shasa··on Show HN: TweetLength- sometimes 140 characters are not enough
Well, I didnt want the user to move away from the site ( twitter). Otherwise we can use link to any site that allows to save text and generate generate links to it.
shasa··on Show HN: TweetLength- sometimes 140 characters are not enough
Tweet@Length allows users to tweet more than 140 characters in their tweets. The additional text is converted into an image and posted with the tweet. Therefore, the users do not need to split their message across different tweets while posting.

Tweet@Length unlike other solutions does not require the users to move to another site to read the tweet because the image is automatically converted into twitter compatible image size and is readable from the twitter client itself.

You can log into the website http://tweetatlength.com with your twitter account and take it for a spin.

shasa··on Ask HN: What'd you do to get your first 100 users?
Back in Dec 2012, when we were planning to launch TripTern we were bootstrapped and didn't have any money for marketing. So we relied heavily on Facebook for promotion. One thing that we used to spread the word was to create promotional material based on movie posters ( see the links below). It helped us in getting the initial signups and also was instrumental in us getting featured on Mashable.

However, at current difficulty 42coin is 10 times more profitable than Bitcoin.
shasa··on '42Coin' Is Less Than Two Weeks Old And One Coin Is Worth More Than A Bitcoin
I think someone just created the coin as a response to DogeCoin. There are supposed to be 100billion dogecoins and this hacker went the opposite way to create 42 ( limited) number of coins.

shasa··on Nate Silver Doesn’t Like Twitter Data.
The problem with social media is low information to noise ratio and given the sheer amount data available it becomes quite difficult to mine the relevant information. Also the rapid pace at which new information enters the system makes the task much more tedious. The media and other sources in their quest to provide news at the earliest more often than not compromise on the accuracy and/or authenticity of the news. And finally the verification issue, last week who would have thought that the AP news on white house attack was a hoax (due to account hacking) and not a true.

Hi All,

We have released the beta version of our trip planning solution, Trip Tern and would like to have your feedback/inputs on the current design and how to make the solution even better. It is an initial version so you might see some bugs ( apologies in advance and please let us know about it) We are covering about 12 cities in this version and some of the features that we have added are

a. You can now select hotels, duration, interest and attractions that you want to visit before planning the trip. After logging through Facebook b. You can save trips in your profile c. Browse Friends' trips albums (picked from Facebook) on your trip Tern profile page. d. Browse all the places of interest/attractions from the travel guides.

We are a three member team working on this for a few months now. The solution might not be perfect but would appreciate inputs/feedback on the same. Will definitely add them in then next release.

shasa··on Infographic: 1.36 years lost in planning a trip
I think you are referring about the data for the number of trips undertaken by an average user. It is just a statistic based on total number of trips/ sample size. No one is actually taking a half trip.
shasa··on Infographic: 1.36 years lost in planning a trip
We would be taking some inputs from the user eg. city , number of days, interest ( art ,culture , night life ), budget. We then consider these inputs and use some of our such as ranking of places of interest, opening closing time, distance between two places. Keeping all these in mind we prepare the optimal itinerary for the user. We are also working on integrating the social aspect i.e. sharing trips with friends, saving you trip history etc.
shasa··on Infographic: 1.36 years lost in planning a trip
We found that an average traveler plans about 10 trips in an year and spends almost 30 hrs in preparation ( travelers visit about 22+ website and numerous friends just to prepare a trip) We have been working for 4 months to create an automatic trip planner which can prepare a custom travel itinerary for travelers in a couple of seconds. We have now completed the planning logic and working towards a release next month. We are looking for some suggestions/feedbacks from the hacker news community so that released version comes out as a better product. http://demo.triptern.com shows the basic algorithm working with some key features missing. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Site : demo.triptern.com
