shaunregenbaum··on Why Recursion Pharmaceuticals abandoned cell painting for brightfield imaging
Do you guys have high hopes for video data? Were there early results that showed promise for kinetic data?
shaunregenbaum··on 'Maya blue': The mystery dye recreated two centuries after it was lost
Reminds of the rediscovery of Tekhelet in Israel.

shaunregenbaum··on Diffusion Is Spectral Autoregression
This was a fascinating read. I wonder if anyone has done an analysis on the FT structures of various types of data from molecular structures to time series data. Are all domains different, or do they share patterns?
shaunregenbaum··on SAM 2: Segment Anything in Images and Videos
Very excited to give it a try, SAM has had great performance in Biology applications.
shaunregenbaum··on Populist anger is 'a gift wrapped in barbed wire' (2016)
Great article
shaunregenbaum··on Code is run more than read
I would imagine trying to compare a purely imaginary number (3i) to a real number (3) would suffice.
shaunregenbaum··on Occluding Contour Breakthroughs, Part 1: A Surprisingly Hard Problem
This was a surprisingly great read, especially Part 2.
shaunregenbaum··on SoftBank-backed pizza startup shuts down after raising $445M
What did people expect?
shaunregenbaum··on Nanoplastic Ingestion Causes Neurological Deficits
Tap water contains about 1.67–2.08 ug/ml of nanoplastics on the larger side (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S00139...)

So this article was working with concentrations 10x larger on mice (usually worse ability to filter). Beyond that, they admitted that microplastics did not induce an effect which is most of the plastics found in the ocean, etc...

shaunregenbaum··on SuperFlare: Framework for Cloudflare Workers
Not associated with the project, just thought it was really cool.
shaunregenbaum··on Could the Next Blockbuster Drug Be Lab-Rat Free?

shaunregenbaum··on Could the Next Blockbuster Drug Be Lab-Rat Free?
I work in this industry if anyone is interested in learning more :)
shaunregenbaum··on Proof of solvency and beyond
None of this addresses the consumer issue. You need to display this information to users and they need to both understand it and trust it. That is what the current system has.
shaunregenbaum··on Spacedrive – a cross-platform file explorer, powered by a distributed filesystem
This is genius. Why didn't Dropbox do this?
shaunregenbaum··on SolidJS 12k Hackathon
For those who don't know, SolidJS is an alternative front-end framework that should feel super intuitive for anyone who has worked with React. It is faster, smaller, and better (my objective personal opinion). There is some cool stuff going on under the hood, and Ryan Carniato (who started it), is a wizard. So if you have ever struggled with useEffect and other React hooks (so everyone), you should give it a try.
shaunregenbaum··on SolidJS 12k Hackathon
Its pretty cool how active open source communities are getting, I would love to see what people come up with. (Full disclosure: I am involved with SolidJS and wanna see OSS projects thrive!)
shaunregenbaum··on Square Is Rebranding to Block
In fact the Georgia Tech Network (which I am using right now) actually blocks their website because it flags .xyz domains as malicious.
shaunregenbaum··on Square Is Rebranding to Block
I find it hilarious, this is probably why Jack left Twitter, he obviously has bigger plans with Square. But also, the domain is block.xyz. Could he not get the .com domain?
shaunregenbaum··on 4Privacy – Zero Knowledge, open source data storage/sharing platform
This is backed by smarter every day on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMtrY6lbjcY
shaunregenbaum··on World’s first lab-grown meat facility pumps out 5k burgers per day
I would say that's quite ridiculous. While the serum is very important when experimenting, later on the goal is to grow the cells serum-free (from what I understand). These types of cells would die from any high exposure to petroleum...
shaunregenbaum··on World’s first lab-grown meat facility pumps out 5k burgers per day
I haven't tried it personally (I worked in a different part of the lab), but I've been told that its pretty indistinguishable from ground chicken/beef.
shaunregenbaum··on World’s first lab-grown meat facility pumps out 5k burgers per day
Future Meat is focused on ground meat/chicken products. There are other companies in Israel focused on more refined products, check out Aleph Farms. More refined products are wildly more expensive though as you can't easily grow it in vats.
shaunregenbaum··on World’s first lab-grown meat facility pumps out 5k burgers per day
The main IP in the lab is replicating the fat + other stuff in meat. It compares to average ground beef by design.
shaunregenbaum··on World’s first lab-grown meat facility pumps out 5k burgers per day
I worked in this lab! Would be glad to answer questions.
shaunregenbaum··on New type of ancient human discovered in Israel
The research was published in Science. If you want their evidence, look at where they actually published it.
shaunregenbaum··on World’s first cultured meat-production plant opens in Israel
I worked in this lab (on a different project)!
shaunregenbaum··on Ask HN: An Email for Newsletters?
Is this on gmail? Where are there automatic rules?
shaunregenbaum··on Google Docs will now use canvas based rendering
So Google is betting on Flutter's ethos of canvas rendering for everything. I really hope this doesn't catch on. If Figma, a design tool, doesnt need to use canvases, then neither does Google Docs.
shaunregenbaum··on Tissue-on-a-Chip Research and the Drug Development Process Explained
Hello everyone, I'm an undergrad at Georgia Tech, who recently had my first paper published in [Science](https://stm.sciencemag.org/content/13/582/eabd6299). I wanted to make the paper as accessible as possible, thus I wrote a layman's explanation of the implications. Let me know what y'all think!
