Politicians deserve to be evaluated for their body of work and history which includes statements and actions which may cause one to either like or dislike them.
That's the comic narrative tone, which is the writer's prerogative to invoke. The question is does the narrative tone match the cognitive effect the author is attempting to elicit in the audience. For me the answer is "yes" even though I also like hearing about why Erlang was the key to whatsapp becoming a unicorn or why PG loves Lisp.
I know someone who raised over 50M to improve technical presales. If anyone has ever worked in this context they'll know it's inefficient. First product: a chrome extension that does time tracking. The question is will this succeed because of the money raised, the domain knowledge of the founders, or the quality of the product? Or some combination of the above.
Anyone have a glossary or index for newbs? Like a shortcut to reading the symbolic notation? I have some expository knowledge to sets (ie. sets are denoted by capital letters). And some of the symbols (ie. the vertical pipe means given or 'where' and indicates a predicate assumption of sorts). Anyone have the cheat code for laypeople and undergrads?
Chapter One. Diplomacy, a game that will make enemies out of friends. Kind of like Twilight Struggle or Among Us, or any of the other games with similar elements: imperfect information, bluffing, perfidy.
Agreed, but there's more to it I think. The primary design goal of the system is don't accidentally start a fire or electrocute yourself. The other effect however is the inverse, a mechanism by which the power company can come up with the right distribution of transformers to get the power to your home. If you have not been wired by an electrician to handle that much electricity, your block may not be sufficiently wired and fused to deliver that much. Because presumably the electrician checks such things before putting buildings on the grid.
My local repeater has become overrun with political conversations of the right wing racist variety. Too bad because I used to really enjoy ham as a hobby.
How do you know there isn't a russian doll scenario of sock puppets all the way down, and some other hedge fund isn't going to profit in a few months from all of this on a trade we never heard about? After all, the hedge fund industry as a whole does better, not worse, when there is lots of churn, even when that churn means places with names like Melvin every now and then go under. I admit this scenario is not likely, but still, the should statements can be misleading, and I don't recommend them.
I have not read either Harris or Krauss's book, but yes. 100% this. If people want to learn about philosophy I suggest they create a reading list of leading analytic philosophers and just read the source text. Straw Man Hume is not as good as the real thing, trust me. Hume will not teach you anything about meditation, but he will teach you better methods for thinking.
Agreed its hyperbolic. Some might be terrified. Depending on how the narrative shifts the dominant cognitive effect could go from terror to amazement or admiration. If so we might see second order effects like submission (if it shifts to admiration) or awe (if it moves toward amazement). I imagine its a good opportunity for a reboot for populist leaders of previous movements (tea party and occupy). But they will have to struggle for the same mindshare.
They should be sent to pasture at month seven, destined to live out the natural lifespan of a cow and die a rather unremarkable and dignified death of old age, having grazed upon the fields and enriched its soil with their manure. They can also be used for humane harvesting of methane. They should, of course, be spayed and neutered as well, and children can pay to pet their cute noses and dress them up in funny costumes during holiday season. This suggestion is not the advice of some militant vegan (on the contrary, I am but a lowly flexitarian, who believes that most animal products are destined for the wastebin of history), nay I am but a hopeful wandering utilitarian, who happened to alight upon this most recurrent and delectable of controversies.
Ah, interesting misread (this is why I love forums like this). What I was saying was you seem to be reflecting on your childhood and the resentments thereof (a somewhat universal exercise). But your reply was to OP (an adult who thinks he or she can get their kid hooked on programming). However, your reply was a projection of your own resentment of your childhood. Therein lies the irony.
The irony of this statement is that only someone with strong memories of his or her parents projecting their interests and him or her and later resenting the effects thereof would project a fear like this on total strangers on the internet.
Let me put on my cognitive neuroscience hat. It's because the market for children's books is parents. And parents want a sentimental cognitive effect when reading to their kids (the article mentions 'romanticization' which in cognitive terms is sentimental feelings). I don't know many parents who have sentimental feelings for their upbringings in the suburbs, mainly because by the time they learned what the concept of the 'suburb' is, they were probably entering high school, which is to say, they were entering miniature delayed adulthood, while having to navigate a completely artificial political sphere (high school). That being said I'm sure its a fine story world and captain underpants has certainly done a great job with it.
The lack of rules while opening up the world of complexity is what makes go interesting. Since chess involves 'functional pieces' I feel it may be doomed from the start. The two games may be scratching entirely different itches I'm afraid.
Disappointed! Thought we were going to talk about the new riddle of induction's grue and bleen only for smells. Like what if something smells like garbage before time t and delicious food after time t.
Nicotine itself is highly addictive. How else would one explain the business model of JUUL and the other ecig companies and all the anecdotes of users who never smoked before they started vaping? Vaping is nicotine only with some supposedly safe fillers that also might cause popcorn lung.
