i actually think, now might be a good time to join a company after prices dropped.
i have to try it now. After reading the free postgres and last mile redis blog post, i realized something...
I can use probably the most under-used cache stores rails provides: the file_store, which is twice as fast as trying to read from a memcache/redis process. This was not even an option on heroku b/c of the ephemeral file system.
After reading the OP, the tradeoffs seems more complex than a single origin in us-east and having CDNs cache HTML pages.
The most appealing advantage I see with running rails at all these regions is you can authenticate users really quickly and redirect them to a html page in a CDN.
i’m currently architecting a rails app to have global users. turbo with http seems perfect to save bandwidth and fine tuned caching configurations… i might have to look at how/when the response is stripped from the frames.

Some companies doing a 4-day work week still measure themselves against the 5-day/40hr work week, which feels suboptimal and not the point.
I'd bet in a world where a 4-day work week was normal, then I'd bet there'd be a similar ask HN to start a 3-day work week advocacy org.
don’t rely on interviewing people to test yourself. you have to practice talking or writing and stop settling with the feeling that you just learned something and will have the judgement to know when to use xyz when problem abc comes in front of you.
i built enumerable.co so that i can evaluate myself, to practice producing the knowledge i’m consuming, and reach the edge of my understanding.
there’s no database and i built over a few days, so it’s just a single player way to figure out how much you really don’t know
after some meditation, i opted to do something simpler. if i was going to delay the the write consistency anyway, it’s just easier for the user to just download a lagging html file. this definitely depends on the use case, but i avoid a lot of this wasm js complexity by just having the browser download a static eventually updated html file
now i have a few favorites that i always rewatch: - hunter x hunter; the greed island arc was my favorite - the irregular at magic high school: magicians are ranked in the school by their compute power and speed, but the protagonist basically has orders of magnitude of more RAM than everybody else
i’m trying to create a better platform for programmers to prepare for interviews. right now the thesis is to practice talking and coding/drawing at the same time.
