaaS valuations
It feels like math issue is solvable, so are an all the other more precise engineering type things (even basic calculators can do all that). Yes, it’s early and but it seems like llms are on the right path this time, and what the article describes is achievable.

What the author I think is missing is if they can automate s/w engineering with this, by that time all other existing office work will largely be automated as well. Whether it really happens in our lifetimes is debatable.

sheeshkebab··on TimeGPT-1
Oh yeah? I guess you never day traded..
sheeshkebab··on ChatGPT Enterprise
Fedramp? High?
sheeshkebab··on No one wants to talk to your chatbot
No one wants to talk to a chatbot.
sheeshkebab··on Microsoft Owns the Trademark for “X”
Elon is a genius
sheeshkebab··on I am dying of squamous cell carcinoma, and potential treatments are out of reach
Get rid of prescription requirement too - who needs to see a doc for extra $500 when I can go and pick my own med, and possibly better one.
sheeshkebab··on Computer chip with built-in human brain tissue gets military funding
Quite some lofty goals for $400k investment… supplanting silicon chips no less
sheeshkebab··on PdfGptIndexer: Indexing and searching PDF text data using GPT-2 and FAISS
Amen, local first should be the default for anything that sucks all my data.

Although until these things can do my laundry none of them deserve any of my compute time either.

sheeshkebab··on If PEP 703 is accepted, Meta can commit three engineer-years to no-GIL CPython
20+ years later, and billions of lines or python code later, the GIL discussion is still there. Kind of an amazing mess of a problem… mainly shows the priority of python being a ducktape type solution from the start.
sheeshkebab··on Nvidia DGX GH200: 100 Terabyte GPU Memory System
But can it play Doom?
sheeshkebab··on Superintelligence: An idea that eats smart people (2016)
The important part about current ai craze is that it’s the first realized approach that somewhat resembles all the theories, fantasies, and bull shit about it. Can it eventually lead to superintelligence? it seems like it’s stepping in the right direction - and we’ll know soon enough if it’s another dead end (possibly even within few short years… which is a great leap from time scales of decades until recently)
sheeshkebab··on Rodney Brooks on GPT-4
Anytime I ask these things something (bard, gpt etc), 33% of the answer is genius, 33% misleading garbage, 33% filler stuff that’s neither here or there

The problem is distinguishing between these parts requires me to be be an expert in the area I’m inquiring about - and then why the heck do I need to ask some idiot bot for answers to questions that I already know an answer to?

I don’t know who finds these things useful and more importantly blowing smoke up everyone’s collective rear, especially medias.

sheeshkebab··on De-dollarization is happening at a ‘stunning’ pace
